Sofia’s pov
I expected the text before it came in, but that didn’t stop me from flinching when my phone vibrated against my thigh. I glanced down at the lit up screen and grimaced at the newly arrived message, the name atop it making me let out a slow sigh.
It was from Lola.
We spoke a little yesterday and we agreed for her to text me the location where we’d be meeting. Today is the day where she’s finally going to be revealing to me what she was supposed to have done the last time we met but didn’t get to do for reasons unknown to me. I knew damn well that I wasn’t even supposed to be entertaining her right now, I knew Luca would be disappointed to discover this, but for the life of me, I couldn’t help but be curious.
After she had informed me that she knew Luca before, that had piqued my interest so much and automatically, it’s expected that I’d want to know more about what she has to say. If it turns out that she had been telling a lie from the onset, then I’d make sure to never meet up with her again.
For now, Luca doesn’t know of this. I’m doing it in secret, because he’d only tell me that I was being delusional should he know about it. And who knows? It might end up being that Lola is only lying. But, till then, I have to head over there by myself so I can listen to what it is that she has to say. If not, my mind might never be at peace.
And so, I got dressed hurriedly and left the house in a few minutes. A part of me considered if this was a silly trap set by Sols herself, but I reminded myself that I was currently with Ryan and Ethan, and with them around, nothing can happen to me.
Speaking of Ryan, I’m still have yet to have a conversation with him. He was the one driving right now and I’ve been avoiding staring into the rearview mirror just because I don’t want to meet his eyes one way or the other. I knew I should find time to have that conversation with him and explain where we both stand to him, but I can’t do that with Ethan around right now, and besides, I have something more pressing to do right now, which is me meeting up with Lola.
The conversation with Ryan would just have to wait for now.
When the car finally pulled up outside a restaurant which I’ve never been to before, I looked around for any sign of danger before alighting the car right before any of my bodyguards could get to it. I knew damn well that dangers tend to blend well with any kind of scereny so they don’t stand out and give themselves away, which was why I said a quick prayer before letting out a breath.
“I’ll be back soon. It probably won’t take too long.” I said to my two bodyguards without looking into any of their faces. They responded dutifully and I turned away from them to walk into the restaurant, with the heels of my boots making a light sound from each step I took. I knew I exude nothing but confidence right now and I love that for myself so much.
I sighted Lola almost immediately, situated at the very back and I made my way towards her at once. I sank into the seat opposite hers without waiting for an invitation, and then I placed my bag on the table.
“I hope you’ve been well?” She asked after about a minute and I let out an uncommitted hum while nodding my head.
“Let’s get straight to the point, yeah?” I suggested almost immediately, watching as she snorted before leaning forward. Her hair was up in a messy bun and a pair of glasses sat on her head, like she wore it on her way here.
“Impatient, aren’t we?” She murmured and my eyes narrowed at once.
“Lola, if you’re going to waste my time again today, I’m going to leave right away, so you had better get on with it already.” I breathed out while feeling my heart pound against my sides a little.
“Alright, alright… I’m going to start speaking already.” Lola finally responded. “Just please, brace yourself for what we’re going to talk about today.”
I gave a small nod of my head and set up straighter while silently asking myself if Lola isn’t going to tell me anything but lies today. As if reading my mind, she continued to speak.
“You might not believe anything I’m going to say today, but I’m very sure your husband will tell you the same thing I’d do if you confront him after I’m done.”
“Just get on with it already.” I murmured on a resigned sigh, I had been working up since I got her text this afternoon, and I didn’t need any more suspense right now. What I need is for her to finally start to speak.
“Okay, so…” Lola paused, but for only a moment. “I’ve known Luca for a while now.”
“Actually, for a few years.” She continued and I almost rolled my eyes because she had mentioned that before. Although, what she said next had my brain malfunctioning at first.
“We’ve known each other because we once used to hook up.”
I blinked at her for a few seconds, mouth agape with nothing coming out.
“What?” I finally whispered when I got my mouth to move again. She gave a small shrug of her shoulders before clasping her hands on the table.
“I-” I trailed off, not knowing what to say, or what to think. Lola’s face gave nothing away, gave no indication if she’s lying or telling the truth.
“It can’t be. Y- you’re lying.” I whispered after a few heavy seconds.
A few heartbeats passed before lola shrugged her shoulders once again.
“Why the hell would I do that?”
