Brack!
The sound of the door sounded loud in Elfara’s room. Jess who found the girl had gone home, immediately followed without thinking about the fatigue that hit her daughter. She had a question that needed to be answered immediately. However, it turns out that the girl locked the door.
“Elfara!”
“Elfara!”
“Come out for a moment, we have to talk!” A few moments passed, the door opened. Elfara came out of the room with her work clothes still attached to her body.
“What’s up?” Elfara said a little curtly.
“Every day, you are getting bolder to me, Elfara!”
“Mommy, I don’t want to argue. Just say what Mommy wants to say!” Jess stared intently at her daughter who was now folding her arms while leaning against the wall.
“Since when did you work for Joana, huh? Tell me, what are you working with her for!” Elfara pulled the corners of her lips, then chuckled. The woman with the rank of ‘mother’ was showing her selfishness.
“Is there something wrong? Mommy should be happy because I finally got a job after trying so hard to find one.”
“Why with Joana, Elfara?” Jessy raised the intonation of her voice, along with that, the Bulldog’s howl sounded like it was angry. Yeah, maybe Jessy hasn’t fed him or Dev hasn’t given him a bonus.
“Like it or not, Mommy has to accept it! Mommy, who made me lose my job. Because of Mommy, I had to travel all over town and be treated inhumanely by people out there. Didn’t Mommy think how I felt? Never mind acting to protect me, don’t even ask how I’m doing. In fact, Mommy knows my troubles. Oh, yes, I forgot! To Mommy, I’m just a stepdaughter.” Elfara said, until a flash of fire burned her sclera. To be honest, Elfara hated to say this. She was so fed up with this situation. However, Jess’ attitude was intolerable.
“Don’t shout in front of me, Elfara! You really are a damn child!” Elfara froze, a piece of her heart suddenly fell. Her mother’s words were not as loud as her voice, but the clear meaning managed to break the deepest recesses of Elfara’s heart.
“Damn child you say, Mommy?” The girl followed her mother’s turning gaze. Really, what she heard, was almost unbelievable. However, what can she do? Showing flashbacks say otherwise. Elfara laughed briefly, then she sobbed.
“Yeah, I’m damn! That’s why Mommy never loved me since I was little. I even always get scolded for little things that I don’t know, it’s wrong or not. You act like, you hate me so much, Mommy. You forbade me to have friends, you forbade me to eat good food, you took everything from me, Mommy! Why do you only love Dev, Mommy? Am I not your child too? I was born into this world, not of my own volition. If I had known, Mommy never wanted me, then I would have spoken to God to just get rid of me!”
The pain that had been gnawing at the heart for many years finally broke right then and there. Instead of getting empathy, Elfara actually felt the heat from the imprint of her mother’s hand left on her wet cheek. Elfara looked at her mother in pain. She squealed for the teardrops that were starting to fall from her mother’s eyes. Her tangled brain couldn’t judge, what sense was driving those tears out of the cruel woman beside her. Elfara hadn’t even seen that in years.
“Thank you, Mommy’s slap proved that I was never wanted. You only have a son named Dev Sasaka!”
“Enough!” The cold war between them was paused. Unexpectedly, Dev’s angry face shuts their mouths. Elfara glanced at her little brother and Jess just kept her expression flat in any direction. The hollow of the twenty-year-old man’s eyes was like a demon pierced by a thousand arrows. His piercing eyes gave an extraordinary vibrating effect to the two women, who were suddenly mute in the room that should have been a pleasant gathering place. However, the horror that Dev showed could not shrink Elfara’s tears.
“Is your brain turned upside down so you can’t tell the difference between black and white? You have eyes, but you are blind!” The perfect rebuke accompanies Dev’s steps in the circle of turbulence.
For a moment, no one dared to answer. However, Elfara’s determination assures that the wounds that have accumulated since childhood are the perfect strength to fight Dev’s ruthless aura that radiates today.
“Yeah, my brain has turned upside down! I realized, our intake is different. Mommy makes a delicious menu for you and supports you with vitamins. Mommy takes very good care of you. Not like me, who is like a caterpillar. My food is only leaves, leaves, leaves!” Dev’s veins tighten. His jaw hardened. The two women knew that Dev was holding back his roaring rage.
“Is it a sin to be jealous of you, Dev? What would you do if you were me?” Dev kisses the darkness behind his eyelids. The sound of cracks in the walls suddenly startled all senses of hearing. The two women gasped. Especially when Dev’s eyes change color. Elfara might not have noticed, but Jess’ brain was starting to wonder. Since when did Dev’s brown irises turn purple? Is Dev wearing an eyepiece? Jess immediately put her silly question aside at a crucial moment like this. It is no more important than Dev’s emotional power which can crack a wall in one hit. The current Dev is like a devil’s spell condensing.
“I told you, don’t dream to be me! I never wanted to be in your position either!” Dev raises his fist in the air, several layers of walls fall on the floor. Dev doesn’t care about the mess.
“I already guessed! I’m pretty self-conscious about that. I won’t be able to shift your high position, Dev.” Elfara’s voice softened.
“You guys are the same! You know? I am very tired. Oh, I forgot! I’m just an unwanted child. You won’t care about me anything!” Elfara ended the conversation by re-entering the room.
Dev pierces his mother’s gaze which somehow, he doesn’t want to be involved in anything any more right now. The young man left, it seemed that it took him a lot of time to let his emotions out. The unstable young man only took five minutes to change the room as his heart was. Dev roars between the strewn pieces of the interior.
“Hey! Brainless human! You think you’re the one suffering the most, Elfara? If you knew, that woman’s treatment of me was much worse.” Dev said with rock-hard jaws. Red stains ran down every crevice of his fingers. The glass shards trapped in his hand seemed to have found soft prey to sharpen themselves.
Slowly, Dev opened his hand. There was a sense of shock as his eyeballs rolled through the cracks of the bloodstained glass shards. Not because of the split layer of his skin, but the color of his eyeballs that changed. After gathering his lost half of his sanity, Dev’s eyes darted around.
“This is impossible!” Dev denies the mess that happened in his room. One hand touched the foot of the broken bed. Iron as solid as this is very unlikely to be broken by humans. Their bones would be crushed if anyone did. However, the bed wasn’t the only item he could destroy so easily. The entire room suffered the same fate. And Dev doesn’t feel any pain. Still lost in the big question, Jessy’s scream suddenly flowed in her ear canal.
“Mommy!”
