Olivia
We stopped by the rest area because I wanted to pee and while waiting for me, Blake was buying some coffee. Along the way, I could see that Blake was tired as hell and it was better for him to take another coffee. He did say that he had coffee before we go but maybe it was not enough. I could see him trying his best to open his eyes on our way.
It had been three hours since we departed from Malibu and I thought to hold back to not to pee but it was useless. There was no way on earth that I would dirty Blake’s expensive leather seat.
After I was done, I headed to the car and I saw Blake was already there while drinking his cup of coffee. “Blake?” I called out to him and when he turned to me, he looked soberer than before.
“Done?” I gave him a nod and he drank the last of his coffee and threw it into the bin. We hopped back into the car, and Blake drove again.
Along the way, my eyes started to become heavy as I yawned. “You should sleep, Liv,” Blake suggested.
“I’m okay. It’s just another hour.”
“I know but you should just sleep and when we have arrived, I won’t wake you up and take you to the room. Besides, you will be sleeping in the end after we reached the hotel anyway and won’t go anywhere.” Well, he was right but at least I had to open my eyes to see the road.
“Why don’t we talk about something?”
Blake chuckled when he heard the question. “We have talked about your holiday in Malibu three hours ago.”
“Well, we could talk about something else.”
“What you would like to talk about it?”
I was thinking in my mind. Perhaps now was the best time. “Tell me how you met my mother.”
Blake paused a moment. “I thought I’ve told you.”
“You did but not all of them.”
“Really? Well then, where should I start?” Blake paused again like he was thinking about something in his head. “We met in college. We were in a different major; I was in a business major while Chloe was in law major. We met coincidentally because one of her classmates arranged a blind date. And that’s how I met your mother…and your father as well.”
I could tell that he was not interested to speak about my father. Like he found in uninterested at all.
“I wasn’t interested in the idea and neither your mother. I approached her and we talked a lot of stuff. That’s how we become friends. Your father joined himself in because he was rather disappointed with the date. Since then, we became close and we always did everything together.”
Just by looking at his face, Blake was really happy having them as his friends. Unfortunately, everything changed when my father impregnated my mother and he was nowhere to be seen right after.
“But you were happy.”
“You’re right. I was,” he said in the past tense. He was not happy anymore. He lost both of them. One of them died and the other one…was probably betrayed them.
“Do you think…that I’m ready now to listen to your reason? Why you were cold to me before and why you divorced my mother?”
“I have to say…about forty-five percent.” That was…still a relatively small percentage.
“Okay. Could you at least tell me if my father is still alive?”
“He is…somewhere.” Okay, at least I knew that he was still alive and there could be a possibility that I might meet him. “Do you want to meet him?”
“I…” I honestly didn’t know.
Did I want to meet him?
What if my father didn’t want to see me?
What would my reaction be?
“I don’t know. I already have a bad impression of him because he never visited my mother. Her grave was always empty without flowers. None from him even her own family. It’s always just us,” I replied. Honest to God, I probably had lost respect for them.
“Then, it might be the best if you don’t know about him,” Blake stated.
“I think you’re right. I have you anyway and it’s enough for me. You act more like a father to me than my real one. I really like you as my father, Blake.” Why I was so nervous when I was telling him this?
“Thanks, Liv. But…I’m not like that at all. Don’t forget what have I done to you before,” he reminded.
“Your kind acts surpassed your previous act on me. People do mistake every day, Blake. Even me.”
“You are too good, Olivia.”
“I’m trying to be good. That’s the least thing I could do for you. You adopted me even though I don’t know why you wanted to but I’m thankful to you. You were there while my relatives were looking at me like I was a piece of trash. You were always there to protect me. To make sure that I was well fed and taken care of. I couldn’t ask…for more from you.”
Blake was hard to be deal with. Sometimes I was feeling like that. Although I had lived with him for five years, there were times that I couldn’t understand him.
Despite that, he was there for me. Making sure that I was living happily. All my needs were fulfilled. Every single of it.
He was the only family that I had. Maybe…he was my real father. And I loved him.
Blake chuckled nervously. “I’m fully awake now.” And we laughed together. See? We definitely needed something to talk about. “You don’t need to thank me. I just hated how they acted to you. Although I had promised Chloe even if I didn’t make any promise to her; I will still take you in.” Oh, my.
“May I ask why?” Maybe he would let his guard down. Maybe he would spill the beans.
“I thought that…by adopting you could be my redemption.”
“Your…redemption? What does that mean?”
“It’s about my past, Olivia. I would like to tell you about it but it was too dark and I don’t want a person so pure like you to go inside and got stuck there.”
“Why would you say that? To me, you are kind. At least to me, you are. Please, don’t ever say that you’re from the darkness. You’re far too good to be there.”
“Olivia,” he whispered and I turned back to him. I meant everything that I said. Blake was cold but he was warm. He had a kind heart. He was like an angel to me. An angel guarding me against the dark.
Suddenly Blake pulled over the car. He turned to me as his blue eyes were staring at me.
That’s when I could feel it.
The spark between us. This was not the same as Stewart. Blake didn’t do anything, literally nothing, yet he managed to stun me in place.
He raised his hand and he softly touching my cheek. I closed my eyes, feeling the warmness from him. “Olivia,” he called out again and I opened my eyes.
He was too close to me. I could feel his warm breath. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. Is he going to kiss me?
“You are such a danger, little girl,” he murmured. I blinked at his words and before I could react, he pulled himself and started to drive again.
I was…rather disappointed that he didn’t do anything. Leaving with a question mark about what he meant by I was such a danger to him.
“We will be arriving in Vegas soon,” he announced.
We didn’t talk for the rest of the road and as he said; shortly after we have arrived in Vegas.
I was practically amazed by the city. It was almost midnight yet the city looked like it was alive.
Blake turned the car to Four Season and parked in the basement. He grabbed all the bags from the trunk and put them on the trolley. We headed to the lobby as he mentioned his booking room to the concierge. The bell boy escorted us to their room which surprisingly…was the President Suite.
As I entered the room, I was amazed by it. Ignoring what Blake was saying to the bell boy, I looked around the suite. I went to the dining room, living room, and finally the bedroom. The suite was amazing. The bed was a single king’s size bed. It was huge!
I went to see the bathroom and even the bathroom…was stunning. I never saw a bathroom like this. The bath was big, fit for two people. I couldn’t believe Blake had booked us this suite.
Something struck my mind.
There was only one bed.
I turned to the door and found Blake was standing there. “Do you like it?”
“Um, very much, but…where I will be sleeping?”
“You can sleep here and have the bed on your own. I have ordered a sofa bed for me outside.” What?
“You’re kidding, right? You should have the master bedroom,” I argued.
“No. I will rather sleep outside while you take the bedroom.”
“But—”
“Go take a shower, Olivia. And go to bed right after. You had hit a long trip and it’s best if you rest and ready for tomorrow,” he stated and put my bags on top of the bed. As he was pulling the door to closed it, he stopped in the middle and asked, “What would you like for breakfast?”
“Um, I’ll leave it up to you.”
“Alright then. Good night, Olivia.”
“Good night.” And he closed the door. Oh, well.
I opened my luggage and pulled out my sleeping pajamas. I took a quick shower and put on my pajamas. Went to bed right after. The mattress was so soft and I didn’t have to take too long for the sleep to take over me.
