Sofia’s pov
My phone began to vibrate and I let out a long sigh as I reached for it, accepting the call as soon as I realized who it was that was calling.
It was Kayla.
“Did you forget the schedule we made?” Was the first thing she said as soon as I placed the phone against my ear, prompting me into rolling my eyes while pressing my fingers against the hot surface of my coffee filled cup.
“Of course not.” I responded, even though I had definitely forgotten, thanks to my mind being occupied by the sudden encounter I had with Lola yesterday.
Kayla whined in my ear, indicating that she wasn’t buying what I had just said right now.
We had both agreed to meet up this evening for something important, and I knew pulling out right now is going to be really unfair to her, especially seeing how she was always pulling up for me withou questions whenever I needed her presence and physical appearance for something.
“You had better show up here in thirty minutes, and I mean it.” She warned and I proceeded to reassure her that I’d be there unfailingly. After a few more back and forth, she ended the call and I exhaled slowly before returning my phone to the table once again.
When I glanced back at Lola, she had a look I couldn’t really interpret on her face and proceeded to take a small sip of her coffee before speaking. “Seems like you have somewhere to be at.”
I let out a long sigh while stirring the coffee with a tiny sooon, not because I was interested in drinking it, but because I wanted to keep my hands busy.
“I do, but it can wait for now.” I responded and waited for a few minutes to pass before starting to speak once again.
“Can it really? You know, I actually have a whole lot to say, and I don’t really think it can be done in a short period of time, and I wouldn’t want to rush through it because I want to get every single detail out.” She explained and I pursed my lips, already starting to feel exasperated.
“How about you start from somewhere? We can just finish talking about some other time if it’s really going to take a lot of time.” I suggested and she didn’t take long to slowly shake her head at me in response.
“I’d have loved to, but I honestly do not think it’s wise to talk about it on two sittings.”
I leaned back in my seat and regarded her for a few minutes while trying to pick out anything that could give anything away on her face.
But I got nothing.
“And why is that? Why do you think so?”
Lola leaned forward this time as she responded. “Hm, let me see… because I feel like once I’m done, you won’t ever want to go to where it is that you planned on going to after our conversation.”
I stared at her for a moment before letting out a long sigh.
“Why don’t you just start from somewhere?”
She shook her head once again. “I’d rather not.”
I pursed my lips in irritation while asking myself why I even took her word seriously in the first place. She doesn’t seem like she actually has anything important to tell me and could probably just be buying time to end up not saying anything tangible, which means I had just been doing worked up since my encounter with her over nothing.
“Why do I feel like you have nothing to say?” I asked after leaning into the table once again. Lola glanced down at her almost empty cup before laughing softly and shaking her head at once.
“Why do you possibly think that?” She inquired and I shrugged a little.
“Cause we’ve been obviously here for over ten minutes and you’re yet to actually get a word out.”
She nodded her head slowly this time like she understand where I’m actually coming from with my sudden conclusion.
“You have a point,”
“So, are you going to say anything?” I asked and when she remained silent after about two minutes, I picked up my bag and got to my feet, and she stood up as well.
“We can meet up again, perhaps when you don’t have other places to rush off to.” She suggested and I shook my head at once.
“Oh, I do not think so. In fact, I’d rather not. You might end up wasting my time once again.”
Lola let out a loud laugh this time as she spoke. “Why in heavens would you think that? If I do not have anything to say to you, I definitely wouldn’t have suggested we meet up today.”
“Lola, I used to see you as someone who deserves my respect, but now, not so much. I value my time so much and I do not tolerate it being wasted unnecessarily, especially after you claimed to want to reveal something to me that involved my husband, when in reality–”
“In reality; it does involve him. Let’s just meet up again and then we can finally have the discussion.”
Not sure If I’d ever agree to meet up with her again, I reluctantly nodded my head at her and even went ahead to exchange contacts with her, and then I departed from her, straight to Kayla’s.
The drive to Kayla didn’t take really long, which I was really grateful for, because I wasn’t really in the mood for an extremely long drive right now.
Kayla pulled me into a hug as soon as I arrived, making me temporarily forget all about Lola as I got lost in Kayla’s arms.
As I spent time with Kayla, her presence was enough to keep my mind thoroughly occupied, but whenever I remained on my own a bit, my mind couldn’t help but return to Lola, while wondering if she indeed knew something or was just bluffing.
