Sofia’s POV
I slide down the high chair I had been sitting on before Matilda had made her way into the kitchen and picked up the now lukewarm cup of coffee and started to make my way towards the sink, ignoring Matilda’s requests and protests of me not allowing her to go empty my cup for me, like she had wanted at first. I turned the content of the cup into the sink and opened the water from the stainless control at the bottom of the tap and started to rinse the cup and spoon beneath the cold water.
I moved my weight from foot to foot as I completely rinsed tbe cup before placing it on the side of the counter, with the hopes of me washing my hands before proceeding to place the cup into the dish washer. Matilda beat me to it and had grabbed up the cup and spoon before I could finish washing my hands with a little soap, and had quickly proceeded to stack the cup and spoon into the dish washer, ignoring my small arguments.
I breathed out a small sigh as I turned off the cold water and reached up to drag down a piece of towel which I used to mop up my hands. Once I was done, I placed the towel back on the spot where I had taken it from before I turned around and leaned my back against the edge of tne counter.
I stared up into the roof of the kitchen before glancing sideways and watching as Matilda started to glide around the kitchen in a way only she knows how to do.
She suddenly turned towards me and cocked her head to the side before I could think of looking away and began to ask in the next second. “So, what would you like for breakfast?” She asked and started to add immediately, before I could say a thing. “I know it’s almost noon and that you shouldn’t really be eating your breakfast this late, so I’m sorry for taking really long to arrive here at the kitchen. That was because I had no idea you’d have woken up by that time.”
I lifted my left hand and waved it at her in a dismissive gesture before huffing out a small sigh. “Aw no, it’s fine. It really is. I wasn’t all that hungry as well.” I said to her and watched as she nodded her head once at me, the look plastered across her face at that moment looked like she didn’t believe me one bit, but was going to act like she believed me anyways.
“Don’t worry about it, Matilda. It’s perfectly alright.” I said to her after a few seconds, right before I dragged my eyes away from her guilt and dragged it towards the door which led into the dining room– my mind automatically zeroing in on the fact that my bigger painting materials where currently being housed in there, and that thought alone was making me feel really giddy.
Because I had painting materials of my own and would finally get to start doing this thing, like I had really hoped, as soon as I had come across that article, days ago.
To think I hadn’t even think I’d get given a phone immediately I got married because my father had made it seem I’d have to be so respectful and manner full, and would also have to please my husband so well, before he could even think of gifting me with a phone– and the biggest shock has happened because he had gifted me with a phone, as well as a well as a freaking black card, tne very next day after we got married, without him even getting to sleep with me and consummate the marriage like he was expected to, and like I had thought he was going to.
I moved my eyes away from the door leading into the dining room at dragged my eyes back into the middle of the kitchen until it was focused on Matilda once again, and I blinked at hrt before leaning my head sideways a little, as soon as I realized that she had been speaking to me for a little while, without me realizing it because I had been completely lost in my own thoughts.
“You were saying? Sorry I didn’t get what you were saying to me, some moments ago.” I said to her and watched as she smiled at me in a really fond wsy before starting to speak. ” it’s alright, I figured.” She breathed out and paused for a few seconds to run her fingers through the flares of her dress before deciding to continue, while still staring straight into my eyes.
“I was listing out the kind of food which you could eat, in order for you to get some much needed strength into your veins, and for you to be s me to make use of your drugs.” She rephrased and I nodded my head at her slowly, as soon as her words had completely sunk into my head.
“You know what? Anything you choose to peepers for me for breakfast is totally fine by me, I don’t really have lots of preferences, since it’s just the basics and like a regular breakfast. I just want to get something into my stomach so I can finally get to work with all what I had already planned out for the day.” I said to her and watched as she started to nod her head before turning her head around a little to stare at the direction of the stove. She stared at it for long seconds before finally turning her head around until she was staring into my face once again, a look which resembled realization crossing her face for a few fleeting seconds before finally vanishing.
“You don’t mind some pieces of pancakes, do you?” She asked and I shook my head after a few seconds, moving around in tne same spot which I had been standing in for a while now.
“No, I don’t.” I said to her and shrugged my shoulders before continuing. “I’d just like it more if there’s a lot of syrup with it, and the pancakes has to be really fluffy.” I continued after a few moments and watched as Matilda breathed out a laugh before lifting her hand up and pressing it against her forehead for a few seconds, the smile still plastered across her face.
“Oh, I know that. I know you love lots and lots of syrup, including you most favorite flavor of the said syrup.” Matilda continued and I grinned a little, managing to lift my shoulders in a tiny shrug, right before I stared out of the entrance of the kitchen, my lips absent mindedly coming to rest against my teeth.
“I’d get to work right now then, you’d prefer a glass of orange juice along with it, right?” She breathed out audibly over her shoulders and I dragged my eyes away from the entrance or the kitchen to focus my face on her face, nodding my head at her in response to her question, right before I moved my gaze off her face once again, to focus my gaze on my sandals glad legs to time.
I moved away from the counter which my back had been leaning against and made my way towards the other counter which was situated in the middle of tne kitchen and I made my way around tne counter until I was leaning against the first High chair on the other side of the counter. I reached on the top of the counter and grabbed my phone, moving it off the counter and holding it firmly in my grip as I started to make my way out of the kitchen.
I paused outside the opened entrance of the kitchen and turned slightly around with my right foot placed on tne line separating the kitchen from the hallway, before I began to call out. “Matilda?” I called out and watched as she turned her head around after a few seconds to steer at me questioningly.
“I’ll be heading to the sitting room right now? Yeah? So um, when you’re done–” I was still speaking before Matilda started to nod her head at me in indication that she perfectly understood what I was trying to say to her.
And with that, I turned back around once around and started to make my way through the hallway until I was standing at the entrance or the sitting room. I pushed the slightly opened door wide open and stepped into the sitting room after I had thrown a glance around the sitting room and had endured that it was completely empty. I headed into it and made my way towards the couch which was located on the furthest side of the sitting room, sinking into tne white colored couch and revealing the softness of tne cushions.
I turned around on the couch and swung my feet over the hand of tbe couch until my head was hanging off the hand and my legs was hanging off the other hand of tbe couch. I allowed my eyes to slide close as I dragged in a deep breath into my lungs, loving how the air in here was chilly as hell, and the cold air stiffling tbe air ghosted over my exposed belle button in a really good way.
