Richard and Asher both stopped but did not look at the woman.
“Are you very hungry?” She asked Richard asked his brother seriously ignoring what she was saying.
He treated her like she was air.
“Yes, I didn’t have a chance to take lunch,” Asher replied getting what his brother was doing.
“Okay. Let’s go eat and rest, we will return again tomorrow,” Richard said and took two steps towards the door.
“Please, please I beg you.
If you take that money, my mother will die.
I will tell the truth.
Anything you want to know,” the woman shouted with all her bravery gone.
She was not the composed woman of a few minutes ago who was wearing a courageous facade.
“Talk,” Richard said still standing near the door as he turned slowly to face her.
“My mother…. *sniff, sniff* my mother is very sick.
She has been diagnosed with stage two colon cancer and she is bedridden since she can’t sit or stand.
She needs an urgent surgery and my insurance is not enough to cover her.
I told it to my director, Ian Sanders, and that’s when he came up with the idea.
I was asking for a loan for her surgery and he told me that he will talk to the school’s board and he will give me the feedback.
He later, after a week, called me to his office and told me that the school board of directors had decided to give me a loan of sixty thousand dollars and I was asking for two hundred thousand.
Sixty thousand wouldn’t be able to cater for all her medical expenses which included therapy and hiring a nurse.
You see, it’s just me and her and my little sister and if I lose her… *cry cry* if I lose her… I cannot… *sniff*
Anyway, I let him know that and he gave me an idea.
That day, he said, Melvin’s mom would come to pick her and I was to allow her.
If I did, I would be given a million dollars.
A million dollars was like heaven come down to me because it was more than I needed.
I would be able to take care of my mom’s medical bills and hire a nurse and it was free. It wasn’t a loan.
All I had to do was give Melvin to her mother and I thought why not? It was hwr mother.
I thought that it was the case where people divorce and you took the child because you were rich.
But I regretted it the moment I saw how she treated Mel.
That was why when Ms Smith came, I told her the direction the vehicle went to and the registration number.
I knew there was a reason why you didn’t mention her among those allowed to pick Mel.
I have seen many people and she didn’t look like a good person,” the teacher said all the whole crying and snorting.
As she spoke, every message that would ding indicating the transfer of a thousand dollars would make her scream louder.
She couldn’t believe that her money was gojbg just like that.
“Then, why did it take long for them to pay you?” Asher asked.
“Mr Sanders, Ian, came and told me that the plan didn’t go well and I won’t get paid.
I argued with him that it wasn’t upon me to make the plan work.
I had played my part.
My mother was getting worse and I told him that if he doesn’t pay me, I would tell you that he was involved.
I had recorded our conversation and I sent it to my friend whom he doesn’t know.
I told him that if anything happened to me or my family, my friend would send the voice noted to you Mr Armstrong.
That was why I was paid and took my mom to the hospital.
As we speak, she’s undergoing the operation and that’s where I was going when I was taken,” she said and continued crying as she held her phone tightly.
Neither Richard nor Ash said anything for a while as they all thought of what they had heard.
“You should have told us their plans and we would have taken care of your mother,” Asher said.
“Would you have beloved me?” The woman asked Asher as she lifted her head to look at him.
“I thought of it at first but I didn’t have evidence at the time.
I only recorded when he was refusing to pay me because I needed insurance.
He didn’t know as I repeated everything and led him to repeat the deal,” she said.
“Can we hear it?” Asher.
“Of course,” she said as she went to hand Asher her phone and anotheressage dinged.
She cried and looked at asher with pleading eyes.
Asher looked at Richard who gave him the look of ‘don’t you dare’.
Asher opened her phone gallery and found the voice recording.
” Mr Sanders, the deal was to give Melvin Armstrong to her mother and I did.
You were to give me a million dollars for my mother’s treatment.
So, why aren’t you honoring your part?” The teacher’s voice asked.
“Ms Aim, I already told you that the deal didn’t go as planned.
I lost a lot of money and I can’t afford to pay you.
“Please? Then just give me the two hundred thousand the hospital asked for?” She pleaded.
“I can only advance you the sixty thousand loan the board approved.
” But I gave young Ms Armstrong them,” the teacher was now crying.
“Yes. I know. The deal was for you to guve Melvin to Cassandra and I was to give you a million dollars.
But, like I said, the deal was aborted because Richard found out though I wonder how.
Now, there is no money.
Remember we were even to donate a colon to your mother from… Never mind.
All I’m saying is, I can’t give you the money,” Ian said and there was a prolonged silence until asher thought of that that was the end.
“And Ms Aim, not a word of this to anyone or else, you won’t know what happened to your family,” Ian said and the recording ended.
“After that, that’s when I went, sent the clip to my friend and instructed her on what to do and then went and faced Ian again yesterday.
That’s why he wired me the money today.
I’m so sorry Mr Armstrong.
So sorry,” she cried and Richard looked at his men.
“Let her go,” he then walked out without another word and Asher followed.
“Brother, just like that?” He asked.
“What? Should I kill her?
Like she said, she saved Mel by telling Macy where she was.
If she didn’t, by the time I thought of looking at the tracker, Mel could have been dead.
I owe her that.
Stop the transfer,” he said and Asher took out his laptop as they sat in Richard’s car and after that he looked at Richard.
“Brother, about…,” why are you in my car?” Richard interrupted him.
“You said you will take me to dinner,” Asher lamented with a pout.
“I changed my mind.
Sent me the information you have about the boy you said,” Richard said and Asher couldn’t be happier.
“Right away. Thank you big Bro.
Drive home safely,” Asher said as he got off Richard’s car.
Richard drove away and two vehicles full of body guards followed him.
Asher was left with the rest and he knew he had a lot of work to do.
As he was being driven back to work, he was looking all over for dirt on the Sanders.
He would give them what they deserved.
He would have forgiven them for touching either him or Richard but touching his niece wasn’t allowed.
That was the only mistake they did.
Touching his niece.
As he was driving home, Asher got a call from Cash telling him that they had caught the men who were after him.
Apparently, it was just a small local gang that had been lied to that it was just a jest.
When they were interrogated to mention their boss, they said that they didn’t see him as he wore a mask and they were paid in cash.
“Did you get the cash?” Asher asked.
“Yes. But they are all new bank notes.
I don’t think we will get any fingerprints,” said Cash said reading Asher’s thoughts.
That was a dead end but Asher was sure that it was the sanders.
They might have figured that Asher was onto them from the transfers on teacher Aim’s bank account.
It gave it away because the money was being donated to a hospital recently opened by the Armstrongs.
But that was what Asher wanted.
He wanted them to be a know that they knew and that he was control.
Otherwise, he would have taken the money to an untraceable bank account.
He feared for the teacher now and he ordered some of his people to trail her until they took care of the Sanders.
