“She’s ok, she has a high fever but no complications,” Keisha said while preparing her things.
“What should I give her, later?”
“Just give her a paracetamol that I give,” she smiled at me. “If there is still a fever just paracetamol but if there is no just let her drink a lot of fluid, instead.”
“Thanks, Keisha.”
“You’re welcome.” When Keisha leaves I seat beside Lileth. He had a fever because she stay on the veranda until morning and soaked in the cold then dried up. I didn’t really let her in and I fell asleep and when I woke up I saw her on the floor. I thought she was sleeping but when I give her a light kick I found out that she fainted. That’s why I called Keisha, Zeus ‘cousin.
Lileth has a fever. Earlier her fever had risen to 40 degrees and she was shivering. She even hallucinates and calls her mom. I admit that I feel sorry for her but it doesn’t mean I have forgiven her.
I sit beside her and look at her peacefully sleeping. This is not what I dreamed for us. This is not the life I want for her. All I want is for us to be happy. To build a happy family with her. But she broke us. She broke my love, my trust, my dream for us.
She broke me. She not only hurt me but she destroyed me. She took away my confidence because of what she did. All my life with her I just felt that I was capable of being me. All my life I was always second to everyone but when she came I was always first to her. She made me feel like I was the best of them all.
But what did she do? She was hiding me. Now I even questioned myself as to where I was lacking and what mistake I had made to make her do that to me. Whether she really loved me or he was just forced on me because she had no choice.
All this wouldn’t have happened to us if she hadn’t deceived me. If she hadn’t hurt me. If he had been true to me.
I heard a knock so I stood up and headed for the door. I saw one of the maids standing outside.
“What do you want?”
“Sir Dale is outside,” I frown my forehead and closed the bedroom door.
“Who’s with him?”
“He’s the only one sir,” I walked towards Dale who was standing outside and turning his back.
“What are you doing here?” I ask him. He quickly turned to me and smiled.
“I came from a veterinarian to check my cat. And since it’s near I decided to come here,” he replied referring to the one-month-old Asheera cat that he is holding now then looked around. “Where’s Lileth?”
“Sleeping.”
“Won’t you let me in? Maybe you can offer me a drink?” I am hesitant to let him in. “I won’t take too long.”
“I hate scumbag, leave that outside.”
“What scumbag are you talking about? It is even cleaner in the conscience of politicians. Haven’t you been used to it since we were kids?” He also followed and entered first. “Let’s go, don’t worry, Lalat. Daddy Dale won’t leave you outside, and don’t mind Uncle Dave because that’s really bitter for furry, unlike daddy who loves thick fur.”
“Tss!” I could do nothing but let him because even if I rebuked him I knew I would not stop him either.
When we are inside we saw the maid carrying food for Lileth. I look at her looking at me asking for my permission by her looks. I sigh before nodding and waiting for Dale’s reaction.
“Excuse me, where are you taking that?” Dale asked her as I expected. The maid looked at me so I answered.
“Lileth is sick, she will bring her food.”
“Sick? she’s sick and you didn’t take her to the hospital?” he asked me with a frown.
“She only had a fever. I already call doc Keisha to check up on her and she said she’s ok.” I motioned for the maid to proceed and confronted Dale again. “She’s ok, simple fever and cold but she’s ok.”
“Did Dylan know?” I frowned and I didn’t like his question.
“What does Dylan care?”
“They’re friends, remember? They’re supposed to be —–
“And you will tell him?”
“Are you hiding something from us, Dave?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Because we notice that you and Lileth don’t seem happy anymore and Dylan is right that since you and Lileth got married, she looks unhappy.”
“What are you trying to say, Dale?”
“Nothing, just want to let you know that whatever it is just be careful. Because first, Dylan is the one you can fight. Secondly, daddy is his back-up.” Then he stepped forward. “I’ll go. I think it was wrong for me to enter.” He was about to leave when I called him so he stopped.
“So, you just came here to check up on us? Is that is, Dale?”
“I told you why I came, I was just passing by,” and then he turned around but I blocked him.
“Don’t mess up with my private life, Dale. Mostly, with me and my wife.”
“I don’t care about you. What I am trying to say is to warn you that you have to be careful because everyone is watching and not just everyone but a powerful one. Been there and done that, don’t repeat my mistakes older brother if you don’t want to be ruined in the eyes of the family forever just because of a mistake and even if you try to correct it, it is useless.” And he left.
I clenched my fist when I did not see him. I know what he means. I look at the door of our room. Is it still my fault if she’s having a hard time? While she is the one to blame for why we ended up like this. Damn woman ever.
