Emily’s POV
A surprised giggle escaped my lips when I entered my bedroom. A huge bouquet of roses stood lovely and proudly on my dresser. There were more or less fifty white roses, with a single red embedded in the center of the huge bouquet.
They were absolutely stunning, and I could help but smile out of appreciation.
“Ah,” Luke’s voice came from behind me, startling me. I guess he must have heard me giggle and came to see what made me so happy and excited.
“I see you found your little surprise,” he said lazily, lying against the door frame.
“You knew about this?” I asked, surprised.
Luke nodded.
“How did Alex manage to get hold of so many?” I asked, lifting a small card from the flowers. “It is not rose season.”
“Alpha has his ways,” Luke said, smiling.
I turned the card around, reading the neat handwriting on the back.
“I’m sorry,” the card read. “Will you forgive me?”
“What’s this all about?” I asked, waving the card in the air.
Luke sighed and shifted his weight to both his feet. He looked a bit uncomfortable saying something, yet after a moment of hesitation, he decided to tell me.
“Alpha feels embarrassed about scaring you earlier. He didn’t mean to lose control,” he said. “He would like to apologize.”
Luke gestured to a huge white box left on the chair. How did I miss that?
“What’s that?” I asked, even more surprised.
“Take a look,” Luke said, a smile tucking at the corners of his lips.
What was it with Luke? He seemed to be curious about my reaction.
I slowly gathered the box in my arms, surprised at the weight inside, and placed the box on the bed.
I hesitated for a moment.
“Go on,” Luke urged. “I promise nothing will jump out of the box and scare you.”
I rolled my eyes at Luke, hearing him chuckling as I removed the lid.
The top was covered up with paper, and I gently removed the crisp paper out of the way. I gasped in awe upon seeing the contents.
“No way!” I said, lifting the beautiful and delicate three-tone blue chiffon dress from the box. “How the hell did you pull this off?” I asked in wonder.
“Alpha… has connections,” Luke said, biting his lip.
I guess he had something to do with the dress part.
I turned the dress over, seeing that it was my size, and turned to look at myself in the full-length mirror.
“Its stunning,” I muttered in awe. “But I can’t accept this.”
Luke came closer, and I shifted my gaze to look back at him through the mirror.
“Luna,” he said. “I suggest you accept the gift. It would mean the world to Alpha Alex.”
“This is too much, Luke,” I muttered. “I can’t accept such an expensive gift. I am the one who angered him. I should be the one to apologize!”
Luke simply smiled.
“What?” I snapped.
“Nothing,” Luke said. His smile was broadening.
“Luke!” I growled, and I turned to look at him.
“The Alpha would surely be disappointed if he could not see you in that dress tonight,” Luke said, pulling his lips into a pout and going toward the exit. “I will advise him of your decision not to want the dress. He would really feel-”
Oh no, Alex wanted me to wear the dress tonight.
“Wait!” I said with a sigh, looking down at the dress.
“Yes?” Luke said, raising his eyebrows with an amusing look on his face. I went closer and raised my gaze to meet his.
“I’ll wear the dress,” I said, poking Luke in the chest. His golden eyes darkened out of amusement. “For him, of course, but you need to return the dress to the store tomorrow.”
“Very well, Luna,” Luke said, a teasing smile following on his lips. “In that case, I would leave you to get ready.”
Luke stopped at the exit and shifted his gaze over his shoulder as he grabbed the door handle.
“Just for interest’s sake,” he said. “Alpha is expecting you to be ready at 7 p. m.”
My gaze snapped toward the clock on the wall, and my eyes grew wide. I have only 20 minutes to get ready.
“Then you had better get out!” I groaned. “Or else I will disappoint your Alpha!”
“I’ll send someone to attend to your makeup and hair!” Luke said as he closed the door.
I grabbed my towel and rushed to the bathroom, knowing I only had a few minutes to get ready.
Excitement and adrenaline were flowing through my veins. It seems like I will be having our first date!
I looked at the bath, shaking my head. I wanted to take a long, hot bath to soak in the water, but it would make me late.
I quickly got in the shower, not waiting for the water to run warm.
I sighed as I scrubbed myself from Michael’s blood.
My mind started to drift off, remembering Michael’s horrified expression when Alex ripped his throat out.
It wasn’t Michael’s execution that bothered me much; it was Alex.
Something inside him had changed; I had never seen him so ruthless and cold.
Was that because of me?
Was I changing him into a cold-blooded Alpha?
I shivered under the warm water, shaking my thoughts off. Alex had always been kind-hearted; maybe everything was just too much, and he was suppressing his emotions.
I yelled out of fright when a knock on the bathroom door suddenly echoed through the bathroom.
“Sorry, Luna,” a female’s voice came from the door. She must have heard me yell out of fear. “I didn’t mean to frighten you. Beta Luke sent me, and he asked me to come assist you.”
“I’m almost done,” I called back, feeling my heart racing in my chest. “Give me a minute!”
Five minutes later, I walked out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around me, and my gaze immediately landed on the girl whom Luke sent.
“Evening Luna,” the girl said when the bathroom door opened, keeping her eyes on her hands.
“Sasha?” I whispered, surprised.
I didn’t expect Luke to send her up. She couldn’t even make proper eye contact with me. She was now so timid. The Sasha I remember was self-confident and loud.
Was she acting like that because of me?
Was she afraid that I would reject her like she did me?
Or was she acting like that because of her wolf?
“Yes, Luna,” she said, nodding shyly and gesturing for me to sit on the chair at the dresser.
I took a seat, and Sasha started brushing my hair.
Sarah looked in agony. Was it hard for her to tend to me?
“Are you okay?” I asked, feeling a bit uncomfortable.
“I’m fine, Luna,” she said with a sigh. “It’s just-”
My gaze caught hers in the mirror, and her eyes flickered between her green-colored eyes and black. Her wolf was trying to take control.
“What’s wrong?” I asked. “Why is your wolf fighting for control?”
Sasha closed her eyes, taking a deep breath.
“My wolf is fond of yours,” she said. “I am not sure why. It is hard to explain, but it is as if she feels happy near you.”
Willow got closer, finding Sasha’s remark interesting.”
“Tell her to let her wolf take control,” Willow said.
“Are you sure?” I asked, worried. “Alex said she has issues with her wolf.”
“I know,” Willow said. “But maybe we can help her. It is a full moon tomorrow night after all.”
What was Willow planning, and will we succeed in helping Sasha and her wolf?
