Chapter Thirty-Seven
Fiona’s POV:
“I pray that he gets here sooner than we expect,” I told Mother.
“Me too,” she replied.
“I would not spare this police station and all the people in it when I get out,” I told Mother.
“What are you planning to do, Fiona?” my mother asked me.
“We are going through a lot of trouble already,” she added.
“That would not cause any problem. I would not be hurting anybody but be fighting for justice,” I assured Mother as she started to panic.
“I hope so,” she said as we waited for the lawyer to come.
Uncle Victor’s POV:
“That boy Damian is still walking free,” I complained to Evans.
“We are working on his master,” Evans told me.
“But it has been close to a month since he kidnapped me, and you are still working on it?” I asked him.
“I cannot even move around freely again out of fear,” I told him.
“You need to be fast about it before he outplays us again,” I warned Evans as I hung up.
Fiona’s POV:
After sitting for three hours in the police station, the lawyer arrived.
“I guess the lawyer is here,” Mother announced as soon as her phone beeped.
“I would meet him immediately,” Mom told me and she left to meet him.
Mother came into the room. I was followed by the lawyer and Whitman.
“You did tell me you told me that you were in town,” I told him.
“I rushed in when I got a call from my mother about the arrest,” Whitman told me.
“Yes,” mother affirmed.
“He also helped me with getting the lawyer,” Mother said to me.
“I need you to stay calm, Fiona. We would get to the root of this, and you would be out in no time,” Whitman told me.
“Done,” the lawyer said as Whitman followed him into the room.
“Thank you so much,” I told Whitman, hugging him.
“I guess there was a mix-up somewhere. We are sorry for any inconvenience we caused you,” the policewoman apologized to us.
“You do not need to be sorry,” I told her.
“Y’all will hear from me,” I added as we left the police station.
We got home and everywhere was a mess because of the incident that happened before we left for the hospital.
“I would go check up on Thomas. He has been all to himself today,” I told them as I got to his room.
“Fiona!” I heard as I entered.
“Thomas!” I exclaimed in joy.
Thomas was sitting in the bed, with his eyes wide open.
“Oh my God,” I said happily.
“It feels so good seeing you have recovered,” I said, hugging him tight.
“You all come to see this,” I called the others.
“What is the problem, Fiona?” my mother asked me.
“There is no problem here, mother. It is good news,” I told her.
“Good God!” the mother exclaimed as she saw Thomas.
“Aunty Veronica,” Thomas said as he hugged her.
“It is good to have your back,” Mother told him.
“Finally, I can talk to all of you in reality and not in my head anymore,” Thomas said with a faint smile.
“But where are we?” Thomas asked.
“This place looks different from the other house,” Thomas asked us.
“It is a long story, Thomas,” I told him.
“We would save that for another time,” I assured him.
“Have you heard from Uncle Victor?” Thomas asked me that evening.
“No, I do not want to,” I told him.
“The reason for coming into this small town is because your Uncle Victor would not stop till he sees us beneath him,” I explained to Thomas.
“You know how vile he is,” I added.
“I regret ever working and making an alliance with him,” Thomas told me.
“Yeah, we all have regrets at some point in life,” I replied to Thomas.
“It is the lessons learned that make us better people,” I added.
“Besides, do you like this house?” I asked Thomas, smiling.
“Yes, it is beautiful,” he replied.
“And big too,” he added.
“It is all ours,” I said smiling.
“Are you serious?” Thomas asked with surprise.
“It is even more beautiful than Uncle Victor’s house,” he said, giggling.
“I want to be here forever. It feels so peaceful here,” he said again.
“Uh, where did you get the money from?” Thomas asked me.
“Dad’s company,” I replied.
“Seriously?” Thomas asked me as his face dropped.
“Hey, do not look at me like that. We are never going to go broke,” I told him.
“Besides we have enough and plans to sustain us. I got you,” I assured him.
“I trust you, Fiona,” Thomas told me.
Whitman and the lawyer left that same day because they both had work to do.
It was painful seeing him leave but there was nothing I was capable of doing and bade them farewell and we parted ways.
“Do you still love him?” Thomas asked me as I got into the house.
“Yeah, I still do,” I told him.
“But Alexander happened,” I added, rolling my eyes.
“The press people around here are so crappy,” Mother said from the inner room.
“What is the problem, mother?” I asked her.
“Come look at this,” she told me.
“Oh, that was fast,” she said again.
“Imagine how fast they act now but do less when it has to do with getting justice,” I blurted out.
“That is not even my problem now. But these people are giving us out,” Mother complained.
“Just look at the headline,” she said.
“The unjust arrest of Fiona Lawson: A mistaken identity,” mother read the headline.
“When I thought I was running away from everything now,” I said angrily.
“Boom!” I heard a loud bang on the door.
“Who is that?” Mother asked silently as our eyes widened with fear.
“Fiona, help Thomas to his room,” mother said.
“Be fast and be careful about it,” Mother advised as the door went wide open.
“She is not here,” I heard my mother say.
“You would want to check the other apartment,” mother suggested.
“Get out of my way, old woman,” the voice said as I tried to enter Thomas’s room.
“There is no need for that,” the voice said.
“Hi, Fiona,” he said, grinning from ear to ear as I turned.
It was Alexander.
