Chapter 83

After successfully bringing Veronica out of Darwin’s residence, Damian finally decided to visit Magnus Walters’s office. He believed that something important and crucial like this needed to be discussed and resolved with his friend.
Fortunately, when he arrived, Magnus was present. Darwin Walters’s father looked slightly surprised because Damian had come unexpectedly without giving him prior notice, as was usually the case.
“Am I interrupting your work hours?” Damian asked after being invited into Magnus’s office.
Magnus immediately invited Damian to take a seat on the sofa. Before starting their conversation, he even asked his secretary to prepare drinks and snacks. Of course, this was done to make their conversation more comfortable.
“No matter how busy or occupied I may be, if you come to visit and discuss something, I will always make time for you, Damian,” Magnus said warmly and sincerely.
Their friendship had lasted so long that Magnus considered Damian like a brother. That’s why, if the man needed assistance or his help, he willingly provided it.
However, today was different from their previous meetings. Magnus had no idea what his friend’s purpose was for this visit.
“There’s something important I need to convey and discuss right now,” Damian said with an unreadable expression.
Magnus was curious. In his mind, he wondered what his friend wanted to discuss and convey to him.
“What important matter do you want to discuss that seems so serious?”
As if he had prepared everything in advance, Damian handed over a medium-sized brown envelope that he had been carrying. He asked Magnus to check its contents before continuing their conversation.
“Please take a look at what’s inside this envelope.”
Magnus complied. Without further questions, he opened the envelope and took out its contents. When Magnus saw the items inside the envelope, he was immediately shocked. It contained a collection of photos of his son with a woman posing intimately.
“These are Darwin’s personal collection of photos with his girlfriend. I just found out that before marrying Veronica, your son was in a relationship with another woman,” Damian explained calmly. There was no hint of emotion on his face or in his tone. “Unfortunately…” Damian continued, “Even after getting married, it seems that your son continued his relationship with this woman. In fact, on their honeymoon, instead of enjoying time with Veronica as newlyweds, Darwin brought his girlfriend along and spent the entire night with her.”
Magnus was taken aback. He had no knowledge of this issue. Hearing what Damian had to say, he felt a deep sense of embarrassment and guilt for his son’s behavior.
“I knew Darwin had a previous girlfriend,” Magnus admitted. “I just had no idea they were still involved after he got married.”
Damian nodded in understanding. He believed that his friend was not exaggerating. Damian knew Magnus well.
From the beginning, his friend had always strived to be a good person. Knowing full well that Magnus was a hardworking, family-oriented, and responsible man, Damian readily agreed to match his daughter with Magnus’s son. He believed that Magnus’s descendants would inherit the same qualities and personality.
However, expectations didn’t align with the reality on the ground. Damian had come to regard Darwin as his own son, and he had placed many hopes on his son-in-law.
“What’s even more painful is that Darwin often commits acts of violence against Veronica. My God, Magnus, my heart aches deeply knowing that the daughter I raised with so much effort and love is being mistreated by another man.”
This time, Magnus shook his head upon hearing Damian’s account. He appeared skeptical that his son could engage in violence against a woman.
All along, Magnus knew Darwin to be a gentle man. His son had never shown anger or raised his voice, even when his sister made significant mistakes throughout their lives.
“Are you sure Darwin did this?” Magnus inquired.
Damian nodded confidently. He wasn’t exaggerating or making things up with the information he had conveyed.
“Darwin even admitted to it.”
At length, Damian recounted everything he knew, carefully detailing what had transpired. From the acts of violence Darwin had committed to the matters of their marriage agreement and its cancellation.
Damian also didn’t forget to mention Veronica and Darwin’s plans to have a normal marriage. And most importantly, he didn’t leave out the incident where he caught Darwin with another woman outside.
“My God, I truly apologize, Damian,” Magnus pleaded with a remorseful tone. He felt deeply ashamed of his son’s foolish actions. After all the effort he had put into maintaining their family ties, his son had tarnished them so easily. “I swear I never intended to hurt or upset you like this.”
“I know,” Damian responded. His voice now sounded firmer. “Darwin has apologized multiple times, but forgiving him and letting everything go doesn’t feel fair at all.”
“So, what should I do to make amends for this mistake?”
Damian fell silent for a moment. His gaze was fixed, staring at Magnus’s face, which seemed troubled. Perhaps his long-time friend was feeling anxious and extraordinarily uncomfortable due to this unexpected turn of events.
“I don’t know, Magnus. There are many options that come to mind. From immediately handling Darwin and Veronica’s divorce, holding Darwin accountable for all his actions, or, most crucially, considering the takeover of all assets and the company that I willingly gave to both of you.”
Magnus was taken aback. Once again, he didn’t expect Damian to have such far-reaching thoughts. Now, would his family be in turmoil again if Damian were to realize all the options he had mentioned?
