I step out of the shower and wrap a towel around my body, listening out for any noise in my room. The idea of Brody in my bedroom causes my heart to speed up. I mentally pray I don’t embarrass myself. Although it wouldn’t be the first time.
The aftermath of today’s events are slowly fading from my mind however I know tomorrow, it’ll be all I think about. I’m dreading going to school, the thought causes my stomach to tighten in knots, making me nauseous. I rollback my shoulders and let out a low groan at the dull aching pain in my body. The stress and anxiety from the past few weeks is beginning to take its toll on me.
“Brody, what classes do you have — ”
My question is cut short as I peer around my empty room. Where the hell is Brody? I search my bedroom and notice his jacket has also disappeared. If his scent wasn’t lingering in the air, I’d question whether I made up his presence entirely.
“Brody?” I say quietly, knowing I won’t receive a reply. I wrap the towel around my body tightly, nibbling on my bottom lip nervously. A feeling of hurt washes through me from his sudden departure.
The feeling of his lips are still lingering on mine and I raise my hand, tracing over them. Has Brody left without saying goodbye?
“I’m sure he has an explanation,” I murmur, thinking out loud as I attempt to diminish my negative thoughts. I walk over to my dresser and pull out some pyjama shorts and a baggy shirt. My bedroom door suddenly opens and I let out a little yelp, spinning around. My hands tighten around the towel and I clutch it tightly against my body, eyes wide.
“Brody! What are you doing?” I hiss, motioning for him to shut the door. He doesn’t reply but does close the door, eyebrows raised at my sudden outburst.
“You can’t just take a walk around my house! What if Jedd or Dad had seen you? They would have freaked out.” I tell him, trying to keep my voice down. Brody walks forward and lifts a bag from behind his back.
“I bought us some snacks, for the movie.”
I feel guilt overcome me as I study the bag filled with junk food. I give him a sheepish look in return.
“I thought you left,” I mutter. Brody shakes his head, dropping the bag to the floor before walking over to me. I suck in a breath as he grows closer, aware of his scent that’s closing in around me. He stops once he’s an inch away, green eyes searching mine.
“I wouldn’t do that to you Bella,” he says softly, giving me a heart stopping smile. I instantly melt at his words, my legs turning to jelly.
“Always the gentleman.” I tease him, biting down on my lip. It’s the truth. Brody is the good guy in movies, the one who opens doors for women. The one who uses all of his manners religiously and treats others the
way everyone should treat people.
“What can I say? My parents raised me well.” Brody smirks, tugging at my wrists to bring me closer towards him. I physically feel myself swoon at his touch and suddenly remember I’m in a towel.
Which means I’m naked underneath.
“I don’t think you should get so close to me when the only thing covering me right now is a flimsy towel.” I whisper quietly.
“I’m not complaining.” Brody smirks, a playful glimmer lighting up his eyes. His words cause me to blush a crimson red, cheeks heating up like frying pans. My gaze drops to his lips and I inch closer, my hand still gripping tightly onto the towel. Brody lets out a low chuckle, his laugh so smooth, it could melt anyones heart. He leans closer to me until I feel his warm breath tickling my lips.
“I have a fear that if I start, I won’t stop.” He murmurs huskily, eyes roaming my face and body. I open my mouth to respond but a loud knock on my bedroom door startles me. Brody jumps back and I let out a little scream of panic and surprise. My eyes widen and I glance around in sheer panic.
“Erm, yeah?” I call out.
“Are you okay Bella? I heard from your school about the accident. Can I come in?” Jedd says from the other side, his voice sounding sleepy. My eyes widen further and I glance at Brody who’s looking at me with a sheepish grin.
“In the bathroom, quick!” I hiss at him, pushing on his arms. He barely moves and begins to chuckle under his breath, finding the entire situation amusing.
“Bella?” Jedd asks me uncertainly causing the panic inside of me to grow.
“Yeah! One minute! I’m coming.” I yell, finally getting Brody inside of the bathroom. I shut the door firmly and blow out a breath, unable to believe I’m hiding him inside my room.
“Come in,” I say, sounding slightly out of breath. Moving Brody is definitely harder than it looks. My bedroom door opens and I tug at my hair, feeling like Jedd will be able to know just by looking at me. He enters my room, his hair sticking up in different directions from being woken up.
“The school rang me,” he explains, his voice raspy from sleep. I nod, damp hair flying around my shoulders. “Yeah, I was hit with a ball at the football match today.” I mutter, still feeling full of embarrassment.
“How are you feeling? Do you have painkillers?” He asks me, sounding concerned. I give him a small smile. “Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks for checking up on me Jedd.”
Jedd nods, a small frown appearing on his face. He lightly sniffs the air and I immediately feel my heart drop to the pit of my stomach. Damn Brody and his gorgeous smelling aftershave.
“What’s that smell?” Jedd asks, his eyes wondering around the room. They land on the bag that was on the floor, full to the brim with food.
“Wow, are you hungry?” He asks me, amusement filling his eyes. I nod repeatedly, feeling my throat close up with nerves.
“Yeah, I’m going to watch a movie and then sleep.” I reply which technically isn’t a total lie. I am going to do that .
. . But with Brody.
Jedd pauses for a few moments, giving me a questioning look before shrugging. “Alright Bells, I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Goodnight!” I respond over enthusiastically. Jedd smiles before disappearing out my door. As soon as it clicks shut, Brody re-appears from my bathroom with a smirk on his face and a twinkle in his eyes.
“I like sneaking around with you Bella.”
“I can’t believe that actually happened!” I exclaim in disbelief, covering my face with my hands.
“You can tell him you have someone over.” Brody chuckles, taking a seat on my bed. I widen my eyes at him —
“Are you crazy? I love him but he wouldn’t ever leave me alone. Him and Dad would practically question me to death about you.” I explain, walking over to my television to turn it on.
“You know Bella, they will find out someday.” Brody responds, taking off his jacket. As he does his shirt rises slightly, revealing his lower stomach. My eyes drop to his toned body and I have to refrain myself from drooling over him.
“Are you planning on sticking around?” I ask, my eyes flickering between both of his. When he speaks, butterflies fill my stomach. The corner of his lips tug upwards into a playful smirk —
“You bet.”
