REID’S TENDER LIPS
She brought her phone out of her purse as she wanted to call the cops but her second instinct warned her. She could be held as a murder suspect. A suspect for a person she knew not how he died.
She was still sweating profusely when she dodged her phone from her ear and quickly dropped it back in her course. She was acting rashly and that could get her in trouble.
She was quiet for a few more seconds with no headstart on what to do or where to go. Was she meant to run off and leave the body behind? Or was she meant to sit still right beside him with her drenched face?
A few drops of tears rolled down her cheeks and she checked her purse again, fumbling to get her phone after a while of thinking of what to do.
As her hands trembled to dial a number, probably to finally call an emergency number or Kyros’ number, then she noticed that he moved. He didn’t just move, he was also breathing.
He fucking moved.
She dropped her phone out of fear as he moved again but this time, he let out a drunken breath.
“Holy shit!” she exclaimed.
“Maria,” he called out drunkenly as he tried to stand.
Maria who was still in her reverie stared at him with multiple emotions oozing out within her.
He squinted his eyes as he sat up when it remained a failure to stand on his feet.
“You slut!” he countered. “How could you throw my heart off and grab Kyros’? You think he’s the best for you? No. Not him, please,”
She rested her face in her palm out of frustration and exhaustion.
“How could you?” she said with her face still resting in her palm. “How could you scare me like that? Why the fuck are you making things so complicated!” she yelled, raising her head only to see that he was fast asleep again.
He cussed under her breath before managing to stand on her feet. She unlocked her door and walked in, leaving him right there by her doorstep before shutting her door.
She cried a little bit more at how scared she was earlier. She had thought he was dead and any occurrences or near-death experiences to her always gave her anxiety beyond her minimal explanation. She looked back at her door as if she could still see him before dragging her feet over to her room.
She took a long shower as she tried to wash off the sweat and tears she had on.
She was still sobbing, letting her tears combine with the water as it ran down her entire body. After a few minutes, she was done having her bath. She changed into her night dress which was a short tiny hand silky dress that was barely covering her tighs which makes it exactly fit for sleep.
She settled in bed, pulling the duvet up to her chest as she shut her eyes but the thought of Reid still by her doorstep wouldn’t clear off her mind.
“Shit!” she exclaimed before angrily getting up from the bed as she briskly walked to her front door.
She unlocked it and as she opened it, Reid’s body which was already resting on the door fell in just right on top of her feet.
“How did I end up in a situation like this?” she said out a little louder than she had intended to sound before letting out a frustrated sigh.
She bent and tried to pull him out of the way and to his apartment but he appeared to not budge. She tried a little harder and there was still no difference.
“Reid,” she called as she tapped him. He made a soft sound but that was all he did as he turned to his side.
“What the hell am I meant to do with a drunken grown-ass man dressed in a suit,” she groaned.
She stood for a while before finally pushing his legs well inside the apartment so that there was enough space for her to lock her door. She tried to drag him again but he remained unmoved.
She went back to her room to bring a duvet and a pillow. She covered him up and gently lifted his head on the pillow. For a second, she noticed thin strands of moustache that were neatly shaved and how well-groomed his beards were.
She slowly raised her hand to his face as she swept a few strands of stray hair off his face. She noticed how gorgeous he was. She slowly rubbed her thumb on his lips and then did she realized what she was doing. She hurried up to her feet and as she was about to walk away, she felt his hand hold her ankle, restraining her from moving.
“Maria,” she heard him call gently and she turned her head to look down at him. He had a pitiful expression on his face despite his eyes being shut.
He looked like he was in a different realm other than where he was right now. His voice was low and soft and it raise a pint of feeling within her.
“I can’t let you slip off my hold. Lie with me,” he said, still with his eyes shut and for a second, Maria almost thought he was probably awake and sober.
He meant his words both figuratively and in their literal form but Maria could neither grant any of his wishes. Although, she had the urge for a second to lie with him as he sounded like he could do well with a cuddle but she knew better than to do that.  She was in a relationship.
She bent and gently unwrapped his hand off her ankle. She pulled the duvet well to cover him and he adjusted his head well on the pillow, murmuring some words that could not be heard by Maria and she didn’t bother.
“Sleep well, Reid,” she said, patting his back before finally walking off.
She laid in bed, shutting her eyes tightly and as well shutting off the thought of how tender Reid’s lips were against her thumb.
She flickers her eyes opened abruptly at the thought of her lips against his crowded and mind.
“What on earth am I thinking?” she shrugged and turned on her side, staring at nothing in particular.
Her phone suddenly rang, bringing her out of her reverie. She checked the caller and smiled at the caller.
“Hey, baby,” Kyros said as soon as she answered the call.
“Hey, baby,” she replied even though she felt a little bit odd at how ‘baby’ rolled off her tongue but she liked that she was gradually weathering the wall that was shielding her.
“I was thinking about you just now and your beautiful smile keeps popping up in my head like my phone notification,”
“I love what I’m doing to you,” she retorted and he smiled.
“I love what you’re doing to me and I don’t want it to stop,”
“It’s never going to stop. You can trust me on that,”
“I trust you to get me greatness,” he commented and a puzzled look appeared on her face but she swept it off quickly at his next question. “What have you been doing since you got back? I have been restless and thinking just about you.”
“Uhmm. Nothing much. I had my bath and I changed into a night dress. Pretty much typical things before bed except having dinner though,”
“Fuck! I haven’t had my bath,” he snickered and she laughed as well.
“I bet you still smell as great as a fresh fragrance,” she commented as he pulled down his pants.
“You could say that again, babe. I still smell great. That’s like a trademark for me,”
“I figured. You wore one the day you got shirtless…” she stopped as the realization of that day’s event got obvious.
“How is Reid?” he asked her and she frowned lightly.
“Why are you asking me about him?”
“You don’t have to be sensitive, babe. He lives in the same building as you,”
“What do you mean sensitive? You should know how he is since you’re his lawyer,” she furrowed her eyebrow as the topic was getting her upset already.
“Fine. Fine,” he rolled his eyes.
“Did you just roll your eyes?” she asked jokingly.
“No, I didn’t,”
“Yes, you did,”
They spoke for a while before Kyros dismissed himself to have his bath.
Maria smiled after the call as it was putting her in her feelings. She pulled the duvet up to her chest for the hundredth time this night as she adjusted her head on the pillow.
Slowly and gradually, she was drifting off to sleep even though she tried hard to open her eyes at the touch she felt behind her.
It felt like a person snuggled up to bed behind her but she wasn’t sure if it was in reality or if she was already in her dreamland.
Soon, she finally drifted off to sleep without minding the warmth she felt in this person’s arms.
