” This is a lot of food we have here, don’t you think?” Sheila inquired looking intently at David after the room service girl left.
” I figured out you’ll be hungry so I ordered a lot.” David answered innocently.
” You want to mean I am a pig and that’s Why you ordered all these dishes.” Sheila said with a scowl on her face, making David surprised. When did he call her a pig? He was just being a considerate boyfriend and just wished to take care of his woman.
” I didn’t say that.” He replied calmly. He couldn’t understand women and their logic.
” You didn’t say that but you meant it with your words.” Sheila said, pouting. She felt aggrieved by his words. David knew that if he didn’t admit to his imaginary mistakes, this conversation was never going to see an end. He pampered her so he could do anything as long as she wasn’t angry and that included taking blame for something he didn’t do.
” Okay, and sorry for calling you a pig, I promise it won’t happen again.” He said plainly and Sheila snorted.
” How insincere.” She snickered and David could only smile. He then moved to her and pulled her to himself before kissing her passionately. The kiss took a little long and Sheila felt suffocated after blanking out the whole time.
” Breath.” David reprimanded her after pulling away. He found her blushing red face adorable. Looking at his mesmerising smile, Sheila felt like a thousand Cupid arrows just pierced her heart and it trembled in joy. His gorgeous smile was intoxicating and stress relieving. She could just sit and watch him smile for a whole day.
” Is my apology sincere now?” David asked with a smirk. He liked it when she was all flustered and embarrassed. He prided himself for making her feel so.
” What an apology? You obviously took advantage of me?” Sheila retorted but she was rejoicing inwardly. She liked the apology. She liked it very much. She thought if this was how he’ll be apologising then she wanted him to wrong her frequently. Sheila had already come to terms that she liked everything about David . She liked his advances, his kisses and how gently he took care of her.
” But you liked it either way.” David said as a matter of fact and Sheila blushed more.
” Who said I liked to?” She retorted as a way to hide her embarrassment.
” You don’t?’ David asked and feigned being hurt. Looking at his defected expression, Sheila admonished herself for lying to him. They were already one so why hide it from him.
” I like it ” she replied shyly, her voice low such that if David wasn’t anticipating her answer, he could have missed it. Sheila dared not raise her head and look at David’s face making the Man chuckle pleasantly.
” Let’s eat.” David said in an attempt to bring back the cheerful atmosphere from earlier and a growl from Sheila’s stomach seconded his words. Sheila could not believe how embarrassing her stomach treated her. it was already enough that David was teasing her making her face burn, did her stomach need to be in cahoots with him too and continue embarrassing her? She felt wronged.
Putting aside those thoughts, she turned her concentration to the feast In Front of her. On the table lay Chinese cuisine, Italian cuisine and of course her favourite African cuisine. Looking at the thick millet porridge cooked with milk, she salivated. The presence of yellow sweet potatoes made her appetite bigger. God! She missed these. One could wonder where she got the weird taste for African food, her adoptive parents weren’t not pure blood white or atleast her mother wasn’t. She was half white, half African. She would cook for her things that she never knew about. One day, her mother bought rice but the end result was something Brown in colour with a pleasant smell, not to talk about the taste. It was the most delicious dish Sheila ever had in her life. Upon asking her mother, she proudly said it was Swahili pilau, commonly prepared in the Coast of east Africa.
Minutes later, Sheila rubbed her round stomach. It felt stuffed. She had devoured almost three quarters of the food on the table. She raised her eyes and was met with David’s Black orbs looking at her gently. It felt like he was telling her that she could eat as much as possible and he would still love her the same. Thinking of her earlier accusation of saying that she was called a pig, Sheila suddenly thought that she really turned out to be a pig.
The couple left the hotel and headed where David insisted that it was a surprise. After what happened last night, David had come to a conclusion that he needed to speed his plan and that’s what he was doing now. After he made sure Sheila was asleep, he slipped and called his personal assistant to hasten the plan. He had already received a text message that everything was ready and here he was, driving them to their destination. After today, Sheila will no longer be a girlfriend. She will climb the lad to something else.
