Chapter 16: Take Your Time

Book:A Night With The Billionaire Published:2024-6-4

Penelope went to the study’s door, took a deep breath, and knocked on the door.
“Knock, knock…”
After three times, still, nobody answered.
She hesitated… Is he not answering because he knew who was outside his study room?
This would not be good.
However, Penelope has an advantage. If she did something wrong, she would certainly apologize.
In fact, she is greedy and stingy. She used to be a petty thief, and now she was senseless and always made harsh comments. She liked handsome guys but couldn’t remember the appearance of others. She really has a lot of shortcomings…
She raised her hand again and knocked firmly. However, the courage to apologize is one of her few advantages, of which she has always been proud.
“Mr. Duncan, I know you’re inside. If you don’t want to open the door, just listen to me like this.” After waiting for half a minute, nobody responded to her.
Penelope leaned against the door and tried to listen to the movement inside. “Mr. Duncan? Are you asleep?”
“I’m sorry about what I said. I didn’t mean it from my heart. It was nonsense. Never mind…”
Penelope stopped and thought: if she is treated that way, would she easily accept the apology?
“I know I’m a bit selfish, but I’m definitely not an ungrateful person. Please trust me.” Penelope begged seriously, “I grew up in an unsound family, and I will remember all those who are kind to me, including you….”
“Honestly speaking, you take care of me although we don’t have any relationship, I really appreciate it.”
“If you’re really angry, just hit me. I’m thick-skinned, and I am fine with two slaps as long as you don’t hit on my stomach…” She bowed her head sincerely.
Warren walked upstairs slowly with a cup of water. Everyone in the house likely heard her apology as long as they were not deaf.
Penelope sighed and looked back, feeling that she would be kicked out soon.
“Ah!” There is a pair of men’s shoes in her eyes. Her pupils magnified, and she took a step back immediately.
In that second, a variety of headless bodies and nightmares flash in her head.
Warren looked at her emotionlessly. His heart that just softened for a second instantly stiffened, especially when he saw the hint of confusion in her slowly raised eyes, which made him furious.
“Ha ha ha ha… You are not inside, I thought you were.” She smirked and looked at him cautiously.
Warren walked past her to the study. Penelope slouched her shoulders. She banged her head forcefully as the door closed.
Face blindness! Damn face blindness!
How can she forget him just after he changed his clothes?
It is such a shame! She even said she remembered him!
With a sigh, she returned to her room and was ready to live in the streets with Ross.
“Mr. Duncan is not such a stingy person. You worry too much.” The next morning, the butler, wearing a pair of reading glasses, smiled and comforted her.
“He didn’t look like a stingy person, but I still felt bad.” Penelope stretched her hands and fiddled with a mimosa under her feet, watching it shrink a little bit.
Warren is like a mimosa. When she thought she could get along well with him, their relationship was set back to its original state unexpectedly because of her words.
“Good girl, you are honest.” The butler nodded with a smile as if he was satisfied with her sense of shame.
Penelope sighed and shook her head.
“Honestly, I can’t make him forgive me. I have to do something to make him happy.”
The butler pushed his reading glasses and bent down to take care of the flowers. “Well, let’s wait and see.”
“I need your help.”
“Mr. Duncan liked to watch basketball or football games.” The butler told her.
Penelope got it. She stood up and touched her chin. She blinked, and a strategy came to mind.
In the afternoon, the driver gave her two tickets for the basketball game and said, “The game will start at 7:30 PM. The seat number is written on it.”
“Thank you.” Penelope took the tickets with a smile and said, “I will give you the money for the tickets later.”
The driver smiled and said, “Take your time.”
To show her full sincerity, she decided to go to Warren’s office to invite him.
“I heard that it is going to snow today. If you go out, you should wear more clothes.” Mrs. Brown told Penelope.
“Thank you!” She ran upstairs with tickets, forgetting she was pregnant.
The weather forecast said that it is going to snow today. It is cloudy, which seems to be a sign in this regard.
Penelope wore a black down jacket with a red scarf.
Mrs. Brown looked at her and said, “You look a little whiter than when I first met you.”
Penelope laughed and put on her shoes. She said, “I won’t come back for dinner tonight.”
“Please be careful when you come back at night…” Seeing her drifting into the car, Mrs. Brown could not help but remind her.
Penelope gently smiled and waved to Mrs. Brown.
“Come back soon.”
Mrs. Brown will never say it to Warren. But she can naturally say it to Penelope because Penelope is a lively and lovely girl, like her own daughter.
Following the driver, Penelope didn’t worry that she couldn’t enter the gates of Duncans’ office. They don’t arrive at the proper time. Warren is in a meeting.
“It’s okay. I can just sit outside and wait.” Penelope said.
The secretary looked at the driver, and she seemed to ask him who Penelope was and why she was at the CEO’s office.
“Please let her wait inside. There are lots of people coming and going outside.” The driver said.
The secretary knew the driver. She opened the office door and asked her to wait inside.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, what do you want to drink?” the secretary asked politely.
“When will Mr. Duncan finish his meeting?”
“I’m not sure. It may be half an hour or an hour later.” The secretary smiled.
Penelope nodded and said, “Please give me a cup of coffee, no sugar, and just add milk.”
“Okay, please wait a moment.”
