“It’s not that I don’t believe him, I just… I just… I don’t know what to say, just wait until he’s done.” Emma also did not know what to say.
Then, Emma and Linda sat together in the office and waited, two people’s attention has been on Carl who was seriously looking at the computer screen and kept writing on the paper.
After waiting for almost ten minutes, Carl got up, picked up several pieces of paper and handed them to Emma and said, “It has been done.”
Emma looked at the paper Carl handed over in surprise, looked at it roughly, and then looked at Carl and said, “Can you make sure that there are no mistakes in your translation? It’s a contract worth millions of dollars, there can’t be any mistakes.”
“Believe it or not.” Carl lightly said, and then went out.
“How can this man have this attitude?” Emma was not happy at Carl’s attitude.
“Manager Li, how is the translation? Is there anything obviously wrong?” Linda asked immediately.
“I don’t know. I did not look at it carefully. But there’s no wrong, even if there is a problem it should be small. It is just an intentional contract of Aril group, we still need to study, so, Linda, inform the top leaders of the company, as well as a legal person to the office for the meeting at two o’clock in the afternoon, so as to study the draft of the Aril company.”
Emma said to Linda. Until Linda went out, she sat in front of the computer looking at Carl translated document carefully.
Carl handwriting looked very nice, smooth with strong strength. Emma cannot believe that this was written by Carl. However, compared to his nice writing, Emma was more shocked by the fact the he can understand French.
Emma carefully read the document translated by Carl. And she can be sure that Carl knew French well. And his level was far beyond the translator she hired with high salary. Emma sat in the office thinking for a moment, looked at the watch, took her bag and went out. When she was at the door, she said to Carl who was playing computer, “Carl, I have to go out, you drive, wait for me at the door.”
Carl was stunned, then nodded, followed behind Emma.
“Linda, I have to go out for a while. Please call me if you need help.” After saying that to Linda, Emma went downstairs.
“Where to?” Carl asked Emma, siting in the car.
“To XX hospital.” Emma said lightly.
Carl was stunned, because it was the hospital where Frost stayed.
“Don’t look at me like this, you have helped me so much, I should also do you a favor. I know you really want to go to the hospital but you dare not let me out of your sight, so I can only accompany you to the hospital, this is my favor to you.” Emma said lightly.
“Thank you.” Carl didn’t say much, but he said it honestly.
“Can you tell me why you know French? And you can’t blame me for being curious. I know your general life experience. You know, even a professional college graduate can hardly translate a business document as fluently as you do.” Emma hesitated and said.
“Self-taught, when I was in the army.” Carl lightly said.
“Self-taught? Impossible.” Emma widened her eyes. She still remembered that when she was ready to study abroad in US, she hired various famous teachers to teach her English. Finally she passed IELTS and TOEFL, while Carl said he was self-taught, which make Emma sad.
“If there’s one thing that you want to do, you can do it. There are so many things that seem impossible, but if you try, you can make it. Learning a language is so easy.”
Carl blandly said, he did not deliberately to boast himself, but the words from the heart. His French was not strictly self-study, but a literacy class in a training camp. In addition to French, in fact, he was proficient in several languages, such as English, Japanese and so on. Their graduation requirements were stricter than any hierarchy of language in society, but no one gave them a grade certificate.
And they learnt not only language, but also many strange subjects. But during the learning time Carl felt that he was just a soldier, it was useless to learn that. Only later in the execution of the mission, he knew that sometimes these things were more important than force. Of course, as Carl said, learning a language in the training camp was just the simplest task, which was too trivial compared with other assessment.
“Carl, to tell you the truth, I am surprised at what you are now, and I do not understand you, what kind of person you are on earth?” Emma looked at Carl seriously and said.
“I am, quite simply, an ex-soldier, fatherless, motherless, with a sister who is very ill, and very poor, that is all.” Carl lightly said.
