I tried my best to stay still. But truth be told, it wasn’t that hard.
My body automatically froze. However, I tried my best to kiss back and look willing.
It felt wrong. All of this was simply wrong.
I slowly pulled away and plastered on a small smile as I looked away with a bat of my eyelashes, trying to make it appear as if I was affected by the kiss.
“Oh Marcus,” I sighed and Marcus gave me a grin as he tightened his hold on my waist.
“You should go home. Rest and perhaps get your cheek taken care of,” he said and I frowned.
“But there’s work that has to be done,” I insisted. However I truly wouldn’t mind leaving.
“No. Go rest. There’s a big party coming up and I need your pretty little face,” Marcus smiled and I tilted my head.
A party?
“Oh,” I said in curiosity, “-and what party might this be?” I asked and Marcus’ grin widened.
“Its more like a celebration,” he explained, “-or well, an anniversary. Williams industries four years in making, to be more accurate.”
I looked away in thought when he said that. It was amazing how it had been already four years since he and the rest murdered my parents.
“Oh really? That sounds quite lovely,” I said and then inched a little closer.
“When exactly is this celebration?” I asked.
“Even better. We’ve decided to have it on New Years. A double celebration,” Marcus smiled and I gave him one of mine in return.
However I was slightly startled by how quick the year had come to an end. However because the year was coming to an end, it didn’t mean the revenge was.
“I’ll be there. I should get going now. You’ve got some things to sort out,” I drawled out as I glanced around his now, destroyed office.
Marcus also glanced around and hissed in anger, suddenly remembering Mr Sanders refusal.
“Right,” he grunted.
With that, I turned around to leave. I was anxious to go and find Alexander and Quinton, to tell them of Marcus’ reaction.
Making my way out of the office and out of the building, I covered the small cut on my cheek by untying my hair.
When I found my car, I opened the door and slid in. However, before I could start the car, my phone vibrated uncontrollably in my handbag, that was left on the passengers seat.
Unzipping the nude coloured handbag, I pulled out my phone and I was greeted by an unknown number.
After a few seconds of uncertainty, I finally picked up and placed it on my ear.
“Yes?” I said and heard heavy breathing on the other line.
“Hello? Victoria? Its me, Kevin,” a man said and I frowned.
“You know…” he trailed off, “-the one who wanted to kill you,” he chuckled and I grimaced.
“What a lovely memory,” I said with a tight smile, even if he couldn’t see me, “-How did you get my number?” I said cutting to the chase.
Kevin noticed and sighed on the other side of the line.
“Catelyn had to give me something to track you down with,” Kevin said and I leaned back in my seat, getting comfortable.
“Right.”
“Anyway,” Kevin said in a hurry, “-that’s not the reason I called. I found something. And I took it,” Kevin said and I raised an eyebrow.
“Go on,” I encouraged, anxious to hear what he had to say.
“Its from Catelyn’s house. I did some snooping and I found a tape,” Kevin slowly explained and I leaned forward in my seat.
“And? Whats on it?” I asked in a hurry and Kevin chuckled on the other side of the line.
“A confession, really. The idiot and these two men took a video-drunk,” Kevin explained and paused again. I was getting irritated that he was making me wait.
“Yes? And?’
“And,” Kevin drawled out, “-you can see it for yourself. When can we meet?” Kevin asked and I immediately started my car.
“Right now. We can meet right now. My house. I’m sure Catelyn also gave you my address?” I added distastefully and I could practically hear Kevin nod his head.
“She sure did.”
I didn’t bother saying a farewell as I hung up. I began to drive towards my house and I didn’t hesitate to go a little over the speed limit.
Pulling out my headphones from the glove box, I trapped my phone between my legs, plugging it in, I then placing a bud in my left ear.
Speed dialing Alexanders number, I waited patiently for him to pick up as I turned into my street.
“Victoria,” Alexander said. I didn’t like the way he said it. Now that he knew my real name was Samantha he hesitated to call my by my fake identity.
“Ah, hey,” I said feeling a little awkward which was a little ironic considering I was always confident. But who could blame me? Alexander and I’s last meeting didn’t exactly end on a great note.
“Hello?” Alexander said when I took awhile answering.
“Are you busy?” I asked, “-I need you to come to my house right now. I think we might have something on Marcus and the rest,” I explained with a pause.
“-of course if you’re not busy,” I added, turning into my apartment and stopping to park my car.
“I am busy,” Alexander mumbled as I heard papers being shuffled around, “-but I could always make time for you Victoria. I’ll grab Quinton and we’ll be there right away,” Alexander stated and I couldn’t help but smile to myself.
“See you soon,” I mumbled and hung up.
Opening my door, I got out and grabbed my hand bag. Pulling out the keys, I walked towards the apartments door and unlocked it.
