Slade Donovan POV
It’s was a battlefield. The moon was blood red and the vampires just like a thousand years ago were nearing victory in war with the humans. Blood splattered on the ground as humans who refused to submit were butchered like animals. My father alongside Luciana led the army of vampires against the humans.
I looked around me as the humans were screaming and running away from the Vampire’s reach. That’s was when I saw her. Gabriella was leading her army of humans and she was heading towards my father. She had a wooden stake in her hand, her black hair was long and it reached her back. Her face was covered in blood, not her blood. She was radiating with power and when I looked closer, I could see two different people beside her. They all look alike. I knew the second person was Bianca but I had no idea who the third person was.
“Let’s my people go!” Gabriella shouted as she and my father came face to face. “We’ve tried enough and we are tired of your cruelty!”Gabriella spoke in three voices. ” you and your forefathers had dealt with the humans since the beginning. It’s our turn now and we are breaking free. Humans! Kill them all.” She ordered and I could hear the hatred in her voice.
“This wasn’t the Gabriella I knew,” I thought.
With the wooden stake in her hand, she strikes every vampire down with no mercy. The way she stuck the vampires with the stake was out of pure anger. “Gabriella, Stop!” I heard myself shout.
Wait, how come?
I was watching the fight but I was on the battlefield. Did I have a twin?
Gabriella stopped as I have commanded and walked closer to me. We were in the midst of the war but it’s felt like we were alone. “You failed to protect my people!” She shouted at the Slade who was fighting the war. “I am going to kill all your people until the humans rule.”
Slade burst into laughter and raised his hands. They were bloody and his claws were out. “What makes you think that’s I’ll change the rule of my people because of you. “I could never say that Gabriella.
Where was I?
” let’s end this war.” Gabriella challenged and raised the stake.
“Yes, my love. Let’s end this war.” My other self roared and raised his claws to strike Gabriella. I closed my eyes as I couldn’t bear to witness how it’s was going to end. When I opened my eyes, I was somewhere else.
“You did it, son,” I heard my Father’s powerful voice.
What’s did I do?
My eyes almost popped out when I saw Gabriella’s corpse on the ground. Her beautiful face had turned pale and her lips were as white as a snow. I looked closely at her and saw the claw marks on her chest. My other self kicked her body and burst into laughter. “I am sorry my love but the vampire world comes first.” He laughed.
I rushed towards him and tried to strike him but my hand went through.
What was that? My hand just went through my other self’s body. Was this a vision or what? I would never kill Gabriella. I rather die than Kill her and stare at her body on the ground, I couldn’t help but scream out loud.
I screamed into the real world and jumped out of my bed.
“It’s not real Slade!” I slapped my face as I couldn’t believe what I had seen. I had killed Gabriella with my hand. If it’s was a vision then it means it was bound to happen. As I thought of what to do, I felt an excruciating pain in my head. “Ha,” I winced as I touched my head. The pain transmit throughout my body and I fell to the ground as my own body began to shake. “What’s is happening to me?” I felt my bone-cracking and I heard voices whispering into my ears.
“The first” That word resounded my ears but I had no idea what it’s meant. Bone continued to crack and I continue to scream out in pain.
My door burst open and through my hazy vision, I saw Teale and Kyle rushing towards me. ”
“How do you know this was going to happen?” I heard Kyle asking Teale.
“My father already told me about this day,” Teale responded.
“What do we do?”
“Let’s take him to the healing river,” Teale said. He lifted me and carried me on his back. With his supervision, we arrived at the healing river within a few seconds. “He should shift once the moon is full.” Teale pointed to the sky and when I tried to look up, I screamed out in pain as another wave of pain hit me. This time it’s was my stomach. It’s felt as if my stomach was been cut in half. It’s was excruciating and with every second, I thought I was going to die.
The breeze blew harshly on my skin as the only thing I had on were my briefs. “Quick, let’s take him into the river.” Teale and Kyle carried me and threw me into the water. I sink and closed my eyes. I felt my bone-cracking and when I opened my eyes, my hands and legs were now paws. I swam to the surface of the water and let out a loud howl. I had transformed into a werewolf. The first-ever wolf in a thousand years.
“Yeah, it’s good to be back.” I heard a voice in my head.
What’s was happening? “I must say that it’s frustrating to share a body with a vampire.” The voice scoffed.
I ignored the voice and came out of the water. I growled when I saw Teale and Kyle moving closer to me. I snarled at them and they moved backward. “Calm down wolfie,” Teale moved closer to me and tried to touch me.
“Wolfie?” How dare he called me that? It’s was hard to communicate while in the wolf form. I wanted to scream at Teale for calling me Wolfie but I couldn’t say anything but growl.
