Olivia
I reached Blake’s office and saw Carol was already there. I paid for the taxi and got out. She was leaning her back on the glass wall. I could see her already wearing her smile filled with victory. Oh, she didn’t know anything. She didn’t know what’s coming.
I kept reminding myself that I did the right thing.
I love you, Olivia.
His words kept repeating in my mind over and over. Countless time while on my way here.
He loved me. He would protect me. He would be my monster.
Blake made me strong. He did everything he could to ensure my safety so this time…I would return it.
As Carol sensed my presence, she looked at me where I walked closer. Stopping only a foot away from her. Her hands were inside her trench coat pocket. She pushed her body from the wall. “I assume you come here because you’ve made the right choice,” she stated cockily. Oh, how I wanted to rip that tongue of hers.
“Before I answer you, I want to ask you something.” She kept looking at me. “Do you truly love Blake?”
“Yes, I do. He is the right choice to ensure my future. He is the chosen one for me. He could give me anything I wanted. My father always taught me that. To choose someone that could match me. Blake is the perfect one and I wanted him since day one,” she explained.
And that…concluded everything I needed to know. And I would happily give her my answer.
I love you.
Blake…
You’ve made your way into my cold and dead heart and make me alive again.
I did this only for you.
I will never let you go anymore.
His words that night echoed in my mind. Three times. Like it was trying to give me strength. Blake was my strength. My everything. Even from afar, wherever he was, he was supporting me.
No more running.
I looked up straight to Carol, with my head held up high. “I won’t give Blake away to you.”
Carol lost her smile. She was not expecting me to say that. I knew she thought I would let him go. But I won’t give that satisfaction to her.
“I love him, Carol. From the bottom of my heart. You think you love him, but you’re wrong. You only see him as the object to ensure your future, just like you said. You wanted him because of his money, his status, what he currently has. Once he lost all that, you might leave him.”
She scoffed. “Everyone is the same. People need money so their future will be secured. You’re so fucking naïve for thinking money is not everything.”
“It isn’t for me. And to Blake as well. We only need each other. To comfort. To support. To love.” That’s right. Blake said he would abandon everything he had just to be with me. He was serious. He was never joking with his statement.
What he said, he would do it.
What he silently thought, he would make it true.
“I love him. I can’t see him in despair. I will do anything to make him happy. Giving him away to you will not make him happy. Me leaving him will not make him happy. Please, Carol? Leave him alone. Leave us alone.”
Carol’s expression changed. She was angry. Furious.
“You pushed me, girl,” she said and pulled out her phone. “I’m going to do it.”
“Carol.”
“I’m serious! Don’t fucking think that I was joking when I said that I will spread the news that you’re fucking your own uncle!” She was right. She was determined. She would call the media to let them know that the most powerful businessman in this city was sleeping with his family. Just one call from her, everything would change. But…
“Go ahead, Carol.” Again, she was not expecting this reaction from me. “Go ahead. Make the call. This is what makes you satisfied, right? Well then, go ahead. Call them. But you should remember something,” I paused as she was losing her smile. “You will not just destroy me; you will destroy Blake as well. Do you truly want that? Seeing him in despair, is that what you want?”
“I’ll be happy if you’re gone and have him for myself! You’re just a brat, Olivia. I’m a fucking adult! I fit him better. The media would be happy knowing he’s marrying a daughter from his partner.”
Was she always this deluded? She only wanted attention. She never wanted Blake fully.
“I’m warning you. I’m going to do it,” she threatened again.
“Then, fucking do it!” I shouted.
“That’s right, fucking do it, Miss Rivers.” My eyes were opened wide. No way.
Carol’s expression changed again. She was shocked. Frightened. I turned back slowly and saw Blake stood a few feet away from me, wearing his white shirts he previously wore in the office.
He walked closer to me. His eyes never left mine. “So, this is why you’re acting weird at home,” he said and walked closer and stopped beside me.
“You two staying together?” Carol asked.
“She’s still living with her parents, but she will be soon moving back to my house. To where she belongs.”
“Do you know what are you doing? It’s sick of you for having an affair with your niece. How do you think the world will take it?”
“I agree. It was so sick of me for falling in love with my niece. You’re right, the world will not accept it but I’m ready to take the consequences. I’ve been waiting for almost eighteen years for me to have the woman of my life.”
