Chapter 54 Prelude

Sidney’s eyes moved away from Aubree when she was asleep. He looked through the gap in the curtains at the rainy night outside the window, blurred and lonely.
“Aubree, I’ll bring you somewhere tomorrow.” The faint words were a little vague and floating, but inside his heart was like standing in a battlefield full of blood.
The feeling was like plucking out his own heart with his own hands and then dropping it hard on the ground, with only numbness remaining after the violent pain.
He finally still spoke out.
She nodded her head softly, indicating that she understood. She always felt so safe in his arms and fell asleep.
When she woke up the next day, Sidney was no longer in bed.

In Sidney’s office.
He took the sealed bag handed over by Steward Martin. Inside the sealed bag was the paternity test of Robert and Aubree and information about her biological mother.
“All the information was made into an electronic version. This is a spare flash drive. The other one has been taken to the scene.” Martin took out the flash drive, plugged it into the computer and played it for Sidney to see.
“Okay.”
He had never given up on his plan, not even a single thought.
The root cause of his pain was simply that she would be hurt, and later, she would hate him.
Time passed, and there was still half an hour before the interview began.
He stood up from the sofa and straightened his sleeves. At that moment, his eyes were full of determination. He was going to the battlefield now. He absolutely could not lose as he had planned for so long.
“Go pick up Aubree and send her straight there.”
“Yes, master.” Steward Martin couldn’t hide his excitement as he watched his master’s great success.
Steward Martin sent someone to pick her up from home, and then rushed to the exclusive interview scene.
Sidney’s car was far away and stopped at the roadside. He had no intention of going down and just sat quietly.
Gently closing his eyes, he waited for the news.
Aubree was sent into the scene. She looked at some reporters coming in one after another. She was a bit scared as she had never seen such a set before.
She was just about to ask the driver who brought her in. But when she turned around, the driver was gone.
She looked around and found that Uncle Sidney was not there. She was a bit angry and nudged her mouth as she didn’t know why he brought her to a place like this.
She turned around and tried to leave, but she was squeezed back in, and someone reprimanded impatiently, “What are you squeezing for? Everyone is having a hard time getting in, just sit down.”
She was a bit embarrassed. When she looked behind her and saw that so many people were desperately trying to get inside, she was really embarrassed to go out.
She had no choice but to find a seat randomly.
“Thank you all for coming.” The lights on the stage gradually brightened, and the big screen at the back showed video photos of Robert’s teaching and charity work, “Don’t be restrained today, feel free to ask any questions you want, there is still one minute to countdown to the start of the live broadcast, let’s welcome Mr Robert and his family!”
Aubree was still fidgeting, but when she saw that it was Robert, she was immediately interested. She had only seen him on TV and in magazines, but not in person.
The reporters in the room were scrambling to get their cameras. And there were several large vertical cameras on the side of the stage. She couldn’t help but raised her smiling face and also having a curious look.
The national broadcast began.
All the reporters couldn’t wait to ask questions. Robert looked at them with a smile and kindness, naming a random person.
“Please ask.” His speech was slow, giving people a soothing and kind feeling.
“Mr Chapman, may I ask if it is difficult for you to maintain the image of a perfect man for so many years?”
He thought for a moment and replied, “I don’t think I’m a perfect man yet. Thank you all for your praise for me. I’d like to clarify that I have never deliberately maintained this title. I’m just doing what I can for those poor children.”
“I heard that you have always maintained your true feeling for your family. Even though there are many women out there, you have never touched them. As a man, how did you manage to do that?”
“As a husband, I naturally have to protect and love my wife. I love my wife very much. If it wasn’t for her silent support behind me, I wouldn’t be who I am now.”
Everyone on stage went to listen to his speech with respect.
