Chapter 20

Book:Sweet Revenge Published:2024-5-28

I pressed the lock button on my car keys twice, just to be safe. Men, women and teenagers of all ages hung around the area and I couldn’t help but feel a little weary.
I paused outside of my vehicle and glanced down at myself. It was just a bar, however I didn’t plan on walking in there looking like I had just come out of a professional meeting.
Even if I did.
I unbuttoned the first three buttons of my red blouse and rolled my sleeves up. Pushing all my hair to the side, I held my purse tightly and made my way towards the entrance.
It looked as cliché as it could get. Neon lights and littered cigarette butts. The J of the Jo’s sign hung loosely on a single nail.
Now what was a rich man doing in such a poorly presented place?
Walking inside I was confronted by loud chatter and laughs. I glanced around the bar and it only took me a second to spot Alexander and Quinton. Both looked odd against the crowd as they wore expensive looking clothing, meanwhile the others didn’t look as charming.
Their backs were faced towards me as I made my way to them. Quinton sat on the left and Alexander on the right. As I neared I made a split decision and went right.
“Hello boys,” I said as I pulled out a stool beside Alexander and put my purse onto the bars marble bench.
“How’d it go?” was all Alexander said. I couldn’t help but sarcastically think what an incredibly polite greeting that was.
I shrugged and motioned the bartender towards me.
“Max didn’t get the position if that’s what you mean. But guess who did,” I stated casually.
“Don’t you dare say Marcus,” Quinton chimed in as he picked his glass up.
“No,” I replied, “-I did.”
“What can I get you?” The bartender asked before Quinton could fit in a word.
“What they’re having,” I shrugged and the bartender smiled with a nod and left.
“Well. Looks like it turned out even better. Head executive? That’s a done deal Victoria, ” Alexander grinned and I couldn’t help but smile.
Quinton smiled and nodded his head.
“It is isn’t it. Say Victoria, I’m happy for you. Besides, what is this product? Surely this is an opportunity to sabotage Marcus?” Quinton desperately added.
I furrowed my eyebrows then shrugged.
“An electronical device. I’d say a calculators more useful than the product itself,” I said distastefully and Alexanders gave me a sideways glance as he grinned.
“Oh? A calculators more useful? I wonder what Mr Sanders reaction would be if he were to receive a simple calculator,” Alexander chuckled as he sipped onto his drink.
I smiled at that and glanced up. Quinton was already looking at me and then glanced down to Alexander.
“Alexander, Victoria, the two of you won’t mind if I leave, right? I’ve got a stack of papers to go through before tomorrow morning,” Quinton stressed out and Alexander sighed.
“Go ahead. I expect you at work by seven,” Alexander warned, his dark eyes on Quinton.
Quinton simply grinned and nodded.
“Of course boss.”
Sending me a wink, Quinton finished his drink and in seconds left the bar. However before he did, he sent me a suggestive look and motioned towards Alexander.
Rolling my eyes, I rested my head into my palms and glanced at Alexander.
Alexander sat up straight in his seat and turned to face me.
“How are you feeling?” He asked and I shrugged. These days I really felt soft and gentle around him.
“Delighted,” I smiled and so did Alexander.
“Was ruining Max’s position as satisfying as you thought it’ll be?” he asked and smoothed his messy and disheveled hair to the side.
“Even better,” I mumbled and smiled at the bartender who placed my drink in front of me.
Revenge did feel good. If I were to think about Revenge three years ago I wouldn’t have agreed with my thoughts now. I used to find revenge as something selfish and impulsive.
However after my only family got murdered and the killers got away with it, I couldn’t sit around doing nothing. After all it wasn’t just for me. It was for everyone who was victimised by the trio.
“You know,” Alexander suddenly said, “-I admire you.”
My head snapped to his and I gave him a confused look. That was uncalled for.
“Me? Admire?” I repeated in an amused tone.
“Is that so hard to believe?” Alexander inquired and stared me in the eyes, “-how many people go through this much effort for justice?”
I let out a snort at that and sipped onto my drink. Everything I was doing was purely for Revenge. Sure, it could be on behalf of others… but justice?
“All those drinks must’ve gone straight to your head,” I mumbled and downed my drink.
Alexander didn’t say anything for a few moments. Glancing down, he looked back at me.
“You never did say what happened,” he said in a low tone.
Immediantly I straightened up. I knew what he was referring to.
I was comfortable around him but was I comfortable enough to tell him what happened? What they did?
The answer is yes. I was.
It was the least I could do. Considering I found out who Rebecca was and what had happened to her in his drunken state. It was fair to say I had taken advantage of him.
I sighed and leaned back. I glanced around to see the bar had quietened as people began to leave.
“They killed them,” I simply said. I added a small chuckle. It wasn’t a humorous one. It was a desperate one.
“Who?” Alexander asked, “-who killed them?”
“My parents,” I whispered. However all of a sudden my temper raised. I clenched my fists and stared at the bars bench.
“Marcus and his gang killed them. Not only that, he robbed them,” I continued as my voice began to rise as well.
“How do you think they’re filthy rich? Who’s money is it? I’ll tell you who’s! The Peterson’s,” I hissed in anger.
I ran my hands through my dark blonde hair and gripped the edges.
Soft hands grabbed mine and placed them in my lap. Alexander held my hands and looked at me with calm eyes as he spoke with a calm and soothing voice.
“Hey,” he said softly, dark eyes on mine, “-you have me now.”
I didn’t listen to him. My solid gaze remained on the marble bench.
“Hey,” Alexander said more firmly as he placed his thumb on my chin and made my head face his.
“Look at me. You have me now. You are not doing this alone,” Alexander stated as he looked at me with honest eyes. And I believed him.
I looked into his dark eyes for a few more seconds before I glanced down at his soft pink lips. Without wasting another second, I pushed forward and smashed my lips onto his.
Maybe I wouldn’t feel so lonely now. My family may be gone but I have someone willing to help.
I have Alexander.
