Alex’s POV
“Dad. Hold on. I heard something. I swear.” Jack suddenly stops as are already at the verge of the forest, about to leave.
“Don’t be so delusional. Your brother isn’t around.” Even the hopeful Amanda says this.
“It isn’t about being delusional. I am sure he is close to us. I can’t hear his mind but I can hear shrills. He might be the ones.” He says as an earsplitting scream suddenly invaded the atmosphere as Amanda shakes terribly, Jake clutching out of her grip as a result.
“Those are demons, Alex. We almost met them in the Cursed Alpha King’s pack. Are they after us now?” Amanda inquires.
I slowly tilt my head as I respond, “if they are after us, I guess it’s high time we got out of here then.”
“Don’t talk like that,” Jack rebuffs, “my brother was the one who let out a shrill.”
“It can’t be Jake. Those are demons. I recognize their type of shrills but somehow, I agree with Jack. Let’s go confirm our doubts?” Amanda suggests as I roll my eyes at her.
“You have a silver wolf in built yet you couldn’t take down a magician, someone casting ordinary spells. Yet, you want to go face demons. Is that wise?” I ask, as I fold my arms across my chest.
“It is wise. If you’re not in, Jack, come on.” She says as Jake begins to follow her and soon, they start to get out of sight. I can’t leave them at this point to return to my pack. What if something bad happens to Jack or both of them? I’ll be blamed.
I have to take responsibility for this. I hurry towards where they are with the energy of my wolf and when they look back, I quickly alert them about a figure lurking around them.
“That’s the demon. The first demon. He’s very stubborn.” Amanda comments as she instructs Jack to be with me. I also stay grounded to ensure no attack is suddenly lunged at me.
“Amanda, if you can’t fight them off, let’s leave them alone. They’re useless!” Jack screams.
I shush him as a demon shows up. Jack releases himself from my grip suddenly as he stands in front of the demon, rolling his eyes at it. It looks like hs is trying to study the demon. Perhaps he’s read about demons or prayed to meet one of them someday.
“Dad. This demon has tampered with Jake.” He suddenly notifies me. I roll my eyes at him as Amanda quickly carries him to her arms, trying to flee from the demon. I knew she isn’t going to have enough strength to fight it, yet she endeared it to approach.
“What?! Leave me alone!” Jack screams as Amanda tries to drag him to me so I can handle him better but he seems so obstinate that he dress himself again.
I suddenly rush behind him as I carry him and we begin to run away from the demon. I release him from my gripz instructing him sternly to follow Amanda as she ran, as I turn back to face the demons. I point my fingers at it though I don’t know what that signifies but I’ve seen such moves in a movie. I’ve read it in books.
The demon aggressively lunges an attack at me as I evade his claws, clutching onto a tree and climbing it up before it catches up with me. I can see Amanda and Jack running and panting heavily, right from where I am, on the tree. I can also see the demon below as he tries to crush the tree from below by digging its claws there. As I try to jump to another tree before the tree falls, a legion of demons starts to approach as I fret and jump down without considering the consequences. I begin to run for my life as the pace between the demons chasing me and I aren’t enough to shift into my wolf. I think they did that on purpose anyway.
“DAD!!!” I hear a fading scream as I slowly look back. It isn’t the direction Jack followed. That definitely must be Jake’s voice. I don’t believe until I look back again, wary of the demons, as I see Jake being lifted on their heads. Are they running after me so as to release Jake?
No, I don’t think so. It might be a trap to get me. If it’s so, why did the first demon lunge an attack at me. I don’t respond to the scream I heard and as I keep running forward, I hear it again.
“DAD! PLEASE HELP ME!” He screams as I suddenly climb a tree, confusing the demons. They wander forwards and backwards before they realize I’m on top of the trees. I start jumping from a tree to another till I reach where a demon is. The demon is the one carrying Jake on its head. I can see my son now. His lips look pale and he looks so tired and his hair unkempt.
I extend my hands from the tree as the demon hasn’t noticed I am above it. He extends his hands as well as we try to connect so I’ll pull him up. As our fingers connect, the other demons notify the demon lifting him as it runs off from where I am. I angrily jump down from the tree as I utilize the space between us to shift into my wolf.
I stand tall and strong amongst them as I swirl my tail in air, in a view to attack all of them. I growl intensely, threatening them to release him before I do what’s on my mind.
But they are obstinate and I’ll teach them a lesson. I rush at them as they disperse to different directions. My wolf’s eyes glisten intensely as I detect the direction the specific demon headed towards. I run after it and he drops Jake to the ground with full force as it runs off. I hunch Jake to my back forcefully as I speed after it.
As I reach a deadend, they begin to rush back at a hole and I can smell the odor arising from dead bodies there. I instruct my wolf to keep the scent of this location so I can track it down when next I want to explore this place.
