Sofia’s pov
As soon as I collided with a body which made my phone and purse clatter to the ground at once, a gasp left my lips and I instantly glanced up, an apology on my tongue, but then I recognized the face of the woman at once; which made me pull back in surprise.
“Lola…?” I called out in surprise and watched as a smile graced her lips, and then she leaned in for a hug, which I returned eagerly.
“I’m so sorry for running into you, I wasn’t looking at where I was walking to.” I said in apology while glancing at the ground to confirm that she hadn’t dropped anything.
“Oh no, you don’t need to apologize, I understand it, believe me. Everyone gets engrossed in their phones so bad these days.” She responses and I breathed a small chuckle, and speaking of phones, I reached down and retrieved my phone and purse at once.
“I didn’t know you were still in the country, I thought you travelled because you know, I didn’t see you around any longer.” I said to her as I walked past her to place my purse on the counter.
We were currently in a bathroom of a particular popular mall here in Italy. I definitely haven’t expected to come across anyone like this today, and of all places, It had to be in a restroom.
How ironic.
“You’re right, I did travel.” She responded and I let out a small hum while running my hands through my hair. Standing in front of the mirror right now, enable Lola and I to keep locking gazes in the mirror every few seconds.
“So, are you here on a visit? Or to stay for a long while or something?” I asked and when I noticed a grimace on her face, I instantly backtracked. “Please don’t answer it if I overstepped, I was just curious, that’s all.”
“Oh no, you didn’t overstepped. I just recollected something right now, that’s all. It’s not a pleasant memory.” She paused for a moment. “And regarding your question, I’d love to stay here some more, but a particular person warned me to stay away for reasons unknown to me.”
I blinked in confusion. “You can definitely stay if you want to, you shouldn’t let anyone tell you what to do and what to not do.”
As I spoke, I watched as Lola let out a small laugh while shaking her head. “This particular person isn’t to be messed with though, that’s why.”
I turned around to face her fully this time before speaking. “I don’t wanna pry, miss- Lola, but if you’re being forced to do something you don’t want to, I could talk to someone for you or something, I guess. Are you being threatened by someone?”
Lola grimaced a little and hesitated before slowly shaking her head. “It’s uh, it’s a little more complicated than that, Sofia.”
“Oh.” I whispered and glanced around for a moment. I hadn’t really been fond of Lola after that night when Luca when to speak to her, but I wasn’t sure if I even knew how to explain it right now, but it felt like I could pick out the fact that something was wrong, and my first instinct was pushing me to try to fix it.
“Yeah, so please don’t worry too much. I believe that I’d be fine.” She continued and I reluctantly nodded my head. If she doesn’t want my help, then I guess I had better mind my business.
I turned away from her and continued to fix my curls in the mirror when Lola continued to speak once again.
“Although, I do know that you’re curious.”
I saw no point in denying it, and so I shrugged a little while nodding my head. “Of course, I am. I believe it’s only normal for me to be curious right now in this situation.”
“Oh no, I wasn’t referring to this particular situation. I was referring to me… and, your husband.”
I blinked once, having not been expecting the ending part of her sentence. I breathed out a long exhale before speaking, while trying not to start thinking about anything just yet.
“You and my husband? What has that got to do with anything?”
Lola shrugged a little and pushed her hair off her face. “Nothing much, really. I just felt like you’d be curious as to how your husband and I knew each other.”
I turned around this time in confusion. “You both know each other?”
She shrugged but said nothing, and I felt my heart began to accelerate.
“I thought your first time meeting was the day I introduced the both of you?” I whispered and Lola shrugged once again but remained silent.
“It depends. anyways, since you’re curious, we could meet up to talk in a few days time.” She paused for a moment. “But, that’s only if you’re interested.”
I turned away from her and faced the mirror once again, while so many thoughts began to fill up my head at once. I wasn’t sure of what to make of what I was just hearing, or what it is that Lola could want to reveal to me.
But one thing is very certain, and it’s that I’m indeed curious, which was why I agreed to meet up with her.
Hence why, the very next day, we’re both sitting across each other in a small cafe beside a beauty salon.
Lola had a facecap on, but that didn’t stop her from turning a few heads because her body was just one that would pull attention from every direction at once, no matter what she put on.
“So, do you know my name is also Alexa?” She asked after taking a sip of her coffee. I shook my head and wrapped my hand around my cup, even though I wasn’t sure I’d be able to stomach anything right now.
“My second name is Alexa, and a lot of people know me as that.”
I gave a small nod of my head. “That’s nice.” I stated, while it felt like my stomach was in little knots. I hadn’t been able to sleep properly last night because of curiosity, and frankly, I wasn’t in the mood for small talks right now.
