Chapter 82

Deasy casually entered the Infinix Group building. Today, she had been assigned the task by Damian to pack up all of Veronica’s belongings that were there.
Before heading to Veronica’s room, Deasy intentionally stopped by Sean’s room first. Coincidentally, he had also been asked by Damian to pack up and return to the Vortex Group to continue his work there.
Upon reaching her destination, Sean appeared to have already finished organizing his belongings. In fact, he may have already sent some of them back to his old room at the Vortex Group.
“Good morning, Mr. Chandrawinata.”
Sean immediately looked up. Turning to the source of the voice, instead of responding, he let out a loud sigh. He had never liked being called by just his last name. However, Deasy often did that.
“The room’s owner isn’t here,” Sean casually replied, and he was greeted with Deasy’s cheerful laughter.
“Don’t sulk like that,” Deasy said as she walked closer, entering the room. “After all, the Chandrawinata surname is pretty cool.”
Sean chuckled. While he entertained Deasy, he continued his task of packing documents into the available boxes. His plan was to leave today and bid farewell directly to the owner of the Infinix Group.
“What’s so cool about it? I’ve never heard of a conglomerate with the Chandrawinata surname. The famous ones have always been the Hartono, Wijaya, Prawira, Sanjaya, Winata families, and the like.”
“That means your job is to make the Chandrawinata name as prestigious as the other conglomerate surnames.”
“How can I do that?” Sean asked while taping up boxes containing the documents he had organized.
Deasy leaned in closer. She spoke in a slightly hushed tone, her eyes fixed on him. “Just marry Veronica. Since she’s the only child of the Wijaya family, it’s guaranteed that all of Uncle Damian’s wealth will be passed on to Veronica and her descendants. So, automatically, your children will be rich Chandrawinatas, right?”
This time, Sean laughed. Although what Deasy said was true, he took it in stride. There was no trace of interest on his handsome face.
“But, I don’t like instant wealth,” Sean replied. “You know, from the beginning, I’m not from a prominent family. If I follow your way, people will still underestimate and look down on me. They will think I succeeded and became wealthy because of Uncle Damian’s influence.”
“That’s fine, Sean,” Deasy replied casually. “He’s your future father-in-law. Let people say whatever they want. Even if they insult you, the fact is that you’re marrying into a conglomerate, right?”
“The issue here is my self-esteem, Deasy,” Sean argued. “At the very least, if I want to be Veronica’s partner, I have to succeed and have my own reputation. Because everywhere you go, the instant path doesn’t last long.”
This time, Deasy sighed, somewhat amused by Sean’s naive attitude. In fact, she wanted to bring Veronica and Sean together.
Even though he wasn’t from a wealthy background and was currently slowly building his career, Sean wasn’t ambitious and money-crazy. He always tried to achieve what he wanted through hard work and his own abilities.
“Yet, a big opportunity is right in front of us,” Deasy muttered as she placed a stack of folders into the available box. “I feel like Veronica will soon divorce Darwin. Evidence is, she’s left Infinix Group and even Darwin’s house.”
Sean paused in his movements to hear what Deasy had just said. In truth, he didn’t know for sure what was happening, which was why Veronica had left and he was asked to return to the Vortex Group promptly.
“How can they be getting a divorce? Didn’t they decide to be together?”
Deasy laughed. She finally explained to Sean, who seemed unaware of the situation.
“Don’t you know the story about Mr. Damian catching Darwin cheating? Mr. Damian supposedly saw Darwin hugging another woman in a restaurant.”
Sean frowned for a moment. Shortly after, he remembered the story Deasy was referring to.
“Oh, I know about this. Some time ago, after having lunch with a client from Malaysia, Mr. Damian and I accidentally saw Darwin with another woman.”
“That was Vivian, his girlfriend,” Deasy corrected, specifying who Darwin was with at the time. “Mr. Damian said he saw Darwin hugging another woman. And from this incident, Mr. Damian finally found out about Darwin’s affair with Veronica.”
“Oh, really? Did Mr. Damian instruct someone to investigate or something?”
Deasy shrugged her shoulders. She didn’t know exactly who Damian had asked to gather information.
“I don’t know who he instructed. But yesterday, Mr. Damian did call me to his office and asked about Darwin. So, I just told him everything I knew. Besides, this is an opportunity to separate Veronica from a scoundrel like Darwin,” she said with a long sigh. Even from her expression alone, Deasy seemed unsatisfied with the situation. “She defended him so vigorously, and yet it’s all the same. Where’s the loyalty? Where’s the change? He’s still meeting his ex, even though they agreed to start a new life together. People who are habitual cheaters can’t be trusted. Besides, Darwin accepted Veronica not out of love but to secure his family’s wealth and his girlfriend from Veronica’s attacks, right?”
Deasy appeared grumbling with emotion. Sean, on the other hand, fell silent, processing what was happening. Some time ago, he had indeed been with Damian and witnessed firsthand what Darwin was doing out there. However, he didn’t expect the consequences to be so severe.
“Well, let it be. We don’t need to get too involved in this matter. Let’s just observe the developments from a distance,” Sean responded casually.
Deasy, however, was different. She seemed enthusiastic and fired up. In fact, she couldn’t wait to see Veronica separate from Darwin soon.
