Macy was left with a lot of thoughts.
Yes, she understood that Angela was after her life but she loved that it wasn’t anything she couldn’t handle.
She was ready ever since she decided to leave for home from China. She was ready to handle her so-called family and all.
What she hadn’t banked on was meeting Richard. The first young master to the Armstrong empire.
At first, Macy didn’t even know who he was and she had to do her research after meeting him at the hospital for the first time after seeing him with Asher and seeing how Asher worshipped him.
Asher was a very well known figure in DC for he was in the entertainment industry and headed one of the entertainment industries in the state.
Thus, when Macy found out who he was and saw how mysterious he was, she didn’t know how to behave.
She thus did what she could do in such a situation: hide and make sure never to meet with him again.
She couldn’t afford to offend the likes of Richard. No.
What she hadn’t planned for was Melvin getting attached.
She loved children and she couldn’t deny melvin anything. She had fallen in love with the small angel the moment she saw her.
She thus decided to stay close to Mel but make sure to stay out of Richard’s way.
But now, Richard was asking, no, in fact demanding that she move to his house.
He didn’t give her a chance to say anything. He seems to have made the decision by himself.
But thinking about it, she would be safer here. She knew that for a fact.
Also, this would keep her out of Angela’s way and she could plan her things better.
Even though it was going to be hard living with Richard and staying out of his way, she was going to do it but because she was sure that it would be good for her.
She was thinking of all this as she helped Melvin change and Melvin was ecstatic when she saw that she was wearing similar clothes to Macy.
“Aunt, we look like twins,” she said with excitement and then held her chin.
“No. You are too old to be my twin. We look like mother and daughter. Isn’t it auntie?” She asked while looking at Macy hopefully and Macy couldn’t break that little heart.
“Really? You think so?” Macy asked as she picked Melvin and walked with her outside the room and downstairs.
“Yes. Yes we do,” Mel nodded her little head and Macy laughed.
“Where do you want to go today?” Macy asked and looked at the little girl as she placed her down at the end of the stairs.
“Mall. Let’s go to the mall,” Mel said with excitement as she jumped up and down.
“Wait here. Let me ask,” Macy said and walked outside.
Richard had said that he would add to her guards detail and she knew that she couldn’t risk Mel’s life.
She thus walked outside and talked to the first man she saw at the door.
“Excuse me sir. Can Mel and I go to the mall?” She asked the small man who didn’t look like a guard at all.
But in her life, especially after she was sent to Africa and then went to Asia, she had learnt never to judge anyone by how they looked.
“Of course ma’am. But since you are taking the little miss with you, we have to accompany you,” he said and Macy smiled.
“Okay. But can I please request that you don’t follow us everywhere so as not to frighten other people in the mall?” She asked and looked hopefully at the man.
“Of course. You won’t even know that we are there,” he said and Macy smiled.
By the time Macy and Melvin were getting out of the house, three vehicles were waiting for them and they were ushered to the one in the middle.
She didn’t mind because she knew that it was all for Melvin’s sake.
She had two days off and she was going to spend it with Melvin.
“So, what do you want to do in the mall?” Macy asked the little girl.
“Go to the play park,” Melvin started.
“But you have a play park at home,” Macy argued.
“But there aren’t any other children there,” Melvin countered.
“Okay. That makes sense. Go on,” Macy said.
“Eat ice-cream, eat pizza, buy clothes,” Melvin listed and Macy laughed.
“So, you are going to eat all the things nurse Lin says not to eat because she is not here?” Macy asked with a knowing smile.
Melvin nodded her head with a giggle as she hid her mouth in her palm and she looked so cute that Macy couldn’t help but bend down and kiss her brow as she also laughed lovingly.
Within no time, they were in the mall and like the guards had said, it was like they weren’t there. Macy couldn’t see any of them except the shirt one who was following them but at a distance.
She didn’t mind as long as she and Mel enjoyed themselves.
