Chapter Twenty-Nine
Alexander’s POV:
“Good morning, Officer Jasmine,” I greeted the officer.
“Good morning, sir,” she replied.
“I did not hear from you again,” I told her.
“Yes. Sorry to inform you but I am not in charge of your case anymore,” she told me.
“My superior has asked me to drop the cases, that he would be working on now,” she explained to me.
“Okay. But can I meet him now?” I enquired.
“Oh, that is his office there,” she said, directing me.
I thanked her and I proceeded to the superior’s office.
“Victor Harrington’s son, I guess?” he said before I could even utter a word.
“Yes,” I answered.
“I guess you are here concerning your father’s kidnap case,” he said again.
“Yes,” I answered him again.
“I am so sorry, but we had to drop that case. You know there is a lot that we have to do,” he told me.
“And the workforce here is low, and we lack enough qualified hands,” he told me.
“What!” I said in surprise.
“Are you trying to tell me that my father’s life is not as important as the work you have to do?” I asked him with rage.
“Oh please, Mr. Alexander,” he said.
“You are trying to quote me out of context. I am not saying that we would not be looking into your father’s case… but…” he tried saying before I cut in.
“But what officer?” I asked him sternly.
“But not now. Maybe you can come back next week, so we can see what we can do about that,” he told me.
“Wow!” I exclaimed.
“Now I cannot believe my ears. You are kidding? Right?” I asked him.
“I am sorry, Mr. Alexander,” he said.
“You should be sorry for yourself,” I said as I banged the door leaving his office.
“What the heck is going on,” I asked as I got into the vehicle.
“What do I do now?” I asked myself.
“I would visit the next police station,” I said to myself and drove off.
Fiona’s POV:
“Victor Harrington should be reaping all that he planted by now,” I said to myself audibly.
“Do not pray badly for your enemies,” Mother replied. She was standing behind me.
“For this particular person, I would be happy to see every bad thing in the world befall him,” I told her.
“After all he has done to me and my family, no. I would not want to see anything good happen to him,” I told her.
“No, that is not right Fiona,” she said.
“Yeah. I know it would not be right to because you did not know what I had to go through when you were away,” I fired back.
“You have been here since I was eight years old, so it is okay if you do not agree with me,” I added.
“Fiona, I didn’t mean to come off as insensitive. I am sorry if I did,” Eleanor apologized to me.
“I am sorry if that was harsh,” I apologized too.
“Hi, sorry to interrupt you now but I will be leaving soon,” the nurse said interrupting us.
“Thank you, Jessica,” I told her.
“See you tomorrow,” Mother said and Jessica left.
Three hours later, there was a knock on the door.
“Who is that?” I asked as I got closer to the door but there was no response.
“Who is…” I tried saying it again but got dumbstruck.
“What are you doing here and how did you find me?” I asked him.
It was Whitman.
“Is that how you would welcome me, Fiona?” he asked.
“You did not even bother to call or even text,” he continued.
“It has been really hard for me,” he told me again.
“How did you find me, Whitman?” I asked him again.
“Whatever we shared is in the past and you know that” I said almost in tears.
“You must be kidding me,” he replied.
“Are you trying to say that we throw away our beautiful relationship like that?” he asked me.
“I never wanted to, but I have to,” I told him.
“You two need to sit and have a good conversation like two adults do,” Mother said from the living room.
She has been eavesdropping.
“I do not think that is important Mum,” I told her.
“I am not asking,” Mother said, insisting.
“Fiona, I missed you so much,” he said while I remained silent.
“You’re not going to say anything?” he asked me again.
“What do you want me to say to you?” I asked.
“Remember, I told you that I could put up the company for sale and we could move together,” Whitman told me.
“And I told you no,” I said.
“There is so much that I do not want to see you roped into,” I said again.
“Just focus on your business and make you and the people around you proud,” I told him.
“I missed you too,” I told him as I held him in an embrace.
“I am also not happy that I left,” I said, almost sobbing.
“But this is one thing that I needed to do,” I told him.
“We can still start all over again, here or… somewhere else,” he told me as I left him.
“No, just leave. For your good,” I said, and I ran to my room.
“It is okay, my child,” Mother patted me on the back.
“It is so hard mother,” I said, sobbing.
“You will be okay,” she said, holding me.
Alexander’s POV:
“Good day, I need to make a report for a kidnap,” I said on entering the police station.
“Okay, you can do that there,” I was directed to a secluded section of the building.
“Okay, can you put down everything you saw, and we will get to action swiftly,” the officer said handing a piece of paper to me.
“Here,” I handed it over to him as soon as I was done.
“Victor Harrington, is he your father?” the officer asked as he went through the information.
“Yes,” I answered him.
“Okay,” he said.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Harrington. I would not be able to work on this at the moment.” He told me.
“But why? You just told me that you get to action immediately after you have the information, so what do you mean now?” I asked in fury.
“This is a matter of life and death, officer,” I added.
“Sorry, Mr. Alexander. But this order is from the top,” he told me.
