Chapter 36

I sat patiently at the desk and tapped my fingers onto the metal table.
In front of me was a metal gate with small circles. An arm, and if not a hand, could only fit through the gap.
I blew out a breath as I leaned back. I smoothed out the paper on the desk in front of me and slowly grinned.
After several moments of waiting, the door on the opposite side of the gate began to open.
Putting on a neutral face, I watched as a confused Catelyn walked in with a police officer holding her by the arm. He pulled out a key from his back pocket and unlocked her handcuffs.
Catelyn immediately clasped her wrists and rubbed them in relief as the officer didn’t utter anything and left the room, closing the door.
At this point, Catelyn hadn’t seen me yet. She was facing her back towards me and her body was frozen.
I watched as she glanced around in confusion. Slowly turning around, I watched with a smug grin as her eyes slowly trailed towards me.
When she spotted me her eyes widened and her mouth fell open.
I couldn’t help but let out a loud laugh as I leaned forward and slapped my knee at her facial expression.
“No…” Catelyn trailed off as she looked at me in horror.
After a moment of staring, she spun around and latched on the door knob. She hysterically tried to open the locked door but to no avail.
“Open this door right now!” she yelled, “-get me out of here! Now!”
I couldn’t help but smile widely. The site was simply perfect. Catelyn, however, wasn’t.
I was used to seeing her with her make up perfectly applied. Her hair was always in perfect curls or waves. Her clothes were usually neat and elegant.
But her state right now wasn’t the Catelyn I knew. Her make up had been smeared off. She wore a prison play suit with dark stains. Her eyes had
dark bags underneath them and her face had faint scratches from our last encounter.
Her hair was no longer long. It was cropped short, just beneath her shoulders, tangled in knots.
All in all, she looked horrid. If this was her during the first few days, I wondered how she’d go on for the rest of her life in prison.
I didn’t even have to speak. Catelyn backed away from the door and from the gate, shaking her head.
“No,” she whispered to herself, “-I will not let her see me like this.”
She shaked her head furiously and slid to the floor, her hands tangled in her hair.
“No… God no,” she hissed quietly.
I sighed and pushed my chair back. Grabbing the paper on the desk, I stood up and walked around the table, walking up to the gate. Leaning my forehead onto the metal, I peered at Catelyn who sat knelled on the floor.
“But Catelyn,” I whined playfully, “-I really wanted you to see this,” I pouted as I pulled the paper up to my chest and held it with both hands. I glanced down at it and smiled.
“Do you see that?” I smiled, “-remember that place you worked at?”
“Well,” I smirked, “-It was called Williams Industries. But now, look,” my smirk widened as I pointed at a certain part on the sheet.
“It’s now Peterson Industries,” I said in a voice of fake shock. I watched as Catelyn slowly stood up and took a step closer to see the sheet. She looked at it in horror and didn’t make a sound.
“It’s now mine,” I empathized and let out a laugh.
“Mine!”
Catelyn’s lips started to tremble. She blinked furiously as her eyes teared and I tilted my head with a frown.
“Catelyn, don’t be like that,” I said and she clenched her jaw to hide her quivering lips.
“I…” she croaked and then cleared her throat as she gave me a menacing look.
“I,” she breathed, “-hate,” she gave me a sweet smile, “-you.”
I tried to keep a straight face. She was trying her best to remain strong. But she was breaking inside.
After a moment I clapped my hands together and bursted out in laughter.
I was feeling slightly insane, but at this point, I didn’t care.
“Sweetie!” I drawled out, “-I hate you too!” I laughed and Catelyn’s fake smiled vanished.
She looked at me with a strange look. She slowly began to shake her head.
“You…” Catelyn trailed off in horror, “-you really are insane,” she whispered.
I tilted my head again and glanced at the ground as I smiled gently.
Before I could proceed with my fun, the door on Catelyn’s side opened and the same officer from before stepped in with the handcuffs dangling from his fingers.
“Times up,” he muttered in a bored tone.
I glanced at him and back at Catelyn in amusement as she shuffled away from me and ran to the officer.
“Get me out of here,” she gritted. The officer seemed surprised at Catelyn’s eagerness to get back in a cell.
Placing the cuffs back onto her wrists, the officer glanced at me and I sent him a nod. He knew what my nod meant.
It meant bring Marcus in.
I didn’t bother sitting back down at the desk. I simply stood near the metal gate that separated me from the other side.
It didn’t take the officer long to bring Marcus. I could hear them on the other side of the door, Marcus demanding who wished to see him.