Walking in, I sighed as I took of my heeled boots and tossed them over to the side entrance.
Walking into the wide living room, I threw my handbag onto the sofa, and then rushed over to the big round mirror that hung over a table meant for frames, against the wall.
I put my dark blonde hair to the side, and examined the cut. I pressed a finger to it and it was safe to say it stung.
With a sigh, I made my way to the kitchen and walked towards the cabinet. Bending down, I pulled open the last draw and pulled out a mini first aid kit, and placed it on the table.
Just then, a series of knocks were echoed throughout the room and I leaned my head out from the kitchen.
“Its open!” I called out and went back to mixing through the first aid box.
I heard the door creak open and heavy footsteps.
“Victoria?” Kevin’s confused voice said.
“In here,” I said and Kevin appeared in the doorway.
I opened up a bottle of hand sanitiser, and squeezed a few drops onto my fingers, before rubbing it on to the cut so it wouldn’t get infected.
It was a small cut but It sure as hell stung allot. The bleeding had stopped so it was safe to call it a scratch.
“What happened?” Kevin asked with furrowed eyebrows as he put his hand into his jackets pocket and pulled out a little tape.
“Oh nothing,” I shrugged, “-just a little scratch.”
I pulled out a small, circle shaped band aid and peeled it open before slowly placing it onto the cheek.
“If you say so,” Kevin mumbled as he crossed his arms and lent onto the doorways frame. I quickly closed the first aid box and placed it back into the bottom draw, before leaning forward and grabbing the tape.
“Follow me,” I said with an excited smile as I rushed back into the living room. Luckily, I indeed did have a tape player. I positioned the tape into the player and opened the TV. However I didn’t push the tape in just yet.
Kevin noticed and helped himself to a seat.
“What are you waiting for?” he asked and I smiled.
“Friends.”
I didn’t have to wait long. Because a second later, the door was flung open and in stepped Quinton with Alexander following closely behind.
“Ah the one and only Victoria! What do you have for us today?” Quinton mused as he walked in the living room.
His eyes immediately caught onto Kevin and he frowned.
“And who is this?” Quinton asked as Alexander gave Kevin a nod. He then took of his blazer and loosened his tie, taking a seat on the cream coloured sofa.
“Quinton, meet Kevin. The one who so kindly lent me a tape we are about to watch,” I said with a smile and Quinton shook Kevin’s hand.
“Doesn’t that sound exciting,” Quinton said and also took a seat.
Kevin gave both men a small smile. However then stood up and gave me an apologetic smile.
“Victoria I hope this tape benefits you in someway. But I have to go. The kids are alone at home,” he said with a little frown and my eyes widened.
“No of course! Here, I’ll walk you out,” I smiled and Kevin returned it as he began walking towards the door.
Alexander and Quinton patiently waited as I quickly rushed towards the cabinet under the TV and pulled out my cheque booklet. Opening it up, I used the pen attached to it to write out the cheque. Ripping the slip out, I placed the booklet back and rushed back to Kevin who was preparing to leave.
I didn’t hesitate to write out five hundred thousand dollars. Nor to put my signature at the bottom.
“Kevin,” I said before he walked out of the door.
“Yes?” he said as he paused mid-way from closing the door.
“Here,” I smiled and handed him the cheque, “-you never did get paid for finding me and talking me to Catelyn, remember?” I chuckled and Kevin’s eyes widened as he looked in the amount of money on the cheque.
“Victoria…” he trailed off, “-thank you, but no thank you. I didn’t bring the tape in exchange for money. Just to help,” he frowned and I rolled my eyes.
“I know. And I’m not giving this money for your help. Just to help you. You need the money to take care of your kids. Remember?” I smiled and Kevin’s look softened.
“I don’t know what they did to you,” Kevin whispered, “-But you, Samantha, your real identity Catelyn told me about- you’re a good person,” Kevin said with a sad smile and I gave him a tight smile.
After Kevin left, I gave myself a few seconds at the door.
I then walked back into the living room with a wide smile.
“Well? What are we waiting for?” I beamed.
“It’s all ready,” Quinton said, his hand on the play button. However before he could press it, Alexander stood up and walked over to me.
“What the hell happened?” he frowned as he moved the hair away from my cheek.
I gave him an even wider smile.
“Marcus. When he got the call from Mr Sanders about the calculator he absolutely flipped it!” I exclaimed and Quinton smirked.
However Alexander still frowned.
“Flipped it? At what? You?” he said clenching his jaw and I rolled my eyes.
“No,” I said gruffly, “-I was near him when he got the call. He threw everything around and It was a complete mess.”
“Anyways,” I quickly said before Alexander could continue, “-Lets watch this already.”
Taking a seat, I leaned back and prepared to watch, as Quinton pressed play.
