“Hello?” May picked the call for she was the one who received and it was a new number.
They had expected that when people started watching the live broadcast, those who knew Macy like the Philips family would start calling her and as such, Macy left her phone with May.
At this time, Richard had already arrived and he was standing next to May outside the room where Macy and Angela were as they watched what was happening on the phone.
“Hello, I want to talk to Macy please,” Andy said when he realized that the one who had received his call wasn’t Macy.
“She isn’t available at the moment,” May answered and as she was about to hang up, she heard the name.
“Tell her it’s Andy,” Andy said and May looked at Richard.
“Who is it?” Richard asked.
“Andy,” May said simply and she put the phone on Richard’s outstretched hand.
“Hello?” Richard said as he put the phone to his ear. “Who is this?” Richard asked though he already knew it was.
“I am the one who should be asking you that question. Who are you and why do you have Macy’s phone?” Andy asked feeling a certain kind of pain he couldn’t put a finger on.
He didn’t understand what was hurting him was jealousy over Macy having a man or the fact that he had found out that Angela wasn’t the woman he thought she was.
“I am her husband. My wife isn’t available at the moment and I will ask her to call you back when she is less busy,” Richard said and hang up the phone.
“The nerve of him to call her after everything he did to her!” Richard mumbled and May looked at him.
“What?” She asked but Richard just shrugged and pretended not to have said anything.
On the other side, Andy was looking at his phone as if he hadn’t heard well.
He thought that he hadn’t heard the other man well and wondered who he was because his voice didn’t sound familiar.
“Husband? When the hell did she get married?” Andy asked no one in particular and e he dialed the number again.
He needed to be sure that he hadn’t heard wrongly and he also needed to convince himself that the man on the other side of the phone was just pulling his leg.
The phone rang for a while but the call wasn’t received.
He tried two more times and it was as if the other person had decided not to receive his calls anymore.
He decided a text, maybe, they would answer that one.
‘Macy, when did you get married and why did you not tell me?’ was the text he typed and sent and it was replied within a very short period of time and eh was also surprised.
‘And why would I tell you? Are you family?’ was the answer.
He felt like he had been hit by a boulder and he sat down with a sigh.
He was walking round the room in circles not knowing what to do.
He looked at Angela’s nonchalant face and wondered why she was speaking so much.
Andy was hurt but he realized that he never really knew Angela and he was kind of grateful that this happened because he would have been a fool to stay with her.
She was speaking nonstop adding to the list of crimes she was confessing to and his phone rang.
He looked at it quickly hoping that it was Macy who was calling back but it was his mother.
“Mom?” He answered in a scruffy voice and cleared his throat.
He hadn’t realized that this whole matter and what he was watching was affecting him.
“Where are you?” His mother asked with worry in her voice.
“Home,” he answered simply because he didn’t want to talk.
If he talked about what was happening, it would then become real and there was a part of him that was still hoping that all this was just a bad nightmare.
“Come home,” his mother ordered in a voice that brooked no argument.
“No, mom…. I…” he started thinking of an excuse but his mother interrupted.
“I don’t care. Come home now. Your father and I are waiting. And if that family calls you, don’t pick up.
Call your driver and come here,” his mother ordered and hang up the phone.
Andy didn’t want to go home.
In fact, he didn’t want to go anywhere.
He wanted to just sleep it off after drinking himself to unconsciousness.
But, he also knew that as a CEO of a company, he couldn’t do that.
He needed to go and talk to his dad so that they could strategize on how to deal with the board and the shareholders because they knew that the issue of Angela, who was Andy’s wife, was going to affect them big time.
His parents’ strategy was to detach themselves from the Philips and have nothing to do with them.
As much as Andy wished that he would rather forget Angela and everting she was saying by drinking himself silly or even running away from there, he also knew that he was the CEO of a company and he needed to protect his company and the jobs of all those looked up to him.
He called his driver and went to the bathroom to freshen up and within ten minutes, he was dressed in s suit and there was a knock on the door.
He picked up his briefcase and walked outside where the driver took the briefcase from him and they both went downstairs.
He was embarrassed to even meet his parents because he knew they, especially his mother, would blame him for what Angela had done.
His mother was against his relationship with Angela because she was always a big fan of Macy.
She always said that Macy behaved like a lady and she was the one who was pushing Andy to get married to Macy and when he went and told her that he and Macy had broken up and that he was getting married to Angela because she was pregnant for him, his mother didn’t speak to him for a month.
“Mom, you should listen to me. Macy did something unforgivable and I relay can’t be with her,” he had tried talking to his mom but she just sneered.
“So what? You think your dad and I have been together for twenty five years because we do not fight?
We fight and each of us has our shortcomings and what we do is talk it out and forgive each other and we move on.
So, you think Angela is the angel who will never let you down?” His mother had asked him and sneered as she left him standing there.
But even if he wanted to leave Angela, he couldn’t as she was already pregnant for him.
He had gone to the hospital with her and seen the little lump in her belly and the doctor told them that the baby was very healthy.
It was a very warm feeling and Andy was eager for the day he and Angela would become parents and he was hurt when he heard Angela on the big TV tell Macy of how she aborted the pregnancy and blamed it on stress.
“How many lies has she ever told me for all the years we have been together?” Andy wondered aloud as his mind went back to all the years he had spent with Angela and all the things they had planned for their future.
“She doesn’t even love me, did she ever plan to have a baby with me?” Andy wondered and the driver, who was pretending not to hear him talk to himself, shook his head as he pitied his young boss.
They all knew what was happening but they couldn’t broach the subject with him for it wasn’t their position to do so.
They thus just pitied him silently and even when he was leaving the house, they all behaved as if all was normal.
They wondered if their madam boss would come back to the house and if she did, how they would treat her.
They all couldn’t believe that the madam who always smiled at them and knew all their names and always asked them how their families were was such kind of a person.
“Hey, I now know the true meaning of the saying ‘a wolf in sheep’s clothing’,” a maid had said as they all sat in the kitchen watching the live broadcast on their phones.
“We are here sir,” the driver said as he pulled into the driveway of the big mansion.
“Should I wait for you?” The driver asked the man who looked like he was in a trance as he opened the car door.
“No. I am sure that I am going to spend the night here. Take the car and go back.
I will call you tomorrow morning if I would need to go to the office,” Andy said as he took the briefcase handed to him and walked towards the main house where his mother opened the door and ran towards him.
