Chapter Thirty-Five
Fiona’s POV:
“You got to chill man,” Jessica told the man again.
“It isn’t going to do nothing like that,” the man said furiously.
“You know what?” the man said to Jessica again.
“Hand me over my money. Now!” he commanded her.
“I am doing no such thing,” Jessica told him.
“One of my conditions is you make part payment and I show you the photos,” Jessica replied to the man.
“The only reason I am not taking the other half now is because she is not here,” Jessica said again.
“So, you think that you can fool me?” the man said angrily with his gun pointing at Jessica.
“I know that you are just threatening, you cannot kill me,” Jessica said.
“You think so,” the man said, already angry.
“When you get to the other side, tell Mama that I miss her,” he said as he pulled the trigger.
My whole body froze instantly as I saw Jessica’s lifeless body on the floor. I could not believe my eyes.
“Let me get out of here before I get myself into trouble,” I said to myself as I exited the premises.
I got home and it was almost freezing. It was really cold outside because we were literally in the woods.
“Fiona, what happened to you?” my mother asked me.
“You are freezing,” she said as she touched my body.
“Thank God you came back safely,” Mother said again.
“I happened too fast,” I kept on saying to myself.
“He killed her,” I said, staring into space.
“Who are you talking about?” my mother asked.
“He killed her,” I muttered again.
“Talk to me,” Mother said, panicking.
“What did they do to you?” she asked, panicking.
Mother kept asking me questions till I became unconscious, and I fell to the ground.
I woke up the next morning and found myself lying in my bed at my mother’s bedside. She was sleeping.
“Mother,” I said as I tapped her.
“Did you sleep sitting on this chair?” I asked her as soon as she woke up.
“How are you feeling sweetheart?” Mother asked me to ignore my questions.
“You came into the house cold yesterday and you fainted afterward,” Mother explained to me.
“Really?” my mother asked me.
“I was scared,” I told her.
“They killed Jessica,” I told her.
“Are you serious? But how?” Mother asked me.
“I never knew she was working for some people all this while,” I told her.
“They gave her money in exchange for me,” I explained to her.
“It got messy when she could not find me and the man who came to get me got angry and he pulled the trigger… which got her killed,” I narrated to my mother.
“Jeez,” mother exclaimed in shock.
“But I wondered who they might be working for,” I added.
“Thank God you came home safe,” mother concluded.
“The other ladies did any of them see you leave the scene?” my mother asked.
“No. I do not think so,” I replied.
“But why do you ask?” I asked her.
“Nothing baby. I am so happy to have your back,” she said, hugging me.
Alexander’s POV:
“What good news do you have for me?” I asked Ken over the phone.
“The woman lied to us,” Ken told me over the phone.
“She did what?” I asked him again.
“I mean she lied to us,” he said.
“You meant she lied to you,” I told Ken, interrupting what he had to say.
“I remember I warned you to be sure of that woman before giving her the money?” I said yelling at him.
“So, what did you do with her?” I asked him.
“She was not cooperating, so I pulled the trigger,” Ken told me.
“You did what?!” I asked him in shock.
“You were meant to lay low, for goodness’s sake,” I told him.
“Now, what if the cops come after you? What would you do?” I asked him.
“Then your whereabouts get burst and my father comes after you once more,” I told Ken.
“Gosh!” I exclaimed helplessly.
“Get off my phone,” I yelled at him and hung up the call.
“Dummy,” I exclaimed.
“I need to get someone else to replace this thing,” I told myself and thought of different ways to go about the case.
Fiona’s POV:
Searching for the perfect person to care for Thomas has been a daunting one.
“It seems that we would be forced to contact the former doctor who introduced Jessica here,” Mother told me.
“Then what if they ask about Jessica?” I asked her.
“By now the news would be everywhere. Besides, the press and the police are very much aware of it,” Mother said to me.
“I guess we would stick to just caring for him for now,” I told her.
“I will make inquiries when I go to get groceries tomorrow,” I assured Mother.
“That would be amazing,” mother replied.
The next day, I got up early to make inquiries about care agencies.
I did what I had to do, and I left home.
“See you once I am done,” I told the mother as she wished me good luck.
“See you soon,” she said as she hugged me.
“Please do you know any reliable care agency that you can refer to me?” I asked the receptionist at the counter.
“I am so sorry,” the receptionist said.
“We do not make recommendations here,” the receptionist added.
“Okay, that is fine,” I replied, and I went to several stores across the street and beyond.
It is 3 p. m. and it does not look like I have made any progress, so I decided to stop by a fast-food place to get something to eat.
I got my order and I started to cool my head then I reached out to get my phone.
I reached out to my phone, and it has tons of missed calls.
“Who is this?” I said.
“Mom,” I said, panicking, discovering that Mom had been calling me, but I put my phone in silence.
I tried calling her back, but it was not connecting.
“I hope she is safe,” I concluded as I walked out.
I prayed silently under my breath for her safety, and Thomas too.
“Mom,” I called out as I got home but the door was locked from the inside, so I could go into the house.
“I would use the backdoor,” I told myself.
