“Do I really have to go? I have never been to such a big event. I’m afraid I’ll embarrass you in front of your business partners.” Sheila whined.
She was all dressed up in a red evening gown, ready to attend a charity gala.
This was the first time she would be attending such a grand event.
” All you have to do is follow my lead. I just want you to accompany me tonight.” David murmured into her ears, biting her earlobe eliciting a moan from her.
Forty minutes later, the couple arrived at the intercontinental hotel which served as the venue for the charity gala.
Today, David drove them to the hotel.
After stopping the car and helping Sheila out, a valet picked the car keys before driving to park the car.
” Your friend will be here tonight.” David announced.
” That’s great. At Least I won’t feel out if place.” Sheila said with a smile.
Ever since Vanessa reunited with her boyfriend, the two girls rarely spend time together anymore.
It would be great to bond with each other at this party while the men do their things.
After showing their invitation cards, the two lovebirds made their way to the Hall.
The room was already packed with people.
The elites from high society dressed in designer suits and evening gowns were interacting with each other.
Usually, David never bothers to attend such events. He would rather donate and keep his name anonymous but today, he had another reason for coming here.
There was going to be an auction after the gala and he had come here to buy the ” heart of the seas” ring.
That’s why he invited Gabriel to bid on his behalf. Since the proposal was meant to be a surprise, of course he was not going to be the one to make the purchase.
The ring is rumoured to have been given by the king to the first queen of country A.
He was planning to propose to his little woman. Everything was already arranged for the proposal which would happen in a month’s time.
His assistant Jordan has been doing everything to perfect that event.
David was never one to do proposal stuff.
When he got engaged to Sandra, they had arranged for an official engagement ceremony which was attended by close friends and business associates.
They exchanged rings and that was all but now, he wanted to do things differently.
In the past, it didn’t matter to him but now, he wanted to make his little woman happy. He wanted to prove to her that he can make her happy.
That’s why he had asked Gabriel to help him come up with a good plan for proposal.
Over the days, their relationship grew close. They became more than business partners.
Growing up, he never had the chance to make friends. He was the future leader of the Brown family and CEO of Brown Corp, he had to mature up faster than normal children.
When he took over the family business, he had to choose who to interact with or who not to. He kept his guard up, protecting the company from enemies and at the same time working to expand the company.
Being with Gabriel makes him feel relaxed because the man had proved to be worthy of his trust.
” Maybe I should just go back.” Sheila said, tugging David’s shirt.
She had expected to meet a lot of people tonight but what she was seeing was beyond her expectation.
Everybody was dressed to kill and it did not help that all eyes turned to look at her the moment they stepped foot in the hall.
” Just relax.” David advised.
After accompanying David for some time, Sheila excused herself before walking to pick a glass of wine.
She was about to take a sip when the glass was snatched from her.
” No alcohol tonight!” David sternly warned before giving her a glass of juice.
” But why?” Sheila whined.
The whole gala was as boring as shit without anybody to talk to. She had hoped that the alcohol would keep her company.
” No drinking, just that.” David didn’t want to deal with a drunk sheila. The last time he got her drunk, she Made him take a cold shower in the middle of the night.
He was not ready for that torture, atleast not in the middle of the party.
Just when Sheila was about to complain, she caught sight of Vanessa approaching them, her hand linked with Gabriel’s.
She had a bright smile plastered on her face.
Vanessa was wearing a deep blue velvet dress matched with Blue heels. A silver necklace adnoured her elegant neck.
” You didn’t tell me you’ll be attending. I would not have made a fuss!” Vanessa complained the moment she got to where Sheila stood before pulling her into a tight hug.
” I found out about it this morning myself.” Sheila replied.
It was not until this morning that David gave her a gown, informing her that she would be attending a charity gala with him.
She didn’t want to but at the end of the day she could not say no.
” Made a fuss? Are you sure you weren’t excited tagging along?” Gabriel who had just finished greeting David said with a snort.
” Since you know about it, must you expose me in front of others?” Vanessa complained with a pout making sheila to smile.
” I have to let Sister Sheila know how jealous my girlfriend really is.” Gabriel replied with a smile.
When he announced that he would be attending a gala, Vanessa’s mood instantly turned sour.
Living with her for a month, he had come to get used to how jealous and insecure his woman really is.
Not like he is complaining, if anything, that makes him happy because he’s sure that she loves him.
Where there is jealousy, there’s always love. That’s what his father would always tell him.
” Yes, I am a jealous and possessive girlfriend, do you have a problem with that?” Vanessa challenged.
Sheila giggled, covering her mouth. She always knew that her friend was an outspoken person. She didn’t expect any less from Vanessa.
” Of Course not. How can I have a problem with that? In Fact, I think you are adorable when you get all possessive.” Gabriel outrightly declared making Vanessa grin.
” That’s my man!” She stated proudly, pecking on his lips.
David, who was quietly observing the interaction between his friend and his girlfriend, could not help but wonder if that’s how a couple should act.
He secretly stole a glance at his little woman and saw how she was smiling brightly watching their interaction.
He could not help but feel sorry for her. He is not an expressive person, won’t she at some time get bored with him and leave him?
The thought was enough to make his saliva taste bitter.
He walked to her and pulled her in his arms.
Sheila smiled at his gesture.
The four people chatted for a while before business men approached David and Gabriel.
” It’s an honour to have president Brown attend this charity event.” A man in his late fifties said with a smile before toasting to David.
” It’s good to interact with others from time to time.” David curtly replied.
The man before them was Peter Smith. The Smith family was the hosts of the charity event. The hotel was also one among the many under the Smith family.
The Smith family was involved with hotel chains.
Every year, the Smith family would organise a gala and invite all the elites in the society.
The gala would target to raise funds to support children in orphanages.
“Mr Fernandez, it’s a pleasure to have you join us this year.” Mr Peter Smith said, shaking hands with Gabriel.
” The pleasure is mine Mr Smith.” Gabriel replied. As a businessman, he was always keen on creating good relationships with other businesses.
The men later left to socialise with other business men.
Although David was reluctant at first, Sheila managed to convince him.
” That boyfriend of yours really likes sticking to you like a piece of gun huh?” Vanessa commented.
” Just like you like sticking to your boyfriend like a tick.” Sheila shot back.
Just when Vanessa was about to retort, a voice interrupted her.
” Look who we have here!” The voice was dripping with sarcasm and unconcealed hate.
Turning to look at the source despite having an inkling to whom he belonged to, Sheila came face to Face with Laura who was wearing the exact same design as hers.
” What is a cockroach like you doing here in the midst of phoenixes?”