“If Veronica really does divorce soon, you should be prepared, Nath. Don’t let a great opportunity right in front of you go to waste.”
“We’ll talk about this later,” Sean interjected. He then stood up, getting ready to leave. “I’ve finished tidying up. Do you need help with Veronica’s room?”
“Sure,” Deasy nodded, also getting up and preparing. “Let’s go to her room now. We only need to pack the important documents.”
Meanwhile, Darwin appeared to be sitting in contemplation along the way to the office. His head was pounding as he thought about what had just happened. He never expected such a major event to occur.
Darwin had just started to truly enjoy happiness with Veronica. He had just started everything anew. But before he knew it, a storm of trials had come crashing down on him, slowly wreaking havoc in his life.
Now, Darwin was still confused. He kept thinking about what actions he should take to fix all the problems that were happening.
Darwin: Ve, please. Answer my calls. We need to meet and resolve all of this completely. I don’t want you to misunderstand me.
Darwin: Veronica, for God’s sake, pick up my call. I know I messed up, but please listen to my explanation first.
Darwin: Ve, please forgive me. Don’t punish me like this.
Darwin had sent countless voice calls and text messages to Veronica. He hoped that among the many messages he sent, his wife would read them and be willing to respond.
However, upon closer examination, it seemed futile. Since leaving Darwin’s house, Veronica had not shown herself for the past two days. She had even deliberately avoided going to work, either because she was sick or because she wanted to avoid Darwin and no longer wanted to meet him.
“Oh God, Veronica… don’t punish me like this,” Darwin muttered in silence. His hand reached out, occasionally massaging his throbbing forehead.
Upon arriving at the office, Darwin walked wearily to the executive’s office. From his weary expression, it was clear that he was truly tormented.
On his way to his office, Darwin was slightly surprised when he passed by Veronica’s workspace. From his perspective, he could clearly see Sean and Deasy in there, busy packing up Veronica’s belongings.
Darwin certainly couldn’t stay silent. Without much thought, he entered the room and asked for an explanation from the two people who were busy in front of him.
“What are you two doing?”
Sean and Deasy were both taken aback. They turned to see Darwin standing at the doorway, observing what they were doing.
Deasy continued her task, seemingly unfazed, while Sean politely tried to explain and provide Darwin with information about what he and Deasy were currently doing.
“Sorry for the interruption, Mr. Darwin. We’ve been tasked by Mr. Damian to pack up Veronica’s belongings.”
“Packing up her belongings?” Darwin asked in surprise. He knew that Veronica had decided to leave his home, but the fact that she had left Infinix Group completely took him by surprise.
“Yes, sir,” nodded Sean politely. “It’s possible that Mrs. Veronica will return to her previous office. And I also have permission to return to the Vortex Group starting today.”
“Why is Veronica staying here for so long?”
Deasy, who had finished packing, chimed in. It seemed she deliberately wanted to annoy Darwin with her words.
“Besides, she doesn’t want to see her husband who has a penchant for cheating and is untrustworthy.”
Sean, feeling uncomfortable, immediately turned and shook his head, signaling to Deasy to stop her taunts.
While Sean and Deasy continued to pack, Darwin remained silent, observing. Not a word came out of his lips, and he even brushed off Deasy’s earlier sarcasm.
Once all the items were neatly arranged, Sean took the initiative to bid farewell.
“Mr. Darwin, all of Mrs. Veronica’s belongings have been packed and organized. Deasy and I would like to take our leave now.”
Darwin appeared to scan the entire room with a scrutinizing gaze. There were many things bothering him, actually.
“Are you sure you’ve packed everything? What about the photos on Veronica’s desk? You didn’t take them?”
“Why would we take trash?” Deasy replied to Darwin’s question. “Veronica didn’t ask for wedding photos or anything related to you to be taken. She even suggested getting rid of them.”
Darwin took a deep breath. His hand clenched, wanting to respond sharply to Deasy’s cutting words. However, not wanting to create a scene, Darwin forced himself to remain silent and just listen.
“Once again, I’d like to take my leave, Mr. Darwin,” Sean interjected, trying to change the subject so that Darwin wouldn’t get angrier with Deasy. “I also want to thank you for all the help you’ve provided to me during our time working together. Hopefully, in the future, we can collaborate again.”
Darwin nodded, accepting Sean’s outstretched hand. He then allowed Sean and Deasy to take Veronica’s packed belongings with them.
After they left, Darwin appeared to walk toward his desk. His hand reached out to pick up a folded photo frame containing pictures of his wedding with Veronica and their moments in Korea. Instead of throwing them away, Darwin chose to keep these memorabilia in his office.
Lost in thought, that was all Darwin could do at the moment. He didn’t even know what to do next. His mind was filled with thoughts of Veronica and questions about how to convince his wife to forgive him and come back to him.
Immersed in silence and solitude, the door to Darwin’s office was knocked on several times. He heard it clearly. He responded briefly, then allowed the figure behind the entrance to come in.
Darwin didn’t really care. He only realized when the person in front of him greeted him with a voice he was so familiar with and had heard many times.
“Darwin…”
Hearing his name called, Darwin immediately looked up. He stared straight ahead, and what he saw surprised him.
“For God Shake, Vivian. What are you doing here?”
