” What do you think about this one?” Sheila asked, showcasing her green backless dress. The two of them were preparing to attend the launching of the new jewelry by Blake Shelton’s company.
” Too revealing ” David stated plainly, his eyes narrowing at Sheila’s exposed Milky skin at the back.
” Too revealing? Are you kidding me? This is a backless dress and this is its design.” Sheila complained.
” What’s wrong with you? You seem to have a problem with everything I wear.”
This was the ninth dress and still, David had something negative to say about it.
” If you want me to walk naked, you might as well tell me.” She complained.
She was getting tired, not to mention the event was going to start in less than an hour. As one of the invited guests and Blake’s junior, how could she afford to be late?
But with David’s actions of refusing each and every dress she tried, they were surely going to be late.
Without a word, David walked to the wardrobe and retrieved a purple maternity dress. He then paired it with a black blazer.
Seeing the dress David just picked for her, Sheila almost vomited blood.
” You are not serious at all. You want me to wear that at a party?” Was he nuts? That was a fucking maternity dress and not a dress to be worn at a party.
” It’s either you wear that or we aren’t going anywhere.” David announced with finality. There was no room for discussion or negotiation.
Looking at David, Sheila could already tell that no amount of coercing will make the guy change his mind.
Begrudgingly, she slipped on the dress and paired it with a blazer
David then helped her wear her maasai slippers which she had bought in Kenya during their honeymoon.
They were flat, fashionable and comfy.
Soon after, the pair left the house and headed to the hotel where the launch would be hosted.
During such an important day in country A, many reporters had camped outside the entrance of the hotel.
Although Blake’s company wasn’t big, it was famous for its unique designs.
This year, it was announced that the designs presented were going to blow off the minds of all the people. As a result, every reporter wanted to get a glimpse of the pieces to be launched in the market.
They had also arrived to acknowledge all the invited guests to the launch.
The car came to a stop at the entrance. A valet arrived and collected the car keys to Park the vehicle at its designated parking position.
With the invitation card at hand and holding his wife’s hand, David made his way to the hotel. Just then, the media flocked them.
The bodyguards who were behind them rushed forward to block them from the crowd.
” President Brown, rumor has it that you remarried recently. Is the woman by your side your wife? Which family does she come from?” A reporter shouted from behind.
David halted in his steps and Sheila clenched her fists.
At the end of the day, those from the lower society don’t deserve to stand with the rich.
Slowly, David turned to face the crowd which was now anticipating his answer.
” Yes, this is my wife and as for her family, she is a member of the Brown family. If you’ll excuse us, My wife is pregnant and can’t bear standing for a long time.” David replied, turned around and led Sheila inside the hotel.
His words stirred an uproar as every one rushed to be the first one to announce the news of the Brown family having an heir soon enough.
Sheila was touched after David defended her before the media but… did he need to brag about expecting a child? Now, the whole world knows that she is pregnant.
What Sheila didn’t know was that David chose to use that opportunity to alert their enemies.
Knowing her very well, he knew that she would do everything to get rid of Sheila.
If that happens, he will be able to pay that sinner with her own coin.
David and Sheila were welcomed by Blake himself.
” Welcome president Brown, Mrs Brown. It’s an honor to have you here.” Blake said, shaking hands with David.
He was about to hug Sheila when warning bells sounded in his mind and he stopped himself.
He gave her a subtle nod which Sheila reciprocated with her own.
The two then took their seats as the launch was officially opened with a performance.
It was time for the CEO to make his speech and introduce his pieces to the whole world.
” Before we can proceed, I want to invite someone very special to me and the reason we are having this launch.
She was my junior in school and that’s when I discovered her passion in designing. At first, I asked her to sell her designs but she turned me down. I tried recruiting her as the chief designer when I started the company and despite the huge salary I offered, she never agreed.
When she finally sold tbe designs to me, she asked not to be credited anywhere but I feel like if we don’t appreciate this talent today, she will never know how awesome she is.
So ladies and gentlemen, I want to introduce to you this amazing soul and our star of the day. Give it up for Mrs Sheila Masons Brown. ” Blake announced and the people present cheered happily.
” What Is doing? I don’t think I can stand before all these people. ” Sheila said, her palm sweating out of nervousness.
” I believe you. ” David said with a smile, squeezing her hand lightly.
His words of encouragement gave Sheila the courage she needed to make her way to the stage.
The people who saw her gasped in surprise. She was such a humble lady and Young. Don’t forget, beautiful too.
Blake passed the mic to Sheila who smiled at him.
When tbe cheers died down, Sheila took a deep breath to calm her nerves.
After introducing herself, she proceeded to introduce the pieces of auction as Blake requested her.
” The first design ” pure heart” was inspired by my adoptive parents. I was not lucky to know my parents. That’s until I met my adoptive parents. They loved me and protected me as if I was their own child. They had the most pure hearts. May their souls rest in peace.” She finished introducing the first item.
” The second design ” longing ” was inspired by me as I thought about my real parents. I long for them in my heart, do they also share the same feeling? I poured all my Love and longing to them, hoping that one day, they’ll find me and take me home.”
” The third design was inspired by love and that’s why it’s named ” forever.” Everybody in this world wishes to find a forever love, I was no exception.
A seal with a vow, a seal with blood and a seal with a ring. That’s why it’s divided into three, enclosed by a heart. ” Sheila finished.
” And I have to tell you all, after rejecting my love for years, she finally found her forever love. Do you want to know who the lucky guy is?” Blake asked and the people cheered.
David stood from his seat and walked to the podium before hugging Sheila.
Meanwhile in country B
Vanessa was pushing her mother-in-law with her wheelchair. She had just finished accompanying her to bask.
It was the third day since they arrived.
Vanessa observed her mother-in-law keep fiddling the necklace she gifted her. It was the same necklace that Sheila presented to her as a gift to her mother-in-law.
” You really love that necklace mom, don’t you? I’ll ask my friend to design another one for you. I’m sure she’ll be happy if she hears that you liked it.” Vanessa spoke while wheeling her mother-in-law inside the house.
” That reminds me, today, our friend will be launching his new designs. I’m sure Sheila will be invited. Why don’t we watch the launching ceremony?” Vanessa asked and the lady nodded.
Vanessa pushed the wheelchair to the siting before pressing on the brakes and went to switch on the TV.
” Darling, why don’t you take your mother to her room?” Gabriel’s father spoke, walking to flop himself on the sofa.
” I will do that after we finish watching the launching ceremony. Mother likes the necklace my friend designed for her so I want her to see the designer.” Vanessa replied and Damian nodded.
” She is pregnant now, do you think David will allow her to attend?” Gabriel spoke from behind.
” Don’t overestimate Sheila’s ability to convince him.” Vanessa replied with a chuckle.
” You are right about that. ” He replied, taking a seat beside his father.
After flicking on the channel, the face of Sheila introducing the first design filled the screen.
” C-char-lene.” It was one word but it shocked all the people in the room especially when it came from the person who has been unable to say a word in almost two decades.
