Her brows scrunched in concentration like she was trying to think of something or remember something. She stumbled and Thomas held on to her.
“Maggie? What’s wrong?” He asked, his expression filled with worry.
“It’s ok, I’m fine. I just felt a little woozy, it’s just like there’s something preventing me from remembering what I should but I’ll try. ”
“Have a seat.” Thomas said as he led her to the chair.
“I see something that looks like a symbol but I don’t really know how to describe it. I can kind of remember a chant of sorts, and the same woman who I think is my mother telling me to never forget it.” She said as she sat down, then closed her eyes.
“No desprecies el poder de los ocho.
Uno abajo ahora quedan siete
Antes que salga la luna llena
La noche más oscura donde se proyecta la sombra
Encontrado end el dia más oscura de la noche
Tesoros escondidos pero solo buscar lo que enquestras
O perecer donde quiera que estés” She opened her eyes.
“What does it mean?” Keith frowned, it was Vance that replied.
“Do not despise the power of eight
One down now seven are left
Before the fullest moon rises
The darkest night where a shadow is cast
On the darkest day of the night
Hidden treasures but only seek what you find
Or perish wherever you stand ”
“Just great.” Carson groaned. “More lines that don’t make any sense.”
“I thought fourteen were to go on a quest, now seven and eight?” Raymond asked.
“Everyone, just calm down and think.” Margaret said.
“Thomas, you’re the Alpha of the full moon pack. You should have an idea what the fullest moon part of the prophecy is talking about.”
“Well, it’s a rare event, almost a myth. Something like that hasn’t been seen in centuries, it’s supposedly the brightest moon of any. But, according to the elders of the pack, there will be one tomorrow. I don’t even know how they know that, but they insist that it’s tradition to celebrate so there’s going to be a feast tomorrow to commemorate the event.”
“At least it’s something to go on.”
“Now we just have to find where a shadow is cast on the darkest day of the night, easy peasy.” Carson said sarcastically.
“Hayden, you’re the Alpha of the dark moon pack, any ideas on the darkness part of the prophecy?” Raymond asked and he sighed.
“Well, there’s a saying that just before the brightest day comes the darkest night. So if this is supposedly the brightest moon, then the darkest should be right before it rises.” He replied.
“So whatever it is were supposed to look for will be found by then but where?”
“According to the prophecy, it’s where a shadow is cast.”
“Shadows can be cast anywhere. And I might not be the smartest wolf, but I’m pretty sure shadows can’t be cast when it’s pitch black and that’s how it’s going to be on the darkest night like the prophecy says.” Jerald said and Carson sighed.
“All these riddles are going to give me a massive headache. The prophecy just couldn’t have been plain and straight forward, could it? Like, meet at the full moon pack, walk 5 kilometres in this direction then turn right, walk in that direction for like an hour and then you’re going to see a big x. You know what they say, x marks the spot, dig right there about 10 feet down and bingo! Treasure found. Congratulations!”
“I would have been suspicious if it was that easy. “Thomas said.
“Well you might like puzzles and riddles, but easy is less complicated. In this case, even if we manage to understand what the prophecy says, we don’t even know what we’re looking for. Right now we’re still contemplating it’s location, but is it a stone? a tree? a bird? maybe a person? We have no idea about that.” Carson said and Thomas sighed.
“I don’t think we’ll be more productive tonight. So I think it’s better we all call it a day and sleep on all this. I’m sure you all must be tired from your traveling, and I still have one or two things to sort out concerning the full moon festival tomorrow.”
“Sleep? Everytime I close my eyes to sleep, it feels like something is trying to kill me. I convinced myself I was just being paranoid, but after all this, I’m pretty sure I wasn’t and whatever or whoever this darkness is must be trying to get rid of me.”
“You felt that too? It was like my soul was being sucked out of me and for some reason I couldn’t connect with my wolf while I was sleeping. For the past week I haven’t slept at night, I work and then sleep during the day.”
“Okay, maybe don’t sleep. But we still need to rest, whatever we are supposed to find it supposed to be found tomorrow so we will look for more clues then. We have no idea what will find or what will find us, so we have to be ready to take on anything and we can’t do that while sleep deprived and exhausted.”
“I’ll make you all cups of herbal tea to help you sleep better.” Margaret said as she stood.
“I’m pretty sure it’s going to take more than a bunch of leaves thrown into a cup to do that.”
“It works trust me. I haven’t been having trouble sleeping and that’s because I take a cup of that tea before going to bed everyday. It’s not just a bunch of leaves thrown into a cup. “Thomas said and Carson sniggered.
“Even if it was dirt in a cup, as long as she made it, you will drink it with a smile so no offence, but I don’t trust your judgement.”
“Maggie is a healer. She knows what she’s doing.” Thomas said and they all looked at her reverently. Most packs had doctors that study to get to the position, but true healers were rare. They were gifted with extraordinary abilities to use nature to heal just about anything. There used to be a pack filled with them, but the magic pack was no longer in existence. She blushed at the look on their faces.
“It’s not that special.” She said.
“It’s more than special.” Thomas nuzzled her neck from behind. “You’re more than special.” He pulled her closer and she softened in his arms, the scent of her arousal clouding his senses. He saw the other’s nostrils flare and he knew they could scent her too. That drove his wolf crazy. Her sweet scent was for him alone. He growled lowly in warning and picked her up.
“I’ll send the tea to your rooms later.” She said as Thomas carried her out of the room and Carson chuckled.
“That’s if Tommy there will let you leave the bed.”