DAVOON HOTEL
David and Sheila drove in to the hotel. Seeing the magnificent gate with the words engraved on it made Sheila’s heart beat with excitement. She has always dreamt of having a vacation in this very hotel but knew that it would remain a dream for her. This was the most expensive hotel in the whole of country A. It was more of a hotel, One could call it a vacation home. She had only seen the interior of the hotel in magazines and could not help marvel at the beauty of it. It was located near the beach and had an animal zoo in within. Everything could be found in this hotel. Rumour had it that it was built as a gift to the Fernandez family Princess for her birthday but something happened to the family and the little girl vanished and was never found again. It was also said that the family was not from country A but from the neighbouring country B.
Her parents were devastated that the mother ended up bedridden. The loss of their princess dealt a blow to her and since that day, she never talked again. Twenty years of torture and longing, not knowing whether your child was dead or alive. Sheila could only pity the poor lady and wished from the bottom of her heart that they find their daughter soon. It was painful living without knowing where your family was, she was a victim. Sometimes, she sits down and wonders why she was abandoned. Was it separation or did her parents not want her at all. Was there someone looking for her somehow or was she even thinking about her. Sheila was thankful that her adopted parents took her in. She had been roaming the streets for as long as she could remember. That happened after the orphanage she had been staying at was closed leaving her and the other orphans homeless.
Thinking about her life then and now, she could only thank God for bringing people in her life who became a blessing to her. First it was her adopted parents who treated her like she was their own daughter and then David, who despite the social difference between them, never for once made her feel worthless, maybe insecure at times but that was all it was to it. He gave her a family she always dreamt of having. He even gave her the privilege to be a mother to his daughter Lily. She turned to look at him and could only smile. He was her life.
” Why are you looking at me with a smile?” David asked to park the car safely before turning to look at her. He could see the emotions swirling in her hazel orbs. Her eyes were unfathomable and bottomless like an abyss. He couldn’t decipher what she was thinking at that particular moment.
” I was thinking and counting my blessings.” Sheila said with a smile.
” Oh really? And how Many blessings did you count?” David asked, his tone relaxed.
” Many. I was thinking about what would be of me if my parents never adopted me. Where would I be if you didn’t not find me and shelter me. Maybe I would be back to roaming the streets, homeless.” Sheila said seriously and David could feel his heart constrict in pain. His woman suffered a lot in the past but it was alright. He will use his heart and time to make up for all the grievances she suffered. He would treasure her and treat her like the queen she was.
” Have you ever thought of finding your parents, your biological family?” He found himself asking and a trace of sadness flashed in her eyes.
” Honestly, no. I often think about them, think why they abandoned me but that’s it. I have been in the orphanage for as long as I can remember before I was adopted. I was told that I was taken in at the age of three months or so.” Sheila said, sadness lacing her every word. It’s not like she didn’t want to seek her family but she didn’t have the power or resources to do that and even if she did, there was not even a single clue of her roots so how was she going to find her family in this big world. She was always a factual person and knew that it was close to impossible to find her family.
” How about I help you look for your family, that is if you want?” David asked cautiously.
” No need. I no longer need them just like they don’t need me. I have you now and lily. You two are my family now.” Sheila replied with certainty. She didn’t want to start a fruitless search. Looking for her family was akin to searching a needle in a pile of hay, it was impossible.
David was pleased to hear her words. He was glad that she considered him and Lily hee family. But at the same time, he knew she said that to avoid disappointment. She didn’t want to have her hopes up only to be crushed later, he understood her but finding her family was also important. He decided to keep this matter aside and concentrate on the task at hand. They would revisit that issue later, for now, he will concentrate on making her his fiancee and later be his wife.
” Come, let’s go in.” They were still seated in the car in the parking lot.
” Why are we here?” Sheila’s curious stomach couldn’t keep the question at bay any longer.
” It’s a surprise!” David said grinning mischievously but he was sweating inwardly with nervousness. He never did this before and he was anxious to see her reaction. His performance today will determine if he still retains the title of the eligible bachelor in town.