“So, where to start?” Macy asked.
“Ice-cream. Let’s start with ice cream auntie,” Mel said and Macy wondered what to do.
“Okay. I will get you a small ice cream as long as you promise me that after playing, lunch will be a healthy meal and then we get pizza to go. Okay?” Macy asked.
“Deal,” Mel said as she ran to the first ice-cream shop she could see.
After they bought ice-cream, they sat to eat it and Mel enjoyed it so much.
Due to her sickness, she couldn’t just eat anything and her diet was controlled by nurse Lin and her father.
But Macy had consulted with nurse Lin and she had said that Mel was getting better d she could be indulged a little.
After the ice-cream, they went to the park and Macy was like a child with Mel.
They went for rides, though Macy was careful not to go for dangerous ones for she knew Mel’s body couldn’t handle it yet, and then went for games.
They played all types of games and Macy actually won two dolls for Mel.
After that, they sat for lunch.
They went to a restaurant just inside the mall that had a children’s corner.
They ordered a healthy meal with a salad and milk. They ordered a little rice porridge, fish fillets, lettuce and tomato salad and a glass of milk.
The food had been cooked very well and Mel really enjoyed it.
After lunch, they went shopping.
Macy had noticed that Mel had clothes only fit for a boy. She guessed it was because she was brought up by a man and he bought trousers, shirts and T-shirts for a boy and only a few dresses.
She thus wanted to go and buy a few dresses for Mel with the little money she had saved.
She loved the girls and now that she would be living with the family, it was time she started treating Mel like a daughter. And in fact, she already was.
They thus browsed a few shops until they noticed a shop that had girl children clothes only and they went inside.
They browsed and Macy chose a few dresses for Mel to try on and she did.
They chose those because her budget was tight and Mel couldn’t have been happier.
She was skipping all over with her doll because they had given the guard the bigger doll and the dresses they had bought.
As they were walking, wondering what to do next, they saw a shop for men’s suits.
“Auntie, let’s buy something for daddy,” Mel said as she pulled Macy inside the shop.
Macy had noticed that Richard only wore black suits. He never had anything of colour and the only bright colour he had was grey.
Macy saw a very nice royal blue suit that was fitted with a very nice shirt and tie.
She looked at it and saw that it cost ten thousand dollars.
She sighed because even if she wanted to appreciate the man, she didn’t have that much money in her account.
This was because since she came back, Julia only made sure that she didn’t get any good jobs.
She only appeared in small budget movies that only paid a little.
What they didn’t know was that Macy was a survivor.
They did that expecting Macy to fall down but she didn’t. She had so many skills and she did side jobs that included car racing for money.
And she always won.
Thrilling games and taking risks was her thing.
As she scrutinised the suit regretting that she didn’t have enough to pay for it, she heard a voice behind her.
“Oh, Macy? What are you doing in a men’s shop? Do you intend to get a man using a present?” It was Angela and three of her minions.
Macy turned and smiled, a very bright smile that would have fooled anyone into thinking that she and Angela were the best of friends.
“No Angela. If I wanted to get a man, I would do it the way you did.
Just open my legs and walah!” Macy said the last sentence silently and close to Angela’s ear so that Mel wouldn’t catch it but everyone else did.
She turned and saw that Mel was busy looking at a pink shirt and she hadn’t heard what Macy had said.
“Baby, come, let’s go,” Macy called to the young girl who looked at her surprised.
“Auntie, why are we leaving? We haven’t bought anything for daddy,” Mel answered and all the four girls stopped and looked at Mel.
Angela didn’t know what to say.
She was angry at what Macy had said to her but she was surprised at who this daughter was.
“Macy? Did you kidnap a child?” Angela accused and looked at the other girls.
Macy braced herself because she already knew that look.
Trouble was on its way.
But she wasn’t worried because her middle name was trouble.
She smiled slyly and looked at Angela.
