This time, Penelope felt a rising sense of panic. “Don’t say such things…”
Asher gripped her hand firmly and locked eyes with her. “Uncle, I need to confess something.”
“Asher!”
“The child in her womb is not mine.”
Asher chuckled, his embarrassment evident. “We lied to you. Grandmother is pressuring me to get married, and I just couldn’t handle it.”
Warren stood up, his expression turning gloomy. “Do you understand the gravity of what you’re saying?”
“I do.”
“How do you plan to explain this to your grandmother?”
“I’ll keep lying to her until we get caught.”
“Then why are you telling me the truth?”
Asher, with his businessman’s mindset, got straight to the point.
“Because of this baby…”
“Shut up!” Penelope screamed.
Asher glanced at her from the corner of his eye, noticing the sweat on Penelope’s forehead. She seemed on the verge of a breakdown.
Warren took a step forward and approached her. “Who is the baby’s father?”
Asher reached out to embrace her and patted her on the shoulder. “I don’t want to reveal your ex-boyfriend’s name. Why are you so nervous?”
Penelope pushed him angrily.
“Hey, don’t hit me,” Asher groaned as her blow landed in his stomach, causing him to bend over.
Penelope tried to chase after him to kick him, but Warren hugged her waist from behind, restraining her. “Calm down. Can you control yourself?”
His large, warm hands firmly held her waist, imparting a sense of calm even though she couldn’t break free. She gradually relaxed.
Asher took the chance to escape through the door.
Penelope regained her composure and eased her body.
Warren asked, “Did you break up with your ex-boyfriend?”
“Nonsense. Can you call it a breakup if you’ve never been together?”
He nodded and turned her around to face him. Warren gazed at her and said, “May I have a chance?”
“What chance?” Penelope felt her scalp tingle.
“An opportunity to pursue you.”
“Do you know what you are talking about?”
“I know.”
Penelope paused and then shook her head. “I can’t promise you.”
“Why?” He wasn’t disappointed or confused; he looked at her calmly.
“I can’t let you date a pregnant woman.” Penelope lowered her head and gestured to her stomach with her fingers.
“Is it just for this reason?”
“Not only…”
“Give you a chance and tell me all.” He reached out to touch her cheek involuntarily.
Penelope looked up and hesitated for a long time.
Warren sighed. “Fortunately, I’m patient.”
Penelope bit her lips and said with difficulty. “If we are together now, it’s still four months before I give birth to the baby, plus a recovery period of two months… then you have to…”
She didn’t finish her words, but Warren still understood.
“Errr, I’m not in a hurry.” He didn’t take this factor into consideration. His only concern was that she was his nephew’s girlfriend.
Penelope grasped her hair and said, “So I said I can’t…”
No man can refrain from his desire to have sex with his girlfriend. Penelope’s situation kind of prevented the development of this matter.
He was very attracted to her, but he had to keep his distance.
Warren reached out his arm, and Penelope leaned on it with awkwardness. The two hugged each other as if one had gone a long way before meeting his companion.
“I’m okay.” He lowered his head and touched her hair. “I just want to hug you like this, isn’t it okay?”
Penelope was affixed to his chest. It was the kind of temperature she imagined.
“What is the difference between you and those men who say I just touch you without entering?” She said with a laugh.
He pushed her away, “How many men have said this to you?”
“Errr…” She looked down and said, “Oh, why is my jelly on the ground!”
Warren sighed. He didn’t want to ask about her past anymore, which would only make himself feel uncomfortable.
Penelope noticed he hadn’t felt mad, and she said with a smile, “I’ve heard people say it. I haven’t had anyone say it to me before.”
“Lie.” He pinched her nose. She smiled and thanked him for letting go of her.
Such sweet interactions made it seem as though the two had been in love for quite a long time.
Asher returned after a day of wandering outside. Before he opened the door, he expected to find a dark room. Unexpectedly, Penelope was sitting on the couch, eating oranges. The program on TV was “Horrible Histories.”
Penelope was laughing wildly, with her hair untidy. She had changed from that little black dress, and even her posture was different.
“Where is my uncle?”
“He’s gone.”
“Really?” Asher looked at her suspiciously.
Penelope said while eating a piece of orange, “Why should he have stayed here? Did you plan to have dinner with him?”
“You didn’t make it clear?” Asher sat next to her, looking a bit strange.
“No.”
“He still doesn’t know the child is his?”
“Yes.”
“But he is still willing to pursue you?”
“Yes…”
“Then when are you going to tell him the truth?”
Penelope spit out a seed, patted his hand, and said, “Well, I’ll tell him the truth when you tell him that you are gay. Is that okay?”
Asher looked at her, puzzled. “Why?”
“You confess first, then I’ll tell him the truth so that he certainly won’t be angry with both of us at the same time.”
Asher looked at her with an affable expression.
“Well, I will not confess. When you give birth to your baby, I’ll see how you end the lie.” Asher gritted his teeth.
“You said that the baby is my ex-boyfriend’s. I’ll disguise the truth until you can’t hold your secret.” Penelope squeezed his shoulder, smiling wickedly.
“Is your ex-boyfriend white?”
“No. I remember you know him.”
“The baby in your stomach will be bi-racial for no reason?”
“Certainly not.”
Asher proudly smiled, patted her shoulders, and said, “So, this situation will show that you are exposed after childbirth. You should consider that.”
Then he hummed into the bathroom happily.
Penelope thought: Holly shit! Is it time to confess all?
She’d be killed.
