At country A international airport, the plane landed gracefully.
Sheila and David walked to the waiting Lobby after passing through the check out points. David was dragging a suitcase while sheila clutched her handbag tightly.
At their private waiting lobby, a white Bentley was waiting for them.
When Jordan saw his boss and boss lady approaching, he quickly opened the door for them before taking the suitcase from David’s hands and stuffing of directly to the boot.
He then raced back to the driver’s seat before the engine roared to life.
Looking at the two people at the back passanger seat through the rear mirror, Jordan felt his heart clench painfully.
Just as he thought that finally his president managed to be happy, the little gets sick.
” How’s the situation at the hospital?” David asked.
” Her condition is stable now president.” Jordan replied.
No one said anything until they reached at the hospital. Sheila was the first one to step out of the car.
She did not wait for David or even look back as she raced to the hospital.
David followed behind her with hurried steps.
” Seems like the Young Madam is more worried about the little miss.” Jordan commented observing the situation.
Of course, he knew that David was worried too. Afterall, Lily is his daughter. He has only managed to stay calm but the Young Madam was not as strong as David.
Her emotions were all over the place, she could not conceal them.
Jordan could see that she clearly cared about the little miss.
He followed the duo slowly.
Sheila was the first to spot the VIP ward where Lily was admitted.
She pushed the door slowly with shaky hands not knowing if she really wanted to do that.
When the door opened, the two ladies in the room turned to look at her.
Sheila’s teary eyes met Alicia’s who immediately sprang up to her feet and rushed to Sheila pulling her in a bone crushing hug.
Alicia started to sniffle and soon Sheila joined her too. She slowly pulled away from the hug and walked towards the bed where Lily was laid.
The beeping of the oximeter machine had Sheila’s eyes water immediately.
Looking at the pale looking Lilian, she could not imagine how the little one changed so much in a span of less than two weeks.
The tubes connected to Lily’s body gave Sheila the creeps.
She kneeled beside the bed, clutching Lily’s hand which had nothing connected to it.
Two drips were connected to her body. Sheila did not want to imagine the amount of pain Lily was going through.
Although Lily always behaved like a mature girl, Sheila knew that the girl was afraid of pain the most.
Unable to control herself, Sheila sobbed silently, placing wet kisses on Lily’s hands.
That was the scene that greeted David when he finally catched up with his fleeing wife.
Looking at the two most important women in his life in so much pain, David could not control the ache he felt in his heart.
His daughter was lying in a hospital bed while his wife was hurting seeing their daughter that way.
As a man, he felt useless and helpless since there was nothing he could do to reduce their pain.
Old Madam who had been observing Sheila since she arrived at the hospital wiped the lone tear that escaped her eyes seeing how affected the young lady was despite Lily being her step daughter.
She could not help but thank the heavens for bringing such an amazing woman into Lily and David’s Life.
Looking at the scene, she was even convinced that the young lady before her loved Lily more than how Sandra Loved her own daughter.
Standing up from her seat, she pulled Alicia and David away giving Sheila time to be alone with Lily.
Outside the ward, the three people looked at each other with worried expressions on their faces.
” We have taken out tests but the results came out negative. We can’t be of help.” Old Madam Brown expressed her regret.
When Lily was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with leukaemia, the two had proceeded to have their test done to see whether they qualify to be donors.
Unfortunately, the results came out negative.
” It’s okay, I will head to the laboratory and have myself tested. We are going to save her, don’t worry.” David assured them but deep inside his heart, he was worried.
What if he turns out to be incompatible with his daughter?
” She is my only grandchild, you have to save her no matter what.” The old madam cried.
Lily was the first grandchild of the Brown family, if something happened to her, she did not know if she could survive the pain.
” What are you saying Grandma? Nothing will happen to my niece. She is strong, I know she will survive this.” Alicia replied sniffling her tears.
The three were still talking when the doctor responsible for Lily’s treatment approached them.
” How is my daughter John? David asked.
John was his friend since they were young.
” Her condition is stable for now. She just needs to be under observation but she really needs the surgery as soon as possible.” John replied with a smile but how could David miss the worry masked under the smile?
David figured out that there’s something John didn’t intend to have his grandmother hear.
Turning to Alicia, he Instructed her to take his grandmother home.
Alicia obliged without questioning. She was wise enough to read between the lines.
” Let’s go home grandma. Now that David is here, you can take a rest. You have been staying with Lily for a whole day, you must be tired.” Alicia said and the old lady nodded her head.
” Take care of her and if anything happens, please let me know.” With that, the two ladies walked away with Alicia supporting the old lady.
” You can tell me about it. Nobody will hear.” David said with a straight face.
” What about my sister-in-law?” John asked, looking at the direction of the ward.
David however shook his head, ” She broke down after seeing Lily in that situation, I don’t know what she will do if she hears more bad news.”
How could he bear to let her be in more pain than she already was?
He promised to give her happiness yet now she is hurting seeing Lily lying in that bed.
” I’m not as weak as you think. I just can’t help but feel sad.” Sheila spoke and the two men turned to see the young lady walking towards them with puffy eyes.
David frowned seeing her while John had a worried expression on his face.
” Sister-in-law, are you sure? You look like a mess.” John commented earning a glare from David.
” What? I’m telling the truth here,” John defended himself, making David shake his head.
” You don’t have to torture yourself this much.” John added.
” I’ll be torturing myself if I don’t know what’s wrong with Lily.” Sheila replied stubbornly.
” Alright, follow me.” John said, leading the two of them to his office.
A few minutes later, the three were sitting inside his office. John sat at his working table while David and Sheila sat at the couch opposite him.
” Doctor John, what is wrong with my daughter? Sheila asked naturally, making David look at her with a concealed smile.
No matter the difficulties, he could not be any happier that both he and Lily got such an amazing wife and mother respectively.
” Lily is suffering from blood Cancer.” The doctor answered and for a minute, Sheila thought she was hallucinating or perhaps her ears were playing a prank on her.
” Blood Cancer? You mean Lily has leukaemia?” Sheila asked, just to be sure and doctor John nodded.
” Then what are we waiting for? Let’s have her surgery done.” Sheila spoke but the deflated look on the doctor’s face told her things ain’t as simple as she thinks.
” We also want to have the surgery done but so far, we don’t have a suitable donor for a bone marrow transplant.” The doctor explained.
” What do you mean? There has to be someone out there compatible with Lily.” Sheila said in a panicked voice.
” There has to be someone! Just look carefully. I’ll also go look for a donor.” Sheila said, attempting to stand up but David pulled her into his arms.
” Calm down, you know I won’t let anything happen to her ” David said, his words calming Sheila down.
” Although Lily’s blood type is rare, we will definitely find someone to donate. Rest assured, sister-in-law, we all want Lily to be back on her feet.” Doctor John assured her.
David and Sheila finally left for Lily’s ward.
Looking at his princess, David struggled to keep calm.