“He needs to change back before anyone sees him.” Kyle looked around for anyone lurking in the shadows.
“Slade!”Teale whispered. He touched my black fur and pat my back. ” listen to me. You have to change back before someone found out about you. Picture yourself as a vampire Slade!”
How was I supposed to picture myself as human? If this was how being a werewolf works then I was never changing again. Ever.
I sat down and closed my eyes. I tried to picture myself as a vampire but I couldn’t see myself as a vampire. It’s was as if someone was blocking me from changing back to my vampire form.
“Go to mate,” the voice in my head whispered again.
I growled at Teale as if it was the only means of communicating with him. Teale seems to understand my language as he placed a hand on his Chin as if he was thinking. Well clearly, he was. “I know how you’ll change. You need to see Gabriella right. Blink twice if I am right.”
I blinked twice and Teale nodded in response. “We have to find a way to get him into the castle.”
Kyle pointed to me and pointed to the castle. “How are we going to do that? The whole castle is surrounded by guards Teale.”
“That’s why you’ll distract them.” Teale pushed Kyle towards the castle. “Go on, act like a prince.” He beckoned for him to move.
“Fine,” I heard Kyle groan as he moved towards the castle.
“Over to you Wolfie.” Again, he called me a wolfie. I growled at him but he only laughed and pointed to the castle. “Walk-behind and walk only where I walk.” He ordered.
Teale walked towards the castle and stopped when he saw Kyle talking to the guards. From the trees where we hid, we saw Kyle leading the guards away and that’s was when Teale continued walking. We entered the castle safely but we weren’t safe yet. If the vampires found out that their crown prince was half-wolf, all hell would break loose. Teale looked around when we got to the lobby and when he didn’t see anyone. He beckoned for me to come. We took the east wing of the castle where Gabriella was and luckily for us, there was no one in the hallway.
Gabriella’s door made a creaking sound as we entered quietly but with all our quietness, Gabriella was up and she seemed shocked when she saw us.
“How are you not sleeping right now?” Teale lets out a frustrated groan.
“I had a bad dream but wait a sec, what is that?” Gabriella pointed to me.
I looked at her and she gasped when she saw my eyes. “Is…. i.. s that Slade?” She stuttered.
“Yeah,” Teale answered.
“Oh my God! His eyes are full golden and they are beautiful.” She commented and moved closer to me. “May I touch you?”
“Let’s mate touch us!” The voice in my head whispered again. Seriously, what’s was that voice?
Gabriella ran her hand on my fur and laughed when she saw that’s I was enjoying it. “Wow! You are so big!” Gabriella measured our height and my wolf was as tall as she was. “How does he change back? I need to talk to Slade.”
“That’s the problem. He can’t change back into himself. You need to help him. ”
“How?”
Gabriella touch my head and closed her eyes as directed by Teale while I also did the same. “Picture yourself as a vampire!” He ordered.
I growled and tried to do it but I couldn’t. Gabriella’s held on tightly to my hand and I felt a sensation through my body. I opened my eyes to look at her and that’s was when I noticed that I had changed back Into myself. I was stark naked and Gabriella could faint if she saw me in that position. “Pass me the blanket,” I whispered to Teale.
“Oh!” He covered his mouth as he tried not to laugh.
“Do it,” I said through gritted teeth.
“Is everything alright?” Gabriella questioned.
“No, no, no,” I covered my mouth as I realized that I had said that. Teale threw the blanket to me and I quickly wrapped it around my body.
“Slade, is that you?” Gabriella’s eyes fluttered as she looked at me. Her obsidian eyes made me remember what happened in the vision I had.
I had killed her in that vision and I could never do that but some visions are right. Once I had a vision about meeting Bianca and it did happen. I stood up from the ground and rushed out of Gabriella’s room with a blanket wrapped around my body. I can’t bring myself to be around her after what I did in my vision. “Slade!” I heard tale rush out after me. “What’s going on Teale?”
I heaved a sigh and beckoned for him to follow me. When I reached my room and after putting on proper clothes, I told Teale everything I saw in my vision. “So that’s it?” What’s does he mean by that?”
“It’s was in the vision Slade. It’s wasn’t real. You’ll never hurt Gabriella.”
“You don’t know that ”
‘You have a wolf remember? Like I’ve heard from my father, wolves protect their mates with their lives. You would never hurt your mate.”
“What if I do,” I tried to argue but Teale refused to back down.
“You and Gabriella shared a bond. A strong one and I know you will never hurt her.”
I wished I could believe that but I was going to make sure that I keep Gabriella safe if I had to lay down my life to keep her safe, I’ll do it in a heartbeat.
