Chapter 57 Adjusting to changes

Sunday
I took a bath after I finished my breakfast. I decided to wear a knee-length floral dress with spaghetti straps and went down to Bram’s room. Bram was scowling when he turned to me. I glanced at Andi, he looked stressed and agitated. I took a deep breath and walked towards them.
“Do you need help on anything, Andi?” I asked Bram’s nurse. He was holding a syringe.
“Sir Bram does not want me to come near him, madam,” Andi responded nervously.
I glared at Bram and took the syringe from Andi, “I’ll take care of this. Did he give you a hard time during his bath?”
I kinked the line and pushed the plunger slowly and watched Bram grimaced. I narrowed my eyes at Bram and waited for him to complain. But he just endured the burning sensation quietly. I emptied the syringe and gave it to Andi. I flushed some fluid and regulated the IV again to what the doctor ordered. I turned to Andi and waited for his answer regarding Bram’s bath.
“Jonas helped me, Madam,” Andi answered while he disposed of the used syringe.
“Is there anything else that we need to do?” I asked and walked at the bottom of the bed to check Bram’s chart.
“Sir Bram’s next meds will be after dinner,” Andi told me.
“Good, you can go now, I’ll watch over him,” I told Andi and gave him a small smile.
“But…” Andi tried to protest.
“I need to talk to him,” I added. Andi nodded and went out.
I turned to Bram. His arms crossed onto his chest. I walked to the sofa-bed without a word and sat. I checked my phone for messages.
“What took you so long?” Bram asked me.
“I fell asleep Bram. Pregnant women do that a lot.” I stared at him and raised my eyebrows. I waited for his response.
“You could sleep here in my room,” Bram reasoned.
“And hear all of your whining?” I commented, “No thanks.”
His expression changed, “Connor called,” Bram said as he changed the subject.
“Should I get a baseball bat?” I asked Bram. This time I raised my left eyebrow. I put my phone to my left side and crossed my arms to my chest.
Bram looked alarmed, “What for?” His accent changed to British.
“To hit you and Connor in the head,” I answered Bram without blinking.
“No, no!” Bram raised his hands, “We don’t use violence as the last resort, remember?”
“Oh I think it’s needed to restart both of your brains,” I said then I crossed my legs.
“He’ll be here by 4pm,” Bram said again. Ignoring my statement. I stood up and walked towards the door.
“Wait, where are you going?” Bram asked.
I opened the door wide and turned back to Bram, “To find a baseball bat.” Then I closed the door with a bang.
By three in the afternoon the whole first floor was cool because they turned the air conditioning on. Jonas and Andi assisted Bram to walk using his crutches to the living room. Maria told us that Connor called and said that he just entered the expressway. I watched carefully as Bram sat on our white couch. When he was seated comfortably Jonas and Andi left us alone.
“Have you found a baseball bat?” Bram asked. He was suppressing his smile.
“Are you trying to annoy me?” I narrowed my eyes on him.
“No,” Bram answered. And acted like he was scared. I stood near him and checked his IV. Bram just stared at me.
“We might need to ask your doctor if this can be removed,” I said, as I checked his IV line for any kinks.
Bram took my hands and made me sit on his lap. Then he hugged me from the back. He rested his chin on my left shoulder and sighed, “Finally.”
I laughed mildly, “What was that for?”
“I’ve been waiting to hug you the whole day,” Bram answered me.
I leaned back to him and rested the back of my head on his right shoulder, “Why didn’t you say so?” I told him then I closed my eyes.
“Well, you scare me sometimes,” I heard Bram say.
I giggled and opened my eyes, “Husbands are only afraid of their wives when they do something wrong.”
I felt him shake his head, “I could be considered a victim here. I had no idea of other people’s plans?”
“I told you a baseball bat will help, like a reset,” I whispered to Bram’s right ear.
“I don’t get it,” Bram commented, “Why do we need a reset?”
“Do you remember the first Avengers movie? When Agent Barton got compromised, then Black Widow banged his head on a metal railing?” I explained while I rested my head back again to his right shoulder.
Bram locked his hands around my waist, “Did this happen when they were in the flying thing?”
“Yes,” I said as I stared at our main entrance.
“They have super powers. If you hit Connor and I with a baseball bat we’ll probably end up in a hospital,” Bram reasoned.
Then I laughed out loud, “I’m just messing with you, my love, I would never hurt anyone…physically,” I explained, “I don’t want to end up in jail.”
Bram kissed the left side of my neck, “I asked Jonas to remove the hospital bed. I want them to put back the original bed of the room.”
I lifted my head from Bram’s shoulder and asked, “Why?”
“So we can sleep together,” Bram answered me. Then he used his left hand to cup my right breast. I stood up slowly because I saw Maria was walking towards us.
“Sir Connor called. He just passed the main gate,” Maria said to us.
I straightened out my dress and fixed my loose hair to my back. Bram and I shared a meaningful glance. Then we watched Maria walk towards the entrance to greet Connor.
“What happened, man?” Connor asked when he got inside the house. He was standing by the center table facing Bram, “Last I remember we were on a yacht then next thing I know is.. you had an accident.”
I was standing at Bram’s right side. I crossed my arms to my chest because I was curious too. This would be the first time that I would hear what had caused Bram’s accident.
Bram glanced at me before he answered, “My mind was occupied and I lost my focus,” Bram briefly explained.
Connor switched glances between Bram and me. I glared at them both, “I will tell Maria to bring you both a snack.” I said then I headed to the kitchen. I knew they did not want me there!
“I broke my left tibia man,” I heard Bram say as I walked away from them.
“That’s the shin, right?” I heard Connor ask.
“Yes it’s the shin,” Bram answered mockingly, “Don’t tell me you didn’t know that?”
“Hey, I’m not the one who broke a bone, man,” I heard Connor say, “You’re dumber than me now.”
