“Welcome to my pack.” Thomas said as everyone got seated.
“Usually we only meet for celebrations and the like, but unfortunately that’s not the case right now. Our packs are in danger.”
“We’ve already established that fact. Now tell me who I need to pummel.” Keith growled.
“What kind of danger exactly?” Carson asked.
“In the old language ‘raeklh’, in plain language ‘darkness.’ Thomas replied.
“You’re kidding me right?” Raymond said.
“I seriously came all the way here only to hear that night time is what’s endangering our packs?”
“This darkness is not a thing, it’s a person. The first lines of the prophecy. The darkness awakens…”
“Find the oracle.” Keith interrupted.
“The council of Alphas…” Jerald continued.
“Must be held before the fullest moon.” Carson completed.
“I’ve been hearing that damn thing for days on end…” Vance started and Thomas interrupted.
“In your dreams? Yeah, so have I.”
“We can’t all be having the same dream.”
“It’s not just a dream, it’s a prophecy, and we have to find the rest of it first.”
“Fourteen must embark on a quest to search.” Raymond started and they all turned to him. “But they must first find themselves. The prophecy must start at the deepest darkest day of night. Where the brightest light’s glow reflects.”
“The other half of the prophecy.” Thomas gasped. “That’s why we had to meet.”
“Why is it just me that has the other half?” Raymond asked.
“Nothing about any of this really makes sense, so I don’t know.”
“That’s an understatement.” Carson said. “It’s all a load of bullshit. The deepest darkest day of night? It can’t be day and night at the same time. And where the brightest light’s glow reflects? How is that possible? If the said light is reflecting, then it can’t be the darkest.”
“We just have to think about it carefully.”
“I think a part of that prophecy is why you all had to meet here.” A voice said and they all turned to the entrance.
“Maggie, what are you doing here? We’re supposed to meet alone.” He said as he walked to her.
“I know Tommy, but something pushed me to come here, now I know why.”
“Tommy?” Carson said with a puzzled look.
Thomas put his hand around her and pulled her closer.
“Everyone, this is Margaret. She’s my mate.”
“Mate?” Raymond exclaimed.
“Since when do you have a mate?”
“Since almost a month now, after I found her.”
“And you didn’t bother to inform us and introduce her properly.”
“I’ve been… busy.” Thomas said and Carson laughed.
“We can smell how… busy you’ve been alright. She reeks of you.” He said and Margaret blushed.
“I’m guessing she’s from your pack. I doubt you’ve been to any others recently.” Vance said.
“Yes… I mean no… Maybe?” He replied.
“Maybe?” Jerald asked with a raised eyebrow.
“You said you found her, not met her. Where exactly did you find her? She doesn’t smell like a rogue.”
“She’s not a rogue wolf. I went swimming and found her floating in the river. I immediately knew she was my mate. When she woke up after being attended to by the pack doctors, she had no memory.”
“And it doesn’t seem suspicious to you at all?” Keith eyed her warily. “It could be a plot.”
“By who?” Thomas asked. “Except any of you here as planning to take over my pack, I doubt it.”
“How does she know about the prophecy?”
“I told her.”
“Of course you did.” Keith rolled his eyes.
“She’s my mate, I can’t not tell her.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “It’s hard to explain and you guys won’t understand anyway.”
“Alright then, since you’re here Maggie…”
“Margaret.” Thomas growled at Carson, eyes glowing, surprising everyone. He took a deep breath and his eyes returned back to normal.
“Sorry, my wolf doesn’t like it when another make calls her that.”
“Oookay. I’ll pretend that didn’t just happen. Margaret, you seem to know something, go ahead and tell us.”
“I don’t really know much…”
“Great, so you’re just here to waste our time.” Carson interrupted her and Thomas lifted him up and pinned him to the wall.
“Don’t diss her.” He hissed, his wolf glowing in his eyes, his body brimming with barely restrained ire.
“Geez, I’m sorry man. What’s with you?” He apologized. His own wolf didn’t rise to challenge Thomas because he understood Thomas’ newly mated status.
Thomas put him down and ran a hand through his hair. Margaret touched his arm and his features softened, almost like her touch made all his anger evaporate. He put his arms around her and breathed deeply, her scent taking away whatever ire her touch didn’t.
“The prophecy niggles at a memory in my head. It was all fuzzy till five minutes ago. A memory of me as a child and a woman, I think it’s my mother, telling me something.
“Well, what did she say?”