I watched as the door was re opened. Marcus calmly walked in and watched as the officer closed the door.
Just like Catelyn, Marcus rubbed his wrists and hissed as he saw the redness the digging of the metal cuffs caused.
I watched in silence as Marcus slowly turned around.
His eyes immediately found mine and his expression didn’t change one bit.
I watched as he slowly walked up to the gate. He placed his hands on the metal fencing and tilted his head as he stood several centimeters away from me.
“My my,” he whispered, “-Have you missed me already?” He asked in a cocky tone and I slowly smirked, tilting my head, copying his actions.
“Dearly,” I agreed and stared into his eyes as I lifted up the sheet.
I slapped it onto the metallic fencing that separated us and didn’t dare glance away from his cold eyes.
“I wanted to show you this,” I whispered and watched as his eyes slowly trailed down to the sheet.
He tried remaining cool. However I noticed the clenching in his jaw. The way he squeezed his eyes shut and suddenly flung them open.
He breathed roughly out from his nose, and stared at me with narrowed eyes.
“You stole my company?” He yelled out and slammed the wiring.
The thin metal shook from the force and I couldn’t help but grin.
“You mean my company?” I asked and watched as Marcus hissed at me.
“You little bitch,” he spat, “-that company is mine! Just wait till I get out I promise you an eternity-”
“-but Marcus,” I cut in with a calm voice.
“You aren’t getting out. You’re in here for life,” I whispered and Marcus shook his head in denial.
“No. I will speak to my lawyer and hire a new one I’ll… I’ll-” Marcus tried to reason and I laughed.
“Its over,” I said with a sadistic smile and Marcus clutched onto the metal as he stared at me with a clenched jaw as he breathed roughly.
He began shaking. He didn’t bother to stop shaking in anger as he slammed his fists again.
“You did this!” He screamed, “-You ruined me!”
I smiled in complete happiness.
“Yes, yes I did,” I replied and Marcus eyed my smile in complete fury.
What I didn’t expect him to do, was to squeeze his arms through the holes of the metal fencing, and reach out for me.
Before I could realise what he was doing and move back, Marcus grabbed my shoulders and slammed me towards him, the metal circles digging into my cheek as his hands wrapped around my neck.
The side of my face was squashed and I cringed as my hands clasped his ones around my neck.
“I will kill you!” He screamed and his spit landed on my cheek.
“Why?” he screamed again, “-Why!”
Suddenly I became furious myself. I tried my best to face forwards as I grabbed his arms and pulled him closer to my side so his arms would stretch out further, and I could face him properly.
I held his hands and pushed away the pressure on my neck as he tried to get a better grip.
“Why?” I shouted back, “-you killed my parents!”
“You shot him! You killed them! You ruined my life Marcus!” I screamed in frustration as Marcus sneered at me, a very unattractive look passing over his face.
“And I did so in pleasure,” he whispered trying to get on my nerves.
Before he could successfully choke me, Marcus was harshly ripped away from me.
The officer looked at us in horror as I clutched my throat.
Marcus stumbled to the ground and the officer grabbed him by the scruff of his neck, dragging him up.
“You shouldn’t have done that,” he scowled at Marcus as he began dragging him out of the room.
However Marcus ignored him and stared at me.
“How does it feel to know I killed your parents?” Marcus grinned and I felt my heart shatter.
However I simply smirked at Marcus.
“How does it feel to know I have your company?” I said in amusement.
“Your wealth? Your status? Your life?” I went on and Marcus’ grin vanished as he looked at me in anger, resisting against the officer.
“You can’t be happy. I know it,” he hissed and I shrugged with a smile as the officer opened the door, holding Marcus’ arm.
“You’re right,” I smiled widely, “-but hey!” I shouted with a little laugh, “-at least I’m not the one rotting in prison!” I said in a light tone and a small giggle.
It certainly pissed Marcus off. He cussed at me under his breath and gave me a deadly look as he tried to escape the officers grip.
However I sent Marcus one last grin and a happy wave as he was successfully dragged out with the door then slammed closed.
I stared at the now closed door on the other side. It was once again silent. The smile on my face slowly stared to disappear as I glanced towards the ground. I allowed myself a few moments.
Before the silence could completely settle, the tone of a new message sounded from my pocket.
I pulled out my phone and glanced at the screen to read Alexander’s name.
I stared at the screen for a few seconds before glancing up at the door Marcus left from.
“You’re wrong,” I whispered to myself.
“I can be happy.”
