Chapter 66: In the Shadow
Fred’s POV
In his office, he was looking out of his window. A stick of cigar in between his finger. He blew the smoke out and put the cigar in his ashtray.
‘Look after your cousin, Fred.’ His father’s words were still in his head. She was the first lady Fuentes in the bloodline. She was sheltered and overprotected by them she had been the apple of their eye.
Fred was the one who would walk after her where ever she goes. Her innocent era was enough, he knew that he need to unleash the evilness in her to survive the coming war.
Normal life didn’t exist in the world she was born. Until he saw Nick, the man that created a place in her heart. The man that was willing to save her from dirt. He knew that if he would give him a little glimpse of her past he would scratch for more.
He knew that his dear feeling for Fera would be enough to save Fera from that past. He knew how stubborn she was and when she decides, she rarely change it. He needed to break her firm stand.
He used Nick to gather all the evidence, little did they know, Fredrick didn’t know about that too but he knew she was hiding a huge piece of the puzzle. He triggered her more to speak up, it was a mystery who send that jar and how did Nick find it.
There was a part that wasn’t his but it helped him carve the outcome. It broke her, the problem left was how to make peace with Fera. She wasn’t dumb to notice him and to realize that it was him.
She would surely curse him to death and god knows what she could do.
He checked his watch and it was already midnight. He had prepared her thrown. For now, they only need to wait for her to wake up.
He was evil at all but it takes to be a demon to be a Fuentes.
“Mr. Fuentes,” Baldo suddenly entered his office.
“Yes,” he opened his wined and poured in his glass.
“Our people demand to see you. They are concerned about Ms. Fuentes’s situation.” He said but Fred only gave him a tight smile.
“She’s fine now and she’d be very well after a few days of rest.” He said but Baldo didn’t leave the room and stayed looking at him.
“Is there anything else you want to discuss?”
“Did you set this all up?” Asked him which made him chuckle.
“Some of it, Fera leave me with no choice but to pull her forcefully out of her fantasy.” He said and took a sip of his wine. Baldo was not surprised by it but he didn’t approve of it wholly.
“Don’t you think, you went too far?” She slowly shook his head and look up at him.
“You think so?” Baldo nodded and his eyes fell to the floor. “I truly didn’t plan to go this far but she was too hard. I only planned for her to be in jail for a day and expected her to tell the truth to get out but didn’t. I went there to ask her but refused to, I sent Nick, Lora, Nana Felly, Benjamin even you. What happened? Nothing so I hired a fake relative but didn’t expect Ben to be that sharp.” He sip his wine again and looked at Baldo.
“But you involved the media, if Ben failed to decode all of it, she’d be sentenced to the death penalty. It was parricide, not just murder. You fooled even the jury, and several lawyers. All of them were participating in the hearing without knowing all of it was your plan and they were playing one of your characters. I just thought that it was too risky, not everyone was fool enough to buy that, especially those who have seen Fera’s cell.” He chuckled when he remembered the cell he requested for Fera.
“What’s wrong with Fera’s cell?”
“A cell that has well ventilation, foamed bed, and a drawer for her clothes. Complete toiletries, who are you kidding?” He sip his wine again and smiled at him.
“Was that bad? I want her to b comfortable in jail, did I spoil her enough?”
“They will notice.” Fred nodded his head.
“I know, whatever.” Baldo left the room and he was left alone. He drank his wine and remembered Nana Felly’s death. He read the email again, his men relayed a message to him. Reymondo died this morning.
He typed on his phone ‘Leave the country now.’ He sent it to Mr. Hernandez. He wasn’t involved but he knew what was happening. He knew it was him from the very beginning but didn’t inform Nick about it.
Now he was returning the favor that he didn’t blow his plan. His grandson would surely be involved and Fera wouldn’t like it.
That man needed to grow still, he may prove his sincerity, but he didn’t deserve his cousin still. That was what Fred thinks about Nick. He opened the security camera he planted in her room and watched her sleep.
But he saw him crumpled up, hugging her knees while lying sideways, then he heard her sniffing. She was crying again. When will her tears end, she had been crying for ages.
No matter how he teach her how to be strong, she kept crying in her bed. That part which he could never understand.
“Someone was coming.” He heard Baldo say so he closed her computer and made sure that no one could touch it.
“I want to speak with them.” He replied and fixed his clothes.
After a few minutes, they arrived and Baldo opened the gate for them, he waited at the leaving of Fuentes’s Mansion.
“Brother!” He heard a man greet him from behind. He stood up and face him, his tattooed face hasn’t changed.
“Jeric.” It was his brother, his biological brother but came from a different womb. He was planted in some woman’s womb to keep his identity safe. The public knew that there were only two Fuentes that existed or left but Finrick or Jeric was a Fuentes too.
“Why do you call me, Fin? Don’t I deserve the F tradition name of our family?”
“I just thought you’re not comfortable with that, Fin.”
