Chapter 18

“Mr. Andy, please follow me now to the cafe I just informed you about. Don’t forget to bring the documents I asked for a while back.
Here, at a cafe, Veronica was seen sitting alone. After catching her husband in an intimate moment at his lover’s apartment, Veronica chose to calm herself for a moment at a cafe. She had been sitting there lost in thought for an hour, sipping on the Raspberry Black Currant she had ordered earlier.
There were feelings of annoyance, anger, hatred, and fury, all mixed together. If only hurting that person didn’t come with consequences or a prison sentence, she really wished she could beat up Darwin and his lover until they were in bad shape.
She couldn’t understand how her father could marry her off to a despicable man like him. Instead of being happy, she was suffering like she was now.
“In the past, you could make me cry. Now? Don’t expect it! My tears are too valuable for you. Just wait. I’ll pay you back for what you’ve done!”
Veronica kept repeating curses to herself until she felt slightly better. While waiting for her bodyguard to arrive, her phone started ringing. Glancing at it, she saw Sean’s name on the screen.
Initially, Veronica thought of ignoring it. But, fearing that her ex and former colleague might have important work-related information, she eventually decided to take the call.
“Yes, Sean. What’s up?”
“Veronica, where are you? I’ve been looking for you at the office and couldn’t find you. There are some documents that I need to confirm directly with you.”
Veronica took a deep breath. Suddenly, she felt guilty. Sean must be at the office and really in need of her assistance. That’s why he was searching for her like this.
“Sean, I’m sorry for not informing you earlier. I have some business outside. Maybe I’ll return after I’m done.”
“It’s okay, Ve. Take it easy. By the way, have you had lunch?”
“Yes, I have. Earlier, I had lunch with Deasy.”
“Good to hear. I thought you might have skipped lunch again. In that case, just continue with your activities. See you at the office later. See ya.”
After the call ended, Veronica sighed repeatedly. For the umpteenth time, she wondered why God hadn’t matched her with Sean, who clearly loved and cared for her. Why did it have to be Darwin? Why did she have to end up with that despicable man as her husband?
Lost in thought, Andy, whom she had been waiting for, finally arrived at the cafe. The tall man in a black shirt was invited by Veronica to sit down. At the same moment, Andy handed over the important documents Veronica had requested earlier.
“Everything is compiled in that folder, Mrs. Veronica. You can check it directly. If anything is unclear, feel free to ask.”
Veronica nodded. She opened the folder Andy had just handed her and carefully read through its contents.
Before today, Veronica had instructed Andy to find out and investigate Vivian’s background, the woman who was involved with her lover. She was simply curious about what made that woman so special in Darwin’s eyes.
“Oh, so Vivian is a marketing employee at an insurance company?” Veronica mumbled, loud enough for Andy to hear. “Orphaned and without any siblings.”
“That’s correct, Mrs. Veronica,” Andy nodded. “So, Vivian is actually an orphan. Her parents passed away when she was 15 years old. She used to live with her aunt, who is a cafe singer. Only in the past two years did she move to Kartika Raya Apartments.”
Veronica nodded, carefully listening to Andy’s explanation.
“A marketing employee earning enough to afford a luxury apartment in Kartika Raya.”
“Based on my investigation, the apartment isn’t owned by Vivian, ma’am,” Andy interjected.
“So, who does the apartment belong to? Is it rented? What’s the situation?” Veronica inquired. For some reason, she was very enthusiastic about hearing and digging into her husband’s lover’s background. If possible, she wanted to find Vivian’s weaknesses to use against her.
Hearing Veronica’s question, Andy took out a piece of paper from another folder he had brought. He handed it to Veronica for her to examine.
“Oh my goodness,” Veronica exclaimed after reading what Andy had just given her. “So, the apartment that Vivian currently occupies is specially rented by Darwin?”
Andy nodded.
“Before his assignment in South Korea, Vivian was still living with her aunt. After Mr. Darwin returned and settled back in Indonesia, according to the information I obtained, your husband rented that apartment unit specifically for Vivian to occupy, and it’s been that way until now.”
“Nice…” Veronica mumbled. “So that means the apartment she’s currently in is just a rental? Neither Darwin nor Vivian owns it, right?”
“Exactly, ma’am,” Andy affirmed confidently.
Veronica nodded her head. She tugged at her lip corner, and suddenly a plan formed in her mind.
“In that case, after this, I have a few tasks that Mr. Andy needs to handle. I want them completed today, no matter what.”
“Understood, ma’am. I’m ready to receive orders from you anytime.”
Veronica then grinned sharply. It was clear that she was impatient to execute the plan she had just crafted and present it to her beloved husband soon.
