Olivia
The next morning after that disastrous night, as I suspected; Karen had a bad hangover. Her head hurt and she felt nauseous.
Last night, when we arrived home-Stewart had to get out of the car and helped me carrying Karen to our bedroom. We were welcomed by Brad who was still awake because he was worried about us. He couldn’t do anything except shaking his head in frustration at how he was going to explain everything to Karen’s parents. I assured him and Karen as well that I won’t tell them and it was better that way.
I walked back from the kitchen and headed to my room. Opening the door and saw Karen was laying on her stomach, moaning about how painful her head was. I closed the door and went to her and gave the glass of water to her. She received weakly. “Thank you.”
Karen tried to sit on the mattress. I helped her and slowly she drank the water.
She had returned to the normal Karen. I didn’t want to face the drunk version of Karen anymore.
“What happened last night?” she asked.
“Well, I didn’t see from the beginning but you were really drunk. Like, really bad.”
“I remember that I was dancing and then there was a guy approaching me and gave me something. And how stupid of me to take it without any second thought and the drink was amazingly good.” There was something inside. Definitely.
“You were lucky because I and Stewart were there to rescue you. I don’t want to imagine what would happen to you if I hadn’t noticed and you were already gone with some unknown guy.”
“I’m really sorry, Liv. I fucked up. I caused so much trouble to you and Stewart. It should be taking care of you and it was the other way around in the end.”
“It’s okay. What matters is that you’re alright.”
“No, it’s not.” Brad suddenly appeared inside the room. “In the end, it was Olivia who took care of you. I told you that you are still a minor and you shouldn’t be looking for trouble by drinking some beer you didn’t even know the alcohol rate is. More importantly, throwing yourself into a guy that you absolutely have no idea who the hell is.”
Karen groaned. “I’m sorry, okay? I fucked up and it won’t happen again. So, could you please stop screaming at me because you’re making the headache becomes even worse!”
“You should be thankful that you only got away with a hungover and not a bloody pussy,” said Brad as I immediately tensed with his words. Brad was definitely Karen’s cousin. They didn’t hold back. No brakes for their mouth.
“Oh, shit. I apologize, Olivia. I should be more careful with my choice of words.” I was silent by his apology. “Can you come downstairs? Let Karen alone for a bit now,” he asked and after I helped Karen adjusted her sleeping position, I walked out of the room together with Brad.
I followed Brad to the dining room where Emma was waiting for us. She raised her eyes when she sensed we were close to her. “Is she alright?”
“Yeah, she will be fine. But she probably has to skip breakfast,” Brad said.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t stop her.”
“It’s fine, Olivia. You didn’t know that she would get drunk that badly and may that be her lesson to not drink carelessly.” Brad went to sit next to Emma while I was across them. Having breakfast with little conversation. Last night, I tried to call Blake after I made sure Karen was taken care of and sleeping peacefully.
He didn’t pick it up. He might be shocked by what Karen said but if he was not bothered, he should just pick my phone but he didn’t. Maybe he was tired and at least he could hear my voice; that was all that mattered to him.
After I finished breakfast, I didn’t feel to do anything. Karen was still in the bedroom and in no condition to go anywhere. I decided to spend my time on the balcony admiring the sea. I sat on the couch as my eyes fixed on the sea. Until I received a call. I immediately pulled it out from my pocket and it was a call from John. “Hi, John.”
“Hi, Liv. How’s it going?”
“It was…fun. Why?”
“Did something happen to Blake last night?” Oh, great.
“Um, I don’t think so. Why? Did something happen to Blake?”
“He is in a foul mood today and like a ticking bomb ready to explode. I even had to forbid everyone who wanted to see him today because I know whatever they said, whether it’s good or bad, he will eventually throw them out and to not bother him,” John explained. So, Blake is on his Devil Boss mode now.
“I was out with Karen last night. We went to the club and it appears that Blake called me but I didn’t hear it.”
“Let me guess, he didn’t take it nicely for you to be at the club?”
“Yes. And because he heard a guy’s voice next to me.”
“Is he the model friend?”
I raised my eyebrow when I heard him asked me that. “How did you know?”
“Blake told me. Was everything okay when he found out that guy was with you?”
I sighed. “Well, not really. Karen was drunk to the point of blabbering something inappropriate.”
“What did she say? Is that why Blake is in a bad mood today?”
“I guess so. Karen brought Stewart into the conversation and maybe…Blake wasn’t really happy about it.”
If you love her, you should just tell her.
Karen’s words were echoing in my mind again.
“Well, Blake is never good for handling boys in your life anyway.” I chuckled when he said that.
“I tried to call him last night but he didn’t answer.”
“I suggest that you leave him alone for now or you will be facing his wrath even though you are his daughter. Maybe not as terrible as he is with his staff but for his sake as well, you should stay away from him. Just for today. He will feel a lot worse if he snapped at you. Wait for his call and maybe at that time, he had cooled down,” John suggested. Yeah, I know what he means. Blake’s version when he was so pissed off? Uh-oh, no thank you.
