Today’s check up was very tiring for me. I did all the laboratory work and it left me in a bad mood. I had to fake smiles when the medical staff was getting samples from me, especially the blood samples. After the blood extraction both my arms were so painful. Then I needed to fill the specimen bottle for my urinalysis. But for some reason I did not have the urgency to pee.
And what was even more irritating, was Bram. I drank at least three bottles of water before I filled the specimen bottle. And Bram was laughing at my situation. I was scowling when I got into the SUV and nobody even tried to talk to me. When we were getting out of the parking lot, Bram asked me what food I wanted for lunch. I told him I was craving dumplings.
So he instructed Jonas to drive us to a Chinese restaurant. And he told Chantal to pick up what we ordered. Bram and I decided to let Andi go because Maria and Jonas could assist Bram. When we got home I told Bram that I would sort my laboratory and ultrasound results in the master’s bedroom. I saw him frown but he did not say anything. I went straight to the elevator and did not wait for his answer.
Maybe these mood swings that I was experiencing were part of the pregnancy. I just wanted to lie down and sleep most of the time. I had also turned Bram down twice when he wanted us to have sex. The most challenging part of it was, Bram was recovering too, so I should always be the one on top. I did my research and I found three helpful positions. The first was me on top of Bram, which we already did. The second was side-by-side spooning, which I found very difficult for both of us. And the last position was sitting at the edge of the bed. Which was impossible, so I had no choice but to be on top.
I was grateful to Bram for being patient with my mood swings. The other night, I felt so hot that I lowered the temperature of our air conditioner and Bram had to wear two layers of clothes and cover himself with a thick blanket. And now, I had to make the sorting papers an excuse just to be alone in the master bedroom. I kicked my shoes then I laid down on our bed. I closed my eyes and forgot all about what I came here for.
“Madam, Sir Bram ordered me to wake you,” I heard Maria say as she rested her hand on my right shoulder.
I sat up slowly, “What time is it, Maria?” I asked as I adjusted my eyes to the brightness of the room.
“It’s 6:30pm, madam,” Maria answered me.
I was yawning when Maria and I walked in the kitchen and I saw Bram remove his headphones. He did not say anything but he was obviously watching my every move. Maria put some fettuccine pesto on my plate and I felt my whole disposition changed. I looked up at Maria and gave her a big smile.
“Thank you, Maria,” I told her and suddenly my appetite had gone from fifty percent to a hundred. I love pasta!
“You’re welcome, madam,” Maria said to me, “Sir Bram was the one who told me to cook this for dinner. He said that you love pasta.” I glanced at Bram and he was smirking at me. I scowled at him and started eating.
“Did you finish sorting your laboratory results?” Bram asked mockingly.
My scowl deepened, “Yes, I did.” Then I glared at him.
Bram laughed and said, “I followed you after fifteen minutes and you were already sleeping.”
My eyes widened but I hid it by drinking water, “Leave me alone,” I told him.
Bram giggled because he caught me, “I would never do that. You’re too cute to be left alone.”
I rolled my eyes at him and remembered something, “Oh I forgot my phone upstairs, Maria.”
“I will tell Chantal to go and get it, madam,” Maria said as she dialed her phone.
I continued eating and Bram spoke again, “How was your sleep?” he asked then he put some food into his mouth.
I swallowed the food in my mouth, “Really good,” I told Bram then I put pasta in my mouth again.
After we finished our dinner, Bram and I went to our room to get ready to sleep. I was brushing my hair on the bed when I noticed that Bram was watching me from the sofa-bed, “What?” I asked him.
“I sold the condo,” Bram told me without blinking.
I stopped brushing my hair and swallowed the lump in my throat, “Where is Aunt Calla now?”
“She moved back with mum,” Bram answered me while he closed his laptop, “At their parents house.”
“And her things?” I asked as I recalled all the furniture of Aunt Calla.
“She sold them,” Bram said to me. Then he started walking with his crutches towards his side of the bed.
I sighed and placed my brush on the nightstand, “I can’t believe her condo is gone.”
“First of all, it’s mine. And second, Aunt Calla would benefit from the process,” Bram stated as he fixed his legs under the blanket.
“She will get a portion of the payment?” I asked, surprised.
“Of course not,” Bram responded as he leaned on our head board.
“Then how can she benefit from it?” I asked as I went under the covers.
“Well, let’s put it this way,” Bram leaned on his right elbow and lowered his face to me, “This may sound dodgy, but I helped her destroy evidence.”
I looked up to the ceiling, “That’s a shame, I have a few vivid memories there.” Then I turned to Bram. His expression changed. We gazed at each other for a moment then I could not stop my yawn.
“What was your favorite memory?” Bram asked as he laid down and stared at the ceiling.
I paused for a moment and recalled my experiences in Aunt Calla’s condo a few months ago. I remembered that I went there after Bram and I made love for the first time. I could still remember how sore I was at that time. But I was not about to tell him that now, “That condo has one of the best sunrises that I have ever seen.” I told Bram instead.
I was about to turn to my right side when Bram spoke, “You want to know what was my favorite memory there?”
“What?” I asked. I turned to the left to face him.
“It was at the elevator,” Bram started to say. I was suddenly awake with what he was about to say, “I could never forget your face that day.” Then he winked at me.
I hit his right arm, “You’re so annoying!” I told Bram.
He held my left arm and kissed it, “I’m glad that I met you, Emma.”
I stared at him, “And may I ask why?”
He rested his cheek on my left arm and said, “You make me feel safe.”
