Sofia’s pov
‘It couldn’t be.’
The same words kept echoing in my head over and over again as soon as I exited the restaurant, without waiting for a response from her.
It felt like the more I repeated those three words in my head, would somehow make it real, but deep down, I knew that was impossible, which made a heavy lump settle in the middle of my throat.
I remained silent during the car ride all the way home. I had previously planned to do something else after the conversation with Lola, but after the outcome of the said conversation, all I wanted to do is to get home so i can finally let everything out.
If my bodyguards noticed anything off in my demeanor, they didn’t mention it, which I greatly appreciate. Ryan would have definitely attempted to find out the reason behind my stiff silence, but Ethan’s presence in the car prevented that from happening, which is for the best because I wasn’t actually ready to speak to him just yet, especially with the mood I’m currently in.
I let a sigh into my cupped palms and let my gaze dart out the window of the moving car, and a heavy weight settle in the middle of my chest.
‘It couldn’t be.’
The thought crossed my mind once again, re echoing twice, but this time, it almost sounded like the voice was mocking me for desperately wanting to be delusional.
~~~
The sob remained trapped in my chest, until I safely made my way into the bedroom, and that’s where I finally let it all out. The warm feeling of my tears streaming down my face in waves and the thought of how Luca would have thumbed those same tears away, made a bitter taste cling harder to my tongue.
I sank into the floor, resting my back against the wood of the bed, and then I let my sobs consume my entire body, because it had been begging to be let out since the moment Lola had broken that news to me.
After a few minutes of letting the tears fall freely, I asked myself what it was that I was doing.
Why am I crying like this, especially without hearing anything from the horses’ mouth yet.
That thought made the tears slow down and made me breathe more properly.
Lola had sounded hella convincing, which is why a lot of things are currently going on in my head right now.
After a few minutes, I forced myself off the ground and tried to dry my face completely. It was no use acting all pathetic like this all because of all what I heard from a random woman whom I’ve only met a few times.
With that in mind, I dragged myself into the bathroom and took a long shower, and throughout that moment, I tried reminding myself not to think about the situation, or if lola would end up being right. It was harder than it sounded because that was the only thing that was choosing to keep coming back to my mind over and over again.
As I dried my hair, I asked myself what would become of us if Lola ends up being right, but I was quick to remind myself that I had let Lola fuck with my head too much with her words, and that there was no need of any kind of assumptions since Luca is yet to be back yet.
After I got dressed, I contemplated on doing something so as to get my mind off the current situation.
I knew trying to paint would be a huge ass joke because that’s only going to get me more stressed out, because in Luca’s words, I was a cute, little perfectionist.
With pursed lips, I realized that I had just thought about Luca again after telling myself that I wasn’t going to do so for now, until he returns at least.
~~~~~~
I was trying to fiddle with the keys of the piano in the room which Luca met months ago, the piano which we had soiled that faithful evening.
Luca had found me there, and his shock was expected, because this wasn’t a usual routine of mine.
The smile slowly drained out of his face when his eyes locked with mine, and I instantly gave up on trying to pretend like everything is fine at first, because it’s of no use any longer since he had been able to pick out the difference in my mood at once.
“Bunny… what’s wrong?” He asked in a soft voice as he closed the distance between us and for a moment, I told myself that Lola was completely wrong and that there was no way she was right about someone that treats me this precious.
“It’s nothing.” I tried to reassure him at first, and even added a smile, but he didn’t buy it, and deep down, I knew my heart wouldn’t ever be at rest until I heard about it from his mouth.
I hesitated for a few moments and blinked up at him, he was still standing at the other side of the piano, which I was still seated at, with my hands laid on the ivory keys.
I sucked in a breath a minute later.
“Did you… use to hook up with Lola?”
The sound of a pin dropping could probably be heard due to how intense the silence that followed that question was. The look of concern on his handsome face shifted from concern and curiosity to shock.
I kept patiently waiting for a response, but when the minutes kept multiplying, I ignored the racing of my heart and slowly got to my feet.
“So… it’s true?” I whispered in a small voice as I moved away from the piano. He reached for my hand next, but I wrenched it away at once.
“Don’t touch me.” I warned in another whisper.
My eyesight got hella blurry moments later and saltiness filled my throat.
“How did yo–”
“So, it is true.” I said, a little louder this time, like that was going to make it truer.
“It’s not… it’s not how it looks, I swear it.”
