Glass House, Laguna
I was putting my hair up in a towel when I heard my phone ring. I went out of the bathroom and checked the caller. I hit the green button when I saw it was Roland, “Where are you now?”
“I’m headed to Manila,” Roland said on the other line.
“Are you driving?” I asked as I sat on my dresser chair.
“Yes,” Roland answered me, “I’m taking Alicia to the airport.”
I ignored his statement, “When are you going to pick me up?” I asked instead.
“Maybe later,” Roland said, “After Alicia and I talked.”
I massaged my forehead, “Okay, just call me ahead of time, okay?”
“Yup, bye!” Roland said then he hung up.
I placed the phone on the dresser table and stared at it. I stood up and decided to wear a cotton dress. I combed my hair and laid down on the bed. My brother would probably forgive Alicia. I am so done with these people! I placed my phone on silent mode then put a blanket up to my chin. I closed my eyes and slept.
I panicked when I woke up in complete darkness. I hurriedly turned the bedside lamp on. I was rubbing my eyes while I reached for my phone. I had so many missed calls from Roland, Mama Credence and Bram. I was composing a message for Roland when Bram called again.
I pressed the green button and answered his call, “Hello?”
“Were you sleeping?” he asked, his voice clipped.
“Yes, why?” I asked him.
“I missed you,” I heard Bram say on the other line, “I want to go home so we can talk.”
“You should listen to your physician, Bram,” I told him.
“Are you not going to visit me?” Bram asked again.
“If you are allowed to go home tomorrow. I’ll wait for you here at home,” I answered Bram.
“I didn’t know that Connor invited her, Emma,” Bram suddenly explained.
“I don’t want to talk about this over the phone,” I commented, “Have you eaten dinner?” I changed the topic.
“I don’t have an appetite,” Bram answered.
“If you want to go home early then you should listen to your doctor, Bram.” I scolded him.
“I’m having trouble sleeping,” Bram told me.
“Pain meds will help. And discomfort is expected. You will get better, don’t worry,” I told Bram to calm him down.
“I want you,” Bram sounded like a five year old boy.
“Don’t be a baby. You’re a race car driver, you can handle this,” I commented with a smile.
“Please, Emma?” Bram pleaded.
“I need to go downstairs and eat, okay?” I reasoned with him, “I’ll talk to you later.”
The following day Maria woke me up and said that Mama Credence called. She ordered that we should all prepare for their arrival. And that they would arrive after lunch. I did not know that we had a spare room downstairs. When I went to see it, it was the same size as my previous room. And it had its own bathroom.
When they got home Bram looked pissed and tired. All of us worked quietly because of his mood. Jonas and Mama Credence’s driver supported Bram to his wheelchair. When he was seated, he called me and wanted me to walk beside him. I did what he asked while Jonas pushed his chair to the spare room.
Mama Credence was able to buy a medical electric bed for Bram. She also hired a nurse to take care of Bram. She said that the male nurse would be here tomorrow. Mama Credence preferred a male nurse so Bram would be comfortable.
“Emma can take care of me,” Bram commented while Mama Credence was still giving instructions to all of us.
“Emma is pregnant, Bram,” Mama Credence reminded him.
Bram and I glanced at each other then he kept quiet until Mama Credence went home. When dinner time came, Maria cooked the meal that the doctor ordered for Bram then I fed him. He should be capable of doing this by himself but he was just being a baby.
“I want to suck your breast, Emma,” Bram said while I removed the rolling food tray away from him.
My eyes widened and I turned to Maria who received the rolling tray. She acted like she did not hear anything but I bet she did. When Maria left I glared at Bram.
“I asked my doctor, he said I could have sex and it will depend on my pain tolerance,” Bram told me.
I rolled my eyes at him, “I will sleep upstairs so you can rest,” I told Bram. Then I checked his chart for orders.
“I did all of this for you, Emma,” Bram explained, “I want to be with you.”
I narrowed my eyes at Bram and went to his medical supply table, “And not just for sex, right?”
“Well…it’s part of it,” Bram said as he watched my every move.
“Does this antibiotic sting?” I asked Bram after I strategically injected half of the contents of the syringe.
“Aww…yes it does!” Bram yelled at me.
I emptied the syringe slowly and did an IV push to relieve Bram from the burning sensation of the antibiotic, “Don’t mess with your wife,” I told Bram then I smiled mischievously.
“My nurse will get here tomorrow,” Bram commented.
“Good for you!” I told him then I opened the door.
“Where are you going?” Bram asked, panicked.
“Upstairs,” I answered him. I opened the door wide. And he acted like he wanted to stand up.
“But Emma,” Bram raised his voice.
“I’ll be back,” I told him, then I closed the door.
I changed into my silk camisole and silk robe. I covered it with a printed robe then I went downstairs. I knocked before I opened the door. Bram was already watching F1 highlights. I removed the extra robe and placed it on the sofa-bed that was prepared for me. I brushed my teeth then I went out of the bathroom. I glanced at Bram’s direction and saw that he was watching me.
“Are you okay? Anything painful?” I asked him.
“I do feel something,” Bram swallowed.
I walked towards him and checked his IV fluid, “What is it?”
“I want to bone you,” Bram said with a straight face.
I giggled, “Was that supposed to be funny like a pun or are you being a horny idiot?” I asked him.
“I can be anything you want me to be, Emma,” Bram replied, smiling.
I laughed out loud, “Why did you choose that vulgar word? You think I would not understand?” I asked him.
“I know you’re smart, Emma,” Bram told me, “And yes, I’m horny.”
This made me laugh harder. I walked away from him and sat on my sofa-bed. I checked my phone. And it was nine in the evening. I glanced at Bram and he was still staring at me. I removed my silk robe and lowered the right side railings of his electric bed. I laid down sideways facing Bram, “If this bed breaks, you’re going to pay for it.”
“Now you really have to be on top this time,” Bram said, then he turned the TV off.
