If I had evidence that Rona caused Stephan Buther’s memory loss, I wouldn’t let her go.
Dason called, “Daina.”
I abruptly released Rona’s hand, forcing her to stumble.
Dason prevented Rona from hitting me again.
“Miss Rona, observe your manners. Don’t bully people.”
Dason seemed worried after reprimanding Rona.
When Dason noticed my crimson palm print, his countenance clouded.
Unaware of the scenario, he questioned Stephan Buther, “Why didn’t you speak up for Daina? She’s your mate. How can you let her be bullied?”
“Mr. Stephen Buther, let me make things right for you. I’m your friend. I’ve seen the love you and Daina have for each other. You two are intended to be mates. Please don’t believe Rona’s words. always She’s tried to steal Daina’s place. Mr. Stephen Buther, you must be cautious not to be tricked by her.”
Perhaps Dason’s remarks persuaded Buther.
“I’ll examine this and provide you everyone an acceptable answer. As for you, Daina, I’m sorry you were wounded by my sister. I hope you can forgive her rudeness.”
Stephan Buther calling Rona his sister reassured me.
I gazed into his eyes and said, “Then I’ll wait for your responseStephan Buther, I’m going now. Take care of yourself.”
It pained to leave my partner without saying goodbye.
Buther’s viewpoint:
Tonight’s statements puzzled me.
I followed Daina as she walked away.
“Yours,”
I informed her, returning his ring.
She stared at it in shock before handing it to me.
“You handed me your ring for safekeeping. Keep it. It’s yours.”
I doubtfully put the ring on my finger in front of her.
The ring suited my finger perfectly.
Daina appeared honest, but what about Rona? She lied?
Daina smiled that night.
Her speech and manner were sophisticated and unconstrained.
Daina made me feel trustworthy, unlike Rona.
She could readily impact my mood while she was around.
Rona walked up to me while I was thinking this and sneered, “That girl must be a scam. She’s been trying to capture your attention and fool you into believing her. She covets your wife’s status. It’s a sloppy lie. Stephen Buther, don’t believe her.”
“Rona, stop badmouthing,”
Sharply, I said.
I didn’t like hearing Daina insulted.
“We’re childhood friends. Do you think I’d lie?”
Her ticky-tacky phrases irked me, so I pulled her hand off my arm.
“Rona, don’t assume I’m an idiot. I can decide.”
Even without memories, I know right from wrong.
POV: Daina
Today, I saw my sweetheart.
Stephan Buther was no longer standing before me.
I became tired of the banquet.
Dason poured me water and said, “Daina, are you okay?”
“Cheer up. Nothing can genuinely separate you and Mr. Stephan Buther. Rona won’t get what she wants. He belongs to you thus he’ll come back to you sooner or later.”
Dason was scared I’d sink into a depression and comforting me.
I knew it was useless to be upset, but I hadn’t recovered from the shift.
My beloved promised to wait for me before I arrived.
When I returned, he’d forgotten me and all we’d gone through.
I wouldn’t be sad forever.
“Don’t worry, Dason. I’ll get Stephan Buther back and give Rona what she deserves. You’re right. She can’t retain what was never hers.”
The dinner included various performances.
A magic performance started then.
Several magicians performed and interacted with the crowd.
Magician offered Rona a rose.
Another magician gave me a Rose.
I rose up to take the flower when he switched it for a gun.
He shot my heart.
I’m being hunted. Thankfully, I was prepared.
Since I entered the venue, I’d been looking for attackers.
When the magician approached, I felt uneasy.
Maria invited me to this feast, so why wouldn’t she ditch me? I reacted swiftly and escaped.
I was embraced again.
I saw Stephan Buther behind me. His presence comforted me.
The other magicians pulled out guns.
Gunfire erupted.
Some assailants attempted to kill Stephan Buther and myself.
Everyone scattered. We were targets.
Stephan Buther protected me despite losing his memory.
We worked well together as before. We attacked and defended to defeat the ambushers.
Stephan Buther rescued me at a critical time. I felt comfortable and odd looking at his face.
In that life-or-death moment, I realized something. So Stephan Buther forgot me? Until we died, nothing else mattered.
After we subdued the assassins, Stephan Buther pointed a revolver at them and screamed, “Who sent you here? Why did you attempt to kill me and this woman?
Before Stephan Buther could respond, the assassins commit themselves simultaneously.
Nobody could stop them since everything occurred so quickly.
We have no idea who was behind it because they were deceased.
Supposedly, Eden dispatched these assassins. I didn’t expect him to murder me during the party.
But he murdered Stephan Buther? He baffled me.
Buther’s viewpoint:
“Take these bodies to forensics and don’t allow anybody modify them,”
After the assassination attempt, I gave orders.
Daina and I were accosted at the dinner.
Eden’s late arrival seemed suspicious.
“Mr. Stephan Buther, are you okay? I’m sorry for all the difficulty. I didn’t realize the magicians I hired were assassins.”
I ignored Eden and checked Daina instead.
“I’m alright, honey. Don’t worry.”She froze after saying the endearment.
Saving her seemed naturally to me. I acted when I realized she was in danger.
Daina must have recognized what I was because she said, “You rescued me on instinct because we’re connected mates. Do you think I’m your mate? Rona’s a phony.”
Her remarks made me grin. Maybe she’s correct.
I was outraged at Eden after learning Daina was alright.
The assassination attempt occurred on his domain, but he was seeking to avoid responsibility.
I didn’t let him off easy.
Since this occurred at the anniversary party, Eden should be blamed.
“Mr. Stephan Buther, it’s my fault you were put in danger, but please believe me. I’ll investigate and reveal who’s responsible,” Eden pleaded.
“Fine. We’ll chat again once you investigate. But if I find out you were involved in the assassination…”
I’ll check into that, Mr. Stephan Buther.”
Eden ended the meal owing to an emergency with my consent and apologized to the guests.
Rona approached me.
