Chapter Twenty-Three
Alexander’s POV:
“Al…Alexander.” She stuttered.
“What are you doing with him?” I asked her.
“You can see for yourself.” She answered with no show of remorse.
“Are you kidding me?” I asked in surprise.
“Are you expecting me to dump him like some piece of paper just because I found you?” Fiona asked me with a hand akimbo.
“You and your father forced me into this, so you take whatever you see.” Fiona added as she walked away.
“Are you walking out on me now?” I asked with no response.
“Is this how you repay us?” I yelled as she got out of sight.
I rode back home feeling betrayed. I wondered what father would say if he heard my side of the story.
“Dad, Fiona is trying to play with us.” I told my father as I got into the house.
“What do you mean by that?” Father asked, confused.
“She is still seeing her supposed ex.” I told Dad.
“Whitman?” He asked me.
“Yes dad.” I replied.
“Damn it!” He said in anger.
“I knew that girl would try to outsmart me, same as her father.” Dad told me.
“I know what to do. I will make sure I deal with her severely.” He said as he stormed out in anger.
Fiona’s POV:
“Mom, you need to get to the hospital now. I messed up big time.” I told Veronica over the phone.
“What did you do, Fiona?” Veronica asked me, panicking.
“I will explain everything once you get here.” I answered.
“Okay dear. I will be there in a jiffy.” Veronica said as I hung up.
“Miss Fiona, how are you doing today?” The doctor asked me.
“I am okay, doctor.” I answered.
“I need to see you and your mom in my office,” the doctor said.
“She stepped out, but she will be here soon.” I told him.
I sat somewhere and waited for Veronica to get in.
“Mom.” I said as I saw her enter the hospital.
“The doctor asked to see us but before that, something could have happened while you were away.” I told her.
“What is it because your call had me driving like a lunatic?” She told me.
“Alexander stopped by the hospital today, and…and…” I said.
“And what Fiona? You are making me panic.” Veronica told me.
“He saw me and Whitman kiss outside the hospital.” I told her.
“You did what? Why would you do that when you knew that he was around?” She asked me.
” I didn’t know. I thought he had left.” I explained to her.
“It didn’t end there though. I asked him if he was expecting to dump Whitman just like that.” I added.
“Are you kidding me now, Fiona?” Veronica asked me in surprise.
“You know what? Let us go hear what the doctor has to say.” Veronica told me as we proceeded into the doctor’s office.
“I am sorry we kept you waiting.” I apologized as we got into the office.
“That is not a problem.” He replied.
“We got a new report concerning Thomas’s health and it shows that he is recovering really fast.” The doctor told us.
“Good gracious.” Veronica exclaimed in excitement.
“So, what is the next step, doctor?” I asked him.
“I think it would be better if he moved back home.” He said.
“But that is if you agree, and we will be assigning a healthy person to work with you.” He told us.
“That would be a great idea, doc.” I said with a smile.
“A great idea. Don’t you think it will be best if he is kept under the care of the hospital?” Veronica asked in surprise.
“I think you should discuss it, then give me feedback.” The doctor said as he excused us.
“Why do you think your brother would be safe at home and not the hospital?” Veronica asked me.
“That is not the point mother.” I told her.
“I know Uncle Victor must be planning something disastrous at the moment.” I said.
“I sold all the company’s shares, so now we no longer own the company.” I explained to her.
“I planned on telling you so we can leave the city and go somewhere else, but I did not know how to break the news to you.” I told her.
“Besides, you can’t leave the coffee shop for us, people you barely know.” I told Veronica.
“And you did all of these behind my back, Fiona?” Veronica asked me.
“Do you know how much of a problem this would have caused you if Victor had known earlier?” Veronica asked again with panic written all over her face.
“We need to move Thomas out of here now!” Veronica said.
“Doctor, I think we would want to move him home, but we have a challenge.” Veronica told him.
“What is it? Maybe I can help,” the doctor said.
“We would be moving him to a different city, I don’t know if that would be a problem.” Veronica said.
“Not at all. We would assign someone there to help you.” The doctor assured us.
“But can this information be kept confidential; we would appreciate it.” Veronica asked the doctor.
“That is what the job entails, your secret is safe with us.” The doctor told us.
“Thank you.” We told him as we rushed home to get our stuff ready.
“Do you know where you want us to go?” Veronica asked me.
“I got that figured out already.” I told her.
“I bought a house there last month from the money I made from selling the shares.” I added.
“I am sorry I didn’t let you know about that.” I said.
“When did all these start? I mean, the secrets?” Veronica asked me, folding her arms.
“I am sorry. Besides, I was going to tell you sometime.” I told her.
“That is not an issue. We need to start packing.” Veronica told me.
“Immediately!” She emphasized.
“Mom, I think we have an issue here.” I told her.
“What is it?” She asked.
“The government needs everyone to be indoors starting tomorrow morning.” I said in panic.
“Then that means we need to get out of here today, this evening.” She replied.
“But how?” I asked her.
“We would find a way. Go, go.” Veronica told me.
“Boom!” We heard a loud bang outside.
“Mom, did you hear that?” I asked as I froze in fear.
