Chapter 3 The Beginning III

“You call that a fight?” Hayden growled.
“Again.” He bellowed. Justin was already bleeding, each breath more laboured than the last because of the pain in his ribs.
“Get your ass up and fight.” Hayden growled again.
“I… I can’t.” Justin whimpered, just speaking those two words were agony, everything hurt.
“I thought you said you could handle it pup? You wanted to prove you were grown now, you don’t want that anymore?”
“I’m s. sorry I disobeyed Alpha. I won’t do it again.” He bowed his head in submission.
“Let him go.” He ordered and the warrior Justin fought with released him.
“The rest of you, 50 laps, now!”
“Alpha.” Beth said as she stepped forward. “I think you’ve drilled them enough for today. We can take it, we’re used to rigorous training. These pups are new to this. At this rate, if an attack comes, most would be too exhausted to fight.”
“Being Beta doesn’t mean you can disobey my orders Beth.” He knew she was right, but he was on edge lately. Something just wasn’t right and he needed his pack to be prepared for anything.
“Please Hayden.” She said to him through mindlink. It was silent for a few minutes and he could feel the undercurrents of hopeful anticipation coming from the rest of them.
“Fine.” He sighed. “We’ll continue training tomorrow. Everyone clean up and have breakfast.” As they cleared out, someone stepped forward.
“Alpha. There’s a letter for you.” She said as she stretched out the hand with the letter to him.
“It’s from the full moon pack.”
That sense of foreboding he had been having intensified as he saw the sigil of ten moons, and he opened the letter.
“Alpha Vance, the minute you get this letter, begin your journey to my pack immediately.” His mum read.
“Come alone, and be prepared for the worst.” Raymond read.
“Time is not on our side.” Jerald read.
“You must arrive before sundown the day after tomorrow.” Carson read.
“The fate of our packs depend on the decisions we make from now on.” Keith read.
“The Alphas of the other packs have also been informed and will also be in attendance.” Hayden read.
“The darkness awakens, find the Oracle, the council of Alphas must be held before the fullest moon.” They all read simultaneously.
SIGNED
Thomas Earl Simmons.
Full moon pack.
“The darkness awaken? What does that mean?” Beth asked.
“My dreams.” He whispered.
“What dreams?” She asked with a puzzled look 9n her face.
“I have to leave. Announce my departure to the rest of the pack, there is no time to do that myself. I will be back as soon as I can.” He said as he turned away from her.
“This can’t be good.” Vance said as he took the letter from his mother to scan it’s contents even though she had read it aloud.
“Go take a shower son. I’ll pack a small bag for you and breakfast.”
“The pack…”
“I’ll let your Beta know what happened and everyone will be duly informed.”
“Thanks mum. You still haven’t told me what you know.”
“There’s no time for that now. You’re needed as soon as possible.”
“We’ll talk when I get back then.”
“Okay son.” She pecked his cheek as they both stood. He walked to the bathroom and she walked to his room door.
Jerald mindlinked his Beta and his sister.
“I want to go with you.” She said as he explained where he was going to them.
“No, you’re needed here, and I was asked to come alone. I’ll inform you of the outcome of the meeting when I return.” He said and kissed her forehead.
“Okay, be safe.”
“I will.”
After returning to the pack and reading the letter that was sent to him, Carson immediately called for his Beta. When they were done talking, Megan cornered him, she was the Beta’s second daughter.
“Are you leaving again? You just got back.” She pouted.
“I have to go, something important came up.” He said as he tried to sidestep her, but she followed him.
“Okay, but how about a quickie before you leave, I’ve missed you.” She said as she moved close to him and tried to undress him.
“No Megan. I have to go.” He moved her aside and walked out the door. He knew sleeping with her had been a mistake, but she looked so much like Megara, he couldn’t help himself. Now, he had to deal with her advances. He shook his head to clear the thoughts of Megara, the only woman he had ever loved and the one to break his heart and ruin him for good from his mind.
FULL MOON PACK
“Welcome Alpha Hayden.”
“Has anyone else arrived?” He asked.
“Yes, Alpha Vance, Alpha Keith, Alpha Raymond and Alpha Jerald. Now you’re here, so it’s just Alpha Carson left.”
“And your Alpha?”
“Alpha Thomas is out, but he’ll be back soon. Preparations have already been made for you and everyone else. Follow me, and I’ll show you to your room. The meeting will begin when everyone is here.”
