Mia suddenly realized herself after she had dumped the smoothie on Lakshmi, her necklace was also glowing again but she didn’t notice. Her walk home was a lonely one as usual, she was passing by a tree when she saw a cat stuck in a tree. It was so high up and it looked scared. Mia hated animals but she also knew what it felt like to be alone and helpless.
So she tried to make it come down but it wouldn’t, she finally came up with a way. She saw a huge stone on the floor and aimed exactly 4 millimeters away from the cat. The cat thought she wanted to hit it so it panicked and jumped down from the tree, landing on its feet.
She picked up her school bag which she had dropped earlier and continued her walk to the orphanage.
“Oh no! What is that?” One of the kids at the orphanage screamed and ran away from Mia when he saw the glowing necklace on her neck.
Mia looked confused as she looked around to check if the boy had seen a ghost or a wild animal but she didn’t see any.
“Look there it is glowing” the boy pointed at Mia’s neck as he held one of the Lady that worked at the orphanage in the wrist. She looked very confused because she didn’t see anything.
“I have work to do so don’t stress me out. That’s Mia, she’s weird I know but she isn’t glowing” the lady went back inside, the kid followed her looking very frightened. Mia was so confused as to what just happened
At Mia’s school
“Kids don’t forget to tell your parents that you will be going on an excursion tomorrow, it is going to be fun we promise ” a teacher was announcing to the students as they gathered at the assembly ground. There were alot of murmurs from the kids as to why the excursion wasn’t announced earlier and where they were going to.
“So you still had the guts to come to school today?” Lakshmi sat on Mia’s desk and played with her hair. Mia stood at the class door, looking at random things. She just couldn’t set her eyes on a particular thing.
“Now she is pretending as if she doesn’t know what I am talking about. Girls get her” she blew a bubble with the gum in her mouth before gesturing for her friends to get a hold of Mia.
Luckily, the teacher walked in and the students went to sit in the chairs as if nothing had happened. That didn’t stop Lakshmi from taking her eyes off Mia, she had her eyes glued on her throughout the entire class.
Scared Mia ran away from the class during recess knowing they were there to get her, she couldn’t even get herself to breathe normally.
“Just stop trying to run? I promised you that you would pay for what you did yesterday” Lakshmi pinned Mia to her locker.
“I’m very sorry Lakshmi. I didn’t mean to dump the smoothie on you. I really don’t know what had come over me that prompted me to dump the smoothie on you. Please forgive me and let me go” Mia pleaded as she was sweating so much.
“Really? By the time I am done with you then you are going to know what had come over you” Lakshmi threatened Mia. Kyle was smirking as he watched everything, although whatever Lakshmi had in mind wouldn’t get her expelled, at least it would make her feel pain and that gave Kyle some level of satisfaction.
Suddenly, Mia pushed Lakshmi and she almost fell if not for her friends that caught her.
“Don’t ever touch me again” Mia warned and walked away.
Mia couldn’t even believe herself, it was as if something had taken over her mind and she could no longer think for herself.
No one could believe that Mia could pull off such a stunt, even her biology teacher who had been watching from a corner. The entire day went by so fast and Lakshmi still hadn’t thought of how she was going to have her revenge on Mia.
After Mia stood up to Lakshmi for the second time she just couldn’t get herself to sleep that night, she had crazy imaginations that Lakshmi was out to get her and that she would push her off the stairs or something.
The next day they went for their excursion which was more like a tour of the city than an excursion, they visited the park, the beach and so two other places.
Now they were at their last stop. One of the biggest and exquisite hotels in the city. Its swimming pool was about 50ft deep so only a few who where brave enough dared to go near it.
The kids were amazed and surprised about how deep it was.
Mia thought it was a waste of money
to build such a pool and at the end of the day no one would be able to swim in it but in other thoughts the pool attracted a lot of people just to come see it they would have to pay so it was fetching the owner money anyways, funny Mia kept thinking.
Lakshmi saw this as the perfect opportunity to start her mischief, she started to pull and drag Mia’s hair while she stood behind her although no one noticed, Mia was in pain.
“Please Lakshmi let me go” Mia held her hair and winced in pain. Just then the students began to take a closer look at the pool.
“Lakshmi where are you?” Their biology teacher who was one of the teachers that accompanied them inquired when she was hearing Mia’s little squick. She just knew Lakshmi was behind it.
“Here I am” Lakshmi hastily made her way to the front of the crowd, it was quite a struggle and the floor was very slippery. She was scared that the teacher might be onto her because she wasn’t careful, the wet floor made her slip and she fell into the pool. Lakshmi couldn’t swim and the teacher was too scared to even attempt to go into that pool.
“Oh no! ” Everyone gasped when they saw Lakshmi’s hand sink into the water. They couldn’t hear her scream for help anymore.
“I’m coming, I will go get someone from the management” the teacher thought when she finally recovered from the 3 minutes shock everyone had. At once she left them in a hurry
Mia began to look sideways as if she was searching for something, she was so terrified and moved away from the pool but then her necklace began to glow again and she found herself jumping into the pool. Everyone gasped as they thought she wanted to use it as a means to commit suicide. Lakshmi’s friends and other kids in the school had begun to shed tears, they knew neither Mia nor Lakshmi would come back to them.
Meanwhile in the water, Mia’s bright blue eyes had become brighter and her legs turned into a fishtail, it was as if this wasn’t happening to her for the first time. Mia, who couldn’t swim before, started to swim like a fish using her hand to drive the water behind her. Her eyes and necklace were also glowing, the necklace became a source of light in the pool, she began her search for Lakshmi who was already at the bottom of the water and lying unconscious.
She didn’t even try to wake her up, she just held her palms and began to draw circles on them and suddenly her eyes opened. Lakshmi was half awake but she could clearly see that Mia was the one saving her life, although she couldn’t see Mia’s tail. Mia held Lakshmi’s hand and began to swim with just one hand until she finally returned to the surface.
Just when she thought everything was over, Lakshmi’s hand slipped from hers and Lakshmi fell into the water again. She had to go back to get her but this time her necklace served as a magnet, pulling Lakshmi towards Mia and making her job easier. Mia’s schoolmates began to pull Mia and Lakshmi out of the water, they first pulled Lakshmi out because it was clear that Mia had some kind of balance in the water.
They couldn’t see that she had no legs, they didn’t see her tail because it was still in the water. One of them noticed her glowing necklace but thought maybe it was a reflection from the sun since he didn’t see it for too long before it stopped glowing and that was when her legs returned.
Her schoolmates successfully got her out of the water and it was at that point that the teacher arrived with a well built man who was holding a very long rope on his shoulder.
“How did she get out?” The biology teacher came running towards Lakshmi who was wet and half awake. She didn’t notice Mia until she passed out.
“What happened? Where is this place!” Mia placed her palm on her head as she struggled to open her eyes. When she did, she found herself in one of the hotel rooms with almost everyone hovering over her.
To her greatest surprise Lakshmi was the first person that came closer to her.
“Thank you so much. If not for you then I don’t know what would have happened to me” Lakshmi joined her palms together and pleaded with a confused Mia. She couldn’t remember anything that had happened, she just stared at Lakshmi very confused.
“Please forgive me for everything I have done to you up until this point. I promise never to hurt you from now on” Lakshmi went on her knees. Lakshmi had come to realize that the friends she thought were friends weren’t friends at all, they didn’t even make any attempt to save her. The only person that came to her rescue was Mia who she had been making her life a living hell. She wanted to change for Mia’s sake, if only Mia would give her a chance.