“You’re right. I should just wait for him. I hope this won’t change his mind about going on holiday with me,” I nervously said.
John scoffed. “Nonsense. There’s no way on earth that he would cancel his holiday with you.”
“Thanks, John. Please keep an eye on him and let me know if something happened to him.”
“I will. Take care of Karen too. How unfortunate of you unable to have a vacation today because of her.”
“It’s fine and I will feel better once Karen got up on her feet.”
“You’re right. Well, I’ll talk to you again later. Bye, Olivia,” he parted with me and ended the call.
I sighed and leaned my back on the couch. I could hear the door was opened and saw Karen stepped out. “Hi.”
“Hey. Are you okay now?”
“I just threw up again and I feel so much better.”
“I see.” Karen closed the door and sat next to me on the couch. “Olivia, I’m sorry,” she started.
“What? It’s fine.”
“No, it’s not,” she cut me. Karen turned her eyes to me, feeling so guilty. “I overheard you. I guessed I said something terrible to Blake, huh? And he’s probably mad now.”
“It’s fine, Karen. I will talk to him again later,” I convinced her, and we went silent. Some part of me was hoping that Blake would listen to me. He misunderstood everything. Stewart was just a friend. Karen was drunk and that’s why last night she was uncontrollable.
“Did John say anything?”
“Well, he sent his regards and asked me to take care of you.” Karen scoffed when I said that.
“That man will never change. So cold yet so warm.” I smiled and I couldn’t disagree with her. John was like that. “I ruined our vacation today.”
“Come on, Karen. Stop blaming yourself.”
“I regret and am ashamed of myself for throwing myself to that guy. I guess somewhere in my mind, I was hoping the guy that I had slept with will appear and save me again,” she said sadly. Although she wasn’t looking at me, I could sense her sadness and her brown eyes were watery. Ready to cry.
“Have you fallen with that guy?”
Karen turned me and smiled sadly. “Maybe.”
“But you said you don’t remember his face and you ran away in the morning.”
“There’s something about him that made me interested in him. That’s why I panicked when I woke up in the morning because he had saved me yet I seduced him and made him lose his morality. I know that guy only wanted to save me because I remembered…that man wanted to go home after he dropped me at the hotel. I hold him back and asked him to stay and well, you know what happened next.”
I guessed the alcohol had taken over her. That stuff was really dangerous and I had to get away from it.
I touched her shoulder and rubbed it gently. “If you two are meant to be; you will see him again.”
Karen smiled and wiped her unseen tears. “I hope Blake will call you because I want to apologize too.”
“I hope so, babe.” I hated this silent treatment. It felt like he was treating me like before again. When he was so cold to me and didn’t consider me as his daughter. And by the time my phone was ringing and I peeked to the phone and a miracle just happened.
Blake’s name was on it.
I looked at Karen and she smiled. I picked it up and put the phone on my ear. “Olive?” he called softly and gently. I really wanted to cry. It was a relief for him to call me.
“Blake, I’m—”
“I’m so sorry about last night,” he cut me first. I wanted to apologize but he got me first.
“I’m sorry too, Blake.”
“That’s my fault, sweetheart. I should have trust you more and I know that you’re alright.” I smiled while looking at Karen. Giving her the hint that Blake was already in a better mood. “Is Karen alright?”
“Yes. She said she wanted to apologize for what she said last night. Can you talk to her? She’s sitting right next to me.”
“Sure.” I handed the phone to Karen and she accepted it.
“Hello, Mr. Morgan? Yes, sir. I apologize for whatever I said last night. I was not on my right mind,” she said. It was rare to see Karen asking for an apology to someone. I couldn’t hear what they were talking about but at least he didn’t make her cry. But…
For a second, I saw her cheeks were blushing. And her final words to him, “Alright.” And she handed the phone back to me.
“Blake?”
“Liv, I assure you that our holiday would not be canceled because I heard from John that you thought I would drop it.” John already talked to him? Wow.
“Listen, I might be finishing my works quicker than I predicted so I might be picking you up around six on Friday,” he informed.
“I can’t wait then. And it’s better so when we reached the hotel, you can get rest immediately.”
“Alright, Princess. I’ll talk to you again soon.”
“Okay. Bye.” And we ended the call.
I was relieved. Like I could finally breathe peacefully.
“Thank God he wasn’t mad at me. Your father is a good man,” Karen commented.
“What are you two talking about earlier?” I asked and she grinned. Great, the normal Karen had returned.
“It’s a. S. E. C. R. E. T. You should ask him about it.” And Karen stood up. Stretching her arms. “I’m going to take a shower. I stink with puke,” she said and walked back to the house. Leaving me curious about what they were talking about through the phone.
