Aubree had been crying the whole night. She struggled to sit up on bed with her eyes swollen and red. She no longer had the mood to eat breakfast so she went straight to school instead.
The moment she arrived at her classroom, she immediately tried to pinpoint Hendrix’s figure, but the more she held on to her expectations, the more disappointed she would be. She dejectedly headed towards her seat while sulking, and her head was filled with images of Hendrix getting his leg broken.
She had a feeling that people were somehow sneaking glances at her, but when she carefully looked around to verify her suspicion, those people immediately averted their heads and pretended that nothing was going on.
These people were all Hendrix’s friends.
Aubree felt her heart thumping furiously and it was beating faster and faster. She urged herself to ask about Hendrix’s whereabouts and whether he had returned home, but her body had seemingly glued itself to her chair, rendering her immobile.
It was really a torture for her to go through this.
She once again sensed their glances in her direction, and this time, she mustered some courage and headed towards them.
“Hey, do you know why isn’t Hendrix coming to school today?” Aubree was somehow feeling guilty as she dared not to meet that person in his eyes. If something had happened to Hendrix, she would never be able to forgive herself.
“Don’t you know the reason that Hendrix is skipping school?” Riley had a disdainful expression on his face. He was one of Hendrix’s best friends, and he was obviously looking down on Aubree. However, it was strikingly obvious that he knew about Hendrix’s whereabouts.
“Hey, we should just forget this and assume that our boss was blind that time around. He has helped her multiple times, yet he was getting a kick on his gut when something bad happened!” Someone next to him came forward to pull Riley back while casting a sideway glance at Aubree.
His words were fully of irony and venom.
“I’ve long told you that this type of seemingly obedient girl is the most scheming one but none of you would believe me. What’s more, Hendrix has helped her to fend off Pippa, but what was happening now? Hendrix was admitted to the hospital because of his broken leg and the reason was her. She still has the guts to act pitifully and innocently by asking such pointless questions. She is really a bitch!” One of Pippa’s good friend jumped out and criticized Aubree. Before this, everybody had to listen to Hendrix, but now they finally had their chance to reprimand her with sarcasm.
“Hendrix has been admitted to the hospital?” Aubree suddenly felt her frame tensed. She was torn between being jubilant and saddened. She was happy because Hendrix had returned from that place alive, but she was sad too because he was admitted to the hospital. Everything happened because of her.
“Which hospital is he in now?” Aubree couldn’t wait to find out about this and she even ignored the bell that signaled the beginning of their class. Hendrix’s whereabouts was the only thing she was concerned about.
The teacher had arrived, and everyone scurried back to their seats except for Aubree who was still standing in front of Riley’s desk. She was gaping at him with expectations in her eyes. Riley suddenly felt strangely nervous as he couldn’t endure her pitiful gaze. He titled his head away in response.
“Aubree, we are going to start the class now. Return to your seat.” Aubree had always left a good impression on the teacher. Not only she was obedient and independent, she was also excellent in academics. The teacher was slightly baffled by her actions today.
“Riley, I beg you, please tell me his whereabouts…” Aubree ignored the teacher as she subdued her voice while begging in front of Aubree. She had only once put aside her dignity like this in front of Uncle Sidney. Other than that, she would never lower herself like this in front of anybody else.
She was really going all out now.
Riley continued to ignore her.
“Aubree Wilson!” The teacher was finally starting to become furious.
Riley felt his stance softening as she continued begging him. Aubree was always the model student who had never done anything out of place previously. However, she was now doing something out of place because of Hendrix.
“He is at the orthopedics department in First Hospital.” Riley gnashed his teeth as he revealed important information.
Aubree finally learnt of the answer she was seeking. She cast a grateful glance at Riley before darting out of the classroom. She was going to look for Hendrix immediately.
“Aubree, where are you going now?” The teacher was astonished since nobody had ever rushed out of the classroom in the middle of a lesson! To top it off, the student who had broken the norm was none other than Aubree!
Everybody was stunned by the turn of events. What was happening now?
However, all Riley could feel was an indescribable feeling. He was slightly impressed by her besides feeling warm because of her concern towards Hendrix.
Aubree didn’t carry a lot of money on herself and she had never ventured out into any unfamiliar territory all alone. She was even not familiar with the roads nearby her school, so she could only ask about directions non-stop.
Finally, she reached First Hospital after much deliberations. She was soaked with sweat and her clothes were messy. She looked really embarrassed at that moment.
“Hello, is there a patient whose name is Hendrix?” She dashed to the counter while feeling short of breath. She couldn’t even form a coherent sentence at the moment.
“You are looking for Hendrix?” Before the nurse could answer, a very elegant and noble looking lady suddenly asked out of nowhere. She had a solemn and dismal expression on her face.
Aubree nodded hastily and deep down in her heart, she could guess this person’s identity based on her attire.
“Are you his classmate? I am his mother. Let me ask you, who has Hendrix gone out with last night? I have been asking around yet the answer is eluding me. Do you know about this?” For some reason, Hendrix’s mother was in a foul mood since the moment she laid eyes on Aubree.
Aubree suddenly froze on the spot. She didn’t even dare to make any sound as she gripped the corner of her shirt hard.
“Who the hell has caused my son to have a broken leg? I will definitely crush her if I set eyes on her!”
When she said this, Aubree suddenly felt a disconcerting feeling assaulting her nose. Her tears started to trickle down her cheeks uncontrollably.
