Since the morning, Darwin had been busy attending meetings and important discussions with a client. Once he was done, he and Randy, who had been with him from the beginning, decided to return to the Infinix Group building.
Upon arriving in his office, Darwin took a moment to rest his body. He sat down and leaned back in his office chair, then asked his secretary to bring drinks and snacks to share with his cousin.
“Luckily, you know Mr. Andreas well. At least, the tender that was stuck earlier has finally been resolved,” Darwin remarked as he sipped his coffee.
Randy, sitting across from him, looked satisfied. He was pleased that he could once again assist his cousin when needed. In fact, when he was in serious mode like today, he was reliable.
“You’re also strange. Why didn’t you tell me from the beginning?”
“I didn’t know you were close to the owner of CT Corp. If Kennedy hadn’t told me, maybe this tender wouldn’t have reached an agreement, let alone be completed as we hoped.”
Randy nodded. He was thankful that the problem Darwin faced had been resolved in the end.
“Well, next time, if you need my help, just let me know.”
Randy then enjoyed some of the cakes that Darwin’s secretary had placed on the desk. While munching on them, he engaged in conversation with his cousin before excusing himself to return to work.
“By the way, how does it feel to be back with Veronica?”
Darwin raised his head, glanced briefly, and then gave a faint smile.
“It’s just fine.”
“Just fine? Seriously, just fine?” Randy was skeptical.
Just a few days ago, Darwin had seemed restless, almost like a madman, because he couldn’t freely meet Veronica. And now? After being back together, he described their meeting as just fine? It was quite strange.
“Do you think I should be celebrating or something?” Darwin asked curiously.
“Well, you don’t have to do anything extravagant, but your attitude is just odd. Besides, your relationship seems perfectly fine, doesn’t it?”
Darwin nodded. Although there was a slight issue with Veronica, this time he chose not to talk about it. He was reluctant and afraid that it might suddenly affect his mood or performance at work.
“I’m perfectly fine,” Darwin reassured.
In the midst of the conversation between Darwin and Randy, Veronica unexpectedly arrived and approached them. Without any awkwardness, she smiled at Darwin and Randy alternately.
“Am I disturbing your work hours?” she asked while casting a glance at Darwin and Randy.
“No, not at all. Relax,” Randy replied. After saying that, he finished the coffee in his cup, then got up and prepared to leave.
“I’m leaving already because I have a lot of deadlines to meet. You two can continue your conversation.”
“Why are you leaving so soon?” Veronica asked when she saw Randy getting ready to go.
“I’ve been with Darwin since this morning. So, I’m a bit bored and need a change of scenery. Anyway, I’m off now. You two carry on. Besides, I don’t want to disturb a couple in the middle of being affectionate.”
After Randy’s departure, Veronica continued with her intention. She refocused on Darwin and greeted her husband, who appeared to be focused on reading some documents.
“This morning, I was looking for you. I thought we would go to work together,” Veronica cautiously said, secretly hoping that her husband wouldn’t ignore her.
“I was in a hurry,” Darwin replied. His focus remained entirely on the documents in his hand. “Besides, I already left a message with Mba Renata, didn’t I?”
Veronica reflexively nodded.
“Yes, Mba Renata informed me. So, we’ll go home together this evening, right?”
Darwin nodded in response. “Just wait. I’ll pick you up later.”
Veronica smiled. Although she felt a bit uneasy, she was relieved that Darwin still paid attention to what she said.
“Oh, by the way…” Veronica continued after a brief silence. “Tomorrow evening, during the weekend, there’s a farewell event for Sean. Can you accompany me? We’re both invited.”
Hearing Veronica’s words, Darwin closed the documents he had been reading. He looked at his wife for a moment before taking a deep breath and then speaking.
“I can’t accompany you. But if you want to go, go ahead. I won’t stop you.”
“Are you serious about letting me go alone?”
Darwin nodded once.
“You’re an adult. There’s no need for me to forbid you. If you want to attend Sean’s party, go ahead.”
Veronica felt a sense of déjà vu with Darwin’s cold attitude right now. She felt like she had returned to the past when her husband often treated her with indifference, as if they didn’t know each other.
So, was this part of Darwin’s anger since last night? Because usually, Darwin wouldn’t let Veronica go alone, especially to attend an event organized by Sean.
However, not wanting to worsen the situation, Veronica chose to remain silent and not argue. She was well aware that her husband might still be a little angry with her.
“Well then. Have you had lunch?” Veronica deliberately changed the topic of conversation.
“Not yet,” Darwin replied shortly.
“I haven’t either. How about we have lunch together?” Veronica offered.
Darwin shook his head. After tidying up the documents he had been reading, he stood up. Stepping forward, he approached Veronica, who had been standing not far from his desk.
“I don’t plan to have lunch with you, Ve. I still have a lot of work to finish. Right now, I’m even going to meet my next client. So, you should have lunch on your own.”
Without waiting for a response from Veronica, Darwin walked away. Once again, he intentionally left his wife as if he was avoiding any form of contact, be it a meeting or a conversation. And who knows how long Darwin would continue to be cold like this.
