Chapter Forty-Six
Fiona’s POV:
“Hi,” I greeted them.
“Miss Fiona, there is a video circulating the internet of you being assaulted by Mr. Alexander Harrington,” the woman told me.
“We know that this is not an easy phase, but you can trust us and tell us the truth,” the woman said.
“We will help you,” she told me.
“I have said this, and I will be telling you again. Alexander Harrington did not assault me,” I replied.
“Besides, that video is fake. It is about time you all started doing your job well,” I said.
“Miss Fiona, maybe you are under a lot of tension, but I need you to trust us and open up to us,” the woman said.
“How well do you want me to explain this to you? My fiancé loves me so much, and I do too,” I said.
“There is no way he is going to hit me,” I said.
“Your fiancé?” the woman asked.
“But we did not hear anything about your engagement,” the woman said.
“Yeah, and that is because we are private people, and we love our privacy,” I told her.
“We are investigating this case, and we will be here anytime soon for further questioning,” she said.
“Thank you for your time, Miss Fiona,” she said while they all left.
“That was great,” Uncle Victor said as he clapped.
“What did he notice?” I asked myself as I was gripped with fear.
“Fiona, I heard everything you told those people. You are such a genius,” he told me.
“This was one reason I wanted Alexander to be your husband, because you are too intelligent to be left alone,” he told me.
“Yes, Uncle,” I replied as I forced a smile.
“This will be the last time he will ever raise his hands on you, because just look at how we are being harassed by all these people,” Uncle Victor told me.
“I would do anything for you, Uncle,” I told him.
“I will be in my room,” I said as I left my room.
“Fiona, what is this news circulating on the internet?” Mother came to ask me in panic.
“I don’t know,” I replied.
“Don’t tell me that and wait, is that a black eye?” Mother asked as she moved closer.
“No,” I said as I tried to wear a dark spectacle.
“Do not annoy me, Fiona,” Mother said in rage.
“What have they done to you or told you that you could not tell the police?” Mother asked me while I was silent.
“We are going to leave this place, immediately,” she said.
“And where do you think you are taking her to?” Uncle Victor asked.
He has been listening to our conversation.
“I am taking her out of here. To a place where you and that monster you call a son will never see her,” Mother said.
“No!” I interrupted.
“If you want to leave, then you can go but no one is going to come in between me and Alexander,” I told her.
“For God’s sake, the marriage has not yet started, and you are all starting to interfere,” I said angrily.
“Fiona!” Mother said in disappointment.
“Can’t you see, or what have they done to you? Did they threaten you?” she asked.
“I think it is high time you stopped interfering in my business. Besides, you are not my mother,” I told her.
Mother was in tears already. I could not stand seeing her, so I left the room immediately.
Eleanor called me by evening.
“Girl,” she said over the phone.
“I saw your interview,” she said.
“You are a genius, Fiona,” she said happily over the phone.
“The Harrington’s did not see this coming,” she added.
“Sure, they didn’t,” I replied.
We spoke over the phone for hours, then we hung up.
Preparations for the wedding were still ongoing but were on low.
Uncle Victor’s POV:
“You have put yourself in deep trouble,” I told Alexander.
“The police stopped by to interrogate Fiona. But you should be thankful that she did not let the cat out of the bag,” I added.
“What if they come to discover that she was not telling the truth?” Alexander asked me.
“Help me, Dad. I do not want to go to jail,” Alexander said, panicking.
“I would not let that happen. Besides, the high-ranking cops in this city are on my team,” I explained.
“I am so grateful Dad,” Alexander said.
The next day, I had a meeting with one of the most influential cops in the city, Derrick.
“I am so happy to see you, Vic,” he said as he hugged me.
“It has been a long time, bro,” he told me.
“What is this news going around about your son and Lawson’s daughter?” he asked me.
“That is my reason for calling this meeting. Alexander has messed up,” I said.
“Real bad,” I added.
“Some police officers were at the house earlier today to ask questions but thank God for Fiona that she did not let the cat out of the bag,” I told him.
“They also said that they would be investigating the whole issue and would be back shortly,” I explained.
“Hmm,” Derrick sighed.
“That is not a problem. I would make sure this issue is swept under the carpet,” he assured me.
“Thank you, a lot,” I said.
“It is fine,” he said.
“But this should be his last time,” Derrick added.
“He would not repeat his actions. Besides, he deeply regrets his actions,” I said.
We later ended the conversation; did some catch up and went our separate ways.
Fiona’s POV:
Mother seems to be so angry with me. She has not even spoken a word to me.
“Mother, where are you going?” I asked as I saw her packing.
“Mom,” I called again but she ignored me.
“Mo…” I said before she interrupted.
“I am leaving, so you and your husband Alexander would be happy,” she said.
“But the wedding is in a few days,” I told her.
“Yeah, and I am not stopping you,” she said.
“But you have them already, be a happy child,” she replied without even looking at me.
“Safe trip, mother,” I said, and I ran off to my room.
“This has been one of the toughest times of my life, but it has to be the end,” I said to myself tearfully.
