It was a look of intimate familiarity and that was one of the reasons she felt hurt and now she is thinking ‘what if she is just putting too much meaning to what she saw?’
He might actually be irritated by her and her doings but with how she was feeling at the moment, she couldn’t see things that way… he felt like he needed that hug from her when she entered and saw them like that.
‘He didn’t hug her back’ her mind told her but she ignored it and proceed to ask her previous question.
“Do you still have feelings for her?” she asked one more time and got her answer when he didn’t answer.
She bit her bottom lip to stifle a sob then looked at him with the tears pooling out of her eyes and down her cheeks.
“So, you still love her,” she said and he didn’t say anything but just looked at her.
They stared into each other eyes with hurt written all over their face.
“You don’t need to do this,” he said after a while and she shook her head then closed her eyes as the tears kept coming down.
She opened them and saw that he was looking at her with sad eyes and he had stepped closer to her.
Maybe she shouldn’t just think or let his silence speak for him. He needed to say it to her and then she will decide what next to do.
“I will ask you one more time,” she said with gritted teeth.
He swallowed and gave her a pleading look.
“Do you still have feelings for her?” she asked once more and he didn’t say anything but just look at her again and that hurt her over again.
His silence was hurting her and she wanted so bad for him to say something to her, anything to assure her that she is lying.
“Do you have feelings for her Dimitri?” she asked using his first name again and he suddenly felt the pain escalate when she did.
‘It is Miguel, Miguel, not Dimitri’ he said in his mind but couldn’t voice it out because he felt like something was stuck in his throat that prevented him from saying anything.
Did he love Daniella? He wasn’t sure… he was just sure that he felt something for her when he saw her again and when she came closer to him and hugged him.
There was something there that he couldn’t fully explain but he isn’t sure it is love. It possibly can’t be love, it has been so long being it can’t be.
“Did you ever love her Dimitri?” she asked with frustration and the next words that rolled out of his lips shut her up.
“Yes,” he said faintly.
The way he said it was so light that even the wind was able to mix with it to make it a faint whisper but she was able to hear him… grasp what he said and it sank her hopes of something great for them.
‘He loves her and not me’ she said in her mind and his words from when they were on that vacation played in her head.
He just likes her and nothing more but he loves his ex… something a current partner doesn’t want to hear but she did.
That was why he kept holding back all those times and when he felt like he could move on, he decided to… test what he felt with her and said all those.
She believed, how could she be such a fool? To believe what a man like him said to her.
‘I am not asking you to believe whatever I am saying to you, I am just telling you the truth and it is all up to you to believe it or not’ his words rang in her head and she thought maybe he didn’t say the truth that time.
He must have noticed she was naïve and innocent then decided to play mind games on her and compelled her to believe him.
‘He didn’t compel you, you choose to believe him’ her subconscious reminded her and she shook those thoughts away from her head because she could remember how sincere he looked when he told her all those.
But still, this present revelation is keeping her from seeing all those rather she feels angry and sad… like she was let down.
No wonder it felt like she was the only one following through with this at some point but she didn’t want to put any meaning into things and just enjoy the new side of their relationship.
Then a question popped inside her head and that could only determine if she would stay and try to work things or…
“Do you love me?” she asked in a whisper and his eyes went wide a bit before returning to their normal size.
He wasn’t expecting her question because he still hasn’t figured out how he is feeling and if what he feels for Daniella is truly love or just a former feeling trying to rekindle its way to his heart.
With Audriana, he wanted things slow and didn’t want to rush things like in his previous relationship.
“Audr-”
“Answer me” she interrupted him and he let out a sigh not knowing what his answer was.
A lot had happened and it made him so confused and conflicted that he couldn’t define what he was feeling for her.
He wants to blame Daniella but couldn’t bring himself to blame anyone but himself. It is all his fault, all this: the feelings involved the intimacy of how they grew their bond, the flirting, plays, and giggles.
He shouldn’t have let it grow from him throwing insults at her when he had said something nice about her, if it had remained that way, she would have been looking for more ways to provoke him and disobey him.
But he let it go further and look at where it led them to. She looked heartbroken and he felt responsible for it.
He heard her chuckle and looked at her as she shook her head and looked at the door behind her.
“This… all of it was a mistake” she muttered shakily and without further ado, she walked out of his office for the second time in tears from being hurt by him and this time, it probably might be the last… or not.
He sat on one of the chairs and buried his face in his palms as a tear slipped out of his eyes then he let out a little cry of pain… not the physical pain but that of the heart.
The one that starts gradually at first and slowly spread throughout your entire being and causes temporary paralysis and probably a permanent heartache.
He stayed like that for a whopping ten minutes and it suddenly occurred to him what happened the first time she left his office in a sad state. With that thought in mind, he sprang up from his chair and grabbed his keys, phone and went out of his office in a flash.
