Chapter 24

Book:Sweet Revenge Published:2024-5-28

I took in a sharp breath, as I adverted gaze away from Alexanders curious and frowning ones. I wasn’t sure if eyes could frown, but Alexander sure as hell made it look possible.
I hadn’t even realised Catelyn used my real name. But could you blame me? Both I was severely used to hearing.
“Can we not talk,” I glanced around, “-here?” I said in an uncomfortable tone and I glanced at Catelyns unconscious body.
Alexander stared at me for a few seconds. He then looked at Catelyn, clenching his jaw before looking back at me.
“Fine.”
We both started making our way outside and I couldn’t help but grimace. Both at the idea of trying to explain this to Alexander and because of the now filthy clothes that stuck to my body with dirt.
Alexander opened his mouth to speak but I bet him to it, trying to stall the conversation we now had to have.
“Right. We’ll talk tomorrow. We came with separate cars,” I shrugged and didn’t bother to think over what I had just said.
“Oh?” Alexander questioned peering around, “-you came here willingly? Got in your own car and drove here?” he said in a serious tone and that’s when I closed my eyes for a second.
Kevin had driven me here. My car was still at the bar.
“Exactly. I didn’t. I have to catch a taxi to the bar perhaps,” I dismissed and began walking the opposite way, however Alexander gripped my arm and pulled me back before I could get far.
“I’ll drive you back to the bar,” Alexander said as he pulled me close to his body, mouth near my ear.
I didn’t reply and simply stared at the ground with a clenched jaw, making my teeth hurt.
“Please,” he whispered, “-I insist.”
I blew out a breath and looked at him with a grin.
“Sure. That would be great,” I shrugged like I wasn’t nervous about the upcoming conversation, even if I wholeheartedly was.
Our feet crunched on the graveled surface as we walked towards Alexanders car. It wasn’t his nice shiny red one, but a neat, black BMW.
This man had money coming out of all his jacket pockets, I thought distastefully.
Though, Its not like I could talk.
Alexander, being the gentlemen he sometimes is, opened the car door for me and watched me solemnly as I carefully slid in.
The door was shut behind me and Alexander walked around the front of his car to get in.
I rubbed my palms together and deeply inhaled the masculine scent in the car.
“So,” Alexander huffed as he closed his door and started up the car, “-you have something to tell me?” he hinted and didn’t bother to look over at me and simply started to drive, eyes fixated onto the road.
He tried to make it look casual, as if he weren’t all that curious. But he most certainly was.
“I do?” I said in fake confusion and Alexander visibly sped up as the trees blurred past us.
“Victoria,” he firmly stated and I rolled my eyes.
“Fine,” I grumbled and stared out my window, “-Catelyn called me Samantha because,” I paused and glanced at him.
“-well, because, that’s my name,” I simply shrugged and watched Alexander furrow his eyebrows as he frowned.
I sighed and looked ahead, “-well my real name.”
“What?” he asked as he slowed down and turned to look at me after quickly glancing at the road.
“You’re real name? What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Alexander stressed as he continued to look at me, meanwhile driving with short glances.
“You have ears,” I mumbled, “-Victoria isn’t exactly… my real name. I’m using a fake identity. Ever since I moved here.” I slowly explained and Alexander once again sped up. He clenched his jaw and his fists turned white from the tight grip on the steering wheel.
“Why?” he simply asked.
“Isn’t it obvious?” I asked, “-I came here for revenge. Revenge towards people from my past. Of course I have to change my name and appear as someone…” I trailed off.
“Someone you’re not?” Alexander inquired in a tense voice and I looked away.
“Exactly.”
“So what?” Alexander said, “-you.. this person I know is it not you?” he said in an angered tone and I sighed.
“See, that’s the thing. With you, I can be myself,” I quietly mumbled.
I wasn’t the type to open up. At least not now I wasn’t.
Alexander stayed quiet for a few seconds. He seemed to be thinking as he glanced at me.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked in the same, angry tone and I looked at him with narrow eyes.
“Pardon me! It’s not everyday people know about my past!” I said loudly in a not so calm voice. I quoted his words from earlier, where I had told him I knew about Rebecca.
“You remembered,” he mumbled referring to how I repeated his words.
“Of course I remember,” I grunted and crossed my arms.
“But you still should’ve told me Victoria,” he paused, “-or wait. Was is Samantha?” he said sarcastically as he turned the car to pull up into the bar- parking.
Once he stopped the car, I turned to face him with an angry look.
“What the hell Alexander! Why are you getting so damn mad?” I said in a frustrated tone, “-who the bloody hell cares,” I yelled and Alexander roughly looked at me.
“Who the hell cares? I care!” he shouted and I clenched my jaw.
“Why? So what? So what if I used a fake damn identity and name. It means nothing,” I said with my hands in the air, gesturing to absolutely nothing.
“It does mean something!” Alexander continued to shout, “-I’d like to know the name of the woman I like, possibly love! You know, their real name,” he grumbled and glared at the windshield ahead of us.
“Well guess what? Too bad. Because-”
Suddenly I stopped.
I repeated his words in my head.
Did he…
Did he say love?
I stared at him and Alexander gave me an annoyed look.
“What?” he deadpanned and I frowned.
“Did you say love?” I asked steadily. Alexander clenched his jaw as he realised what he had said. Closing his eyes briefly, he opened them again to stare back at me.
My heart was pounding.
There was no way he could love me. I was a broken, cold hearted person. Thirsty for revenge. I hadn’t been loved since my parents died.
“I…” he trailed off.
I sighed. There wasn’t room for love in this game of revenge. Not with Marcus, Max and Catelyn in it.
However I came to realise just how much I truly liked Alexander.
Alexander opened his mouth to speak with honest eyes,
However before he could speak, his phone flashed and began vibrating on top of the glove box.
Alexander sighed as he glanced down. So did I.
Quinton’s name flashed across the screen and Alexander picked it up, answered it, and put it on speaker.
“What?” he said bluntly and Quinton laughed on the other side of the line.
“It’s done!” Quinton’s voice came out from the receiver and both Alexander and I frowned.
“Whats done?” Alexander asked and I looked at the screen in curiosity.
“The order,” he said,”-Mr Sanders ordered a copy of Marcus’ product to test it out for his own company,” Quinton continued and I glanced up at Alexander who looked at the screen.
“And?”
“And?,” Quinton repeated, “-I replaced the order with a calculator,” Quinton chuckled.
“You did?” I said in disbelief.
“Victoria?” Quinton asked and I hummed, “-I sure did. When Mr Sander sees this he will definitely call off the alliance between both business’.” Quinton said in a proud tone and I smiled in glee.
“Well done Quinton,” Alexander praised.
Taking the phone of speaker, Alexander held it to his ear as he exchanged a few words. Once he hung up I opened my door and hopped out, Alexander closely following behind.
“I should go now,” I stated and Alexander nodded.
“Right.” He grunted.
“I’ll see you soon.”
With that, I rushed towards my car where I had apparently dropped my purse from earlier.
Picking it up and pulling out my car keys, I got in and started my car but didn’t begin to drive just yet.
My heart was going at a fast rate and I stared at myself in the review mirror.
“What the hell Samantha,” I whispered softly and felt a little vulnerable.
It was the first time in a while I decided to refer to myself as Samantha.
After a second of the small feeling of vulnerability, I straightened up and flashed myself a fake smile in the review mirror.
“Whatever.”