“What? I don’t understand.”
“You might not understand my feeling, Miss Rivers. I felt an instant connection with Olivia since the first time I saw her. When she’s still a baby.”
What?
“It was sick of me. I thought I was crazy. It took years for me to understand this feeling I had for her. I denied it at first and I had to accept the consequences; I lost her. So, I won’t be repeating the same mistake again. I love her and I will not let her go. So, Miss Rivers?” he paused as Blake narrowed his eyes, silently threatening her. “Go ahead and call the fucking media. Let them know Blake Morgan is having an affair with his niece.”
I was so touched by his words.
He was so ready to accept any consequences. He was risking himself. Me. His business. Everything he had.
I turned to see Carol and I could see she was hesitating. She got tears in her eyes. “I was trying to save you,” she said.
“You didn’t try to save me; you’re saving yourself. You’re securing your future. You have this twisted imagination of me giving you the baby you wanted and filled your life with money and jewelry. You never witnessed another powerful man you wanted to conquer beside me. Did you know that your father did the same thing?”
“What?” she asked as I looked up to Blake. Shocked as well.
“Your mother was way richer than your father and I’ve witnessed that Dean married her because of her money. When she died, he got all the money and try to make you just like her.”
“You’re wrong!” she screamed. Her tone indicated pain, sadness, slightly anger. “Daddy loved her! I love you, Blake!”
“You don’t love me. I will never love a woman like you,” Blake coldly said. “Have you ever heard my reputation before, Miss Rivers? I used to play around. Sleeping with lots of women and tossed them away after I was done with them. You will be the same as those whores. You’re just lucky enough because you met me when I’ve known Olivia.”
“Blake, just—”He raised his hand, stopping me.
“Get the fuck out of my sight and don’t you fucking dare show yourself in front of me and her.”
I saw Carol and tears dropped to her face. “Blake, I’m begging you. I love you!”
Blake clucked his tongue. He was pissed. He was about to snap. And he did. “I’ve told you but since you’re so fucking deaf. You. Don’t. Love. Me. Go find someone to satisfy your pocket and your pussy.”
And with his cruel words, Carol ran away while crying. He did not just say that. Blake went out of line.
“Carol!” I was about to chase but Blake grabbed my elbow. I turned angrily to him. “How could you say that to her?!”
“Why did you see her alone?” he asked, ignoring my question.
“I can handle this alone and that was very cruel of you for saying that to her. She might be trying to destroy us, but she’s still a woman and you should have some respect for her!” His eyes were slightly opened wide as I used this chance to pulled my hand away from him. Immediately chasing Carol.
True, Carol might be spoiled. A selfish woman. But she still needed to be treated with respect not by saying that.
I didn’t chase her too far once I found her near the crosswalk. “Carol,” I called her as softly as I could.
She turned to me immediately, looking upset. “Everything is your fault,” she coldly said. Her face was already in a mess. Her mascara made her face terribly in a mess, especially the eyes. She was crying badly. “It’s your fault! It’s your fucking fault!”
“Carol, calm down.” I slightly raised my hands, trying to keep her calm. I didn’t want her to do anything stupid by…walking back to the road.
“Blake is mine! I will not let anything or anyone bother me! He’s supposed to be mine. I can dream my future with him and you, Olivia…are not included.” Okay, she has started to had an emotional breakdown.
“Carol, please. It’s dangerous there.” It’s almost midnight and people were mostly sleeping but it didn’t stop some of them who were still fully awake and did the illegal street racing to roam around the street. We never knew when some cars would show up.
“I won’t let this,” she murmured. “What I wanted; I will get. My father always made sure of that.” She turned up her eyes to me, looking at me evilly. Her eyes were nothing like before. There was nothing sweet from them anymore. They were dark and only filled with hatred.
She suddenly grabbed my hands, pulling me to her as I hissed in pain. Her fake nails pierced my skin. “Blake is mine. Go to hell, Olivia.” And she pushed me to the road where suddenly I saw a bright light coming from a car beside me and that’s when I saw it.
The future I had with Blake gone in an instant.
And his voice calling my name desperately was the last thing I heard before the darkness consumed me completely.
“OLIVIAAAAA!!!!”
